By vigorously applying consequence for stupid decisions from day one. Commit a stupid penalty, you’re off the field for at least a series. Commit a backbreaking fumble, on the bench. Miss tackles, lazy angles, whatever… apply consequence. That way every player that walks on the field knows where the fuck they are and are playing smart at their highest effort every play. The first thought in Williams mind walking out as the returner should have been field awareness. The very first thought of a well coached player is awareness of the situation because the coaches instill it and demand it.
Right, but if the player just isn't good... they so stupid things. I can't pick up a guitar and play Zeppelin solos just because my guitar teacher is telling me every day what I need to do or else I'll fail.
Then it’s next man up. All the more reason to show that BS won’t be tolerated, you have plenty of disposable players that you don’t have to worry about losing at the end of the season. The trash can take itself out at that point.
We could have drafted a CB to fill the gaping hole but didn't. We focused on offense which improved at the detriment of the defense. Also Saleh and duct tape got more production out of the same players.
Well we DID draft a CB I think in the 3rd round…the feedback was that he was a bit slow But at this point, put him in and see if he can do better…what the fuck is there to lose?
Yeah, I’ve been thinking about some version of this as well…you can’t pull out an OL if he commits a holding call here or there, or a CB if he gets flagged for PI, so it’s not always cut and dried, but if you fumble? Shit yeah…go sit on the bench for a quarter and think about what you did. As to the KR, I’d have cut his worthless ass just like we did Gipson. Next man up is easy in that case. But this dude not only fumbled but then fair caught a punt on our own 2? Time to go see about a new team. No, you can’t cut or bench everyone, but for guys who are more consistently dumb or overly penalty prone, you can bench them for a series, for a quarter, for a game, depending on who they are and who the next man up would be. Gotta do something to get the message across
Comon...next man up really... these players are bad and not smart it shows. If they are 1st stringers, your going to puy in their back-up? Glad your not coaching this team... Just accept the fact that their players blow and as others have stated, they get told what they should be doing but do not have the capacity to execute it. I am as disgusted as you and others, how do you think Glenn feels watching these fools?
I do accept that they suck. I don’t accept that they don’t understand football. Bullshit. That’s coaching.
so Isaiah Williams has been a practice squad player for a majority of his career because of coaching?
No, I’m saying that while a player may not physically live up to being an NFL player, the mental aspect is non-negotiable. If they’re physically AND mentally unable to compete then why the fuck are they here? There are plenty of physically unqualified college players that can at least figure out how not to play stupidly. And also honestly, fuck Williams. Why are we discussing this. We drafted a kid 2 rounds before he was projected to go because he runs really fast, and that fucker hasn’t even seen the field. Is it really Isaiah Williams that’s too stupid for football or is it this dumbass leadership that puts him out there? How stupid is Arian Smith that he runs a 4.2 but we think Williams is a better option mentally? Would Smith run backwards? There’s not much more stupid than fair catching at the 2 yard line, so tell me how stupid is Arian Smith, because we know he’s at least physically capable. How stupid is Arian Smith that rather than using him we put a slow lumbering Braelon Allen out instead and end up getting him injured and losing our #2 RB? Bullshit, there’s no excuse. This coaching staff has shown that it has no culture of change whatsoever.
Really, then why do they continue to make the same mental mistakes... coaching can only go so far my friend if you DONOT have the horses to pull the wagin. IMHO, the players inability to harness their cognative abilities, emotions and understanding of their job are the primary reasons they continue to F up...
Even on the offense, +14 is not a wash, given a small sample size, it's 18% more than last year. Like you said though, it's very clear defense is the main problem along with penalties and TOs. The scoring defense is almost 100% worse from Saleh coaching nearly identical roster. So far, to me the biggest issue is that AG has been a pretty big downgrade from even Saleh. Woody was supposed to hire an upgrade, and somehow found someone who so far looks a lot worse. Even worse that Ulbrich actually.
And why is that a surprise? Woody ALWAYS makes the wrong decision. ALWAYS. You can take THAT to the bank
It's not a surprise at all. Remember how we discussed wanting to see a few offensive guys for the interview, and the best offensive guy Woody talked to was Slovik, who was fired by the Texans as an OC? I recall specifically mentioning to bring in Liam Coen. Not to hire necessarily but at least to talk. Hell no. Well, Liam seems to be doing pretty well with the Jags so far. And Jags were late to the game, he could have hired Coen if we wanted. But he didn't even take a look.
Because the coaches are not minding the details and holding them accountable! You’re telling me the player is too stupid and incompetent to know the game of football? People get complacent when the opportunity to become complacent presents itself. This team is complacent, because the atmosphere is complacent.
Exactly I also wanted to at least make a damn call to Ben Johnson…yes I know he was pretty clear on Chicago with Caleb there, but why not make a call? What the fuck do you have to lose? The only thing to lose is Woody’s fucking pride when Johnson says thanks but no thanks. That’s it. I also would have loved to bring McCarthy back and maybe eat crow and say sorry we fucked up on passing you over last time but we learned from that and would love to talk with you. Again, what do you have to lose? Nothing but Woody’s fucking pride when McCarthy likely says yeah go fuck yourself. Why not interview Josh McCown who was a QB and is now QB Coach under O’Connell? Sure a bit raw and inexperienced for an HC job still, but would he be worth talking to? I don’t know…but what can it hurt? Just the way Woody makes these decisions … he is a fucking idiot and based on historical fucking fact, he will ALWAYS make the wrong call.
