Miami didn't rest their starters, but they were playing intentionally soft coverage for much of the 4th quarter. Someone above mentioned that Fields had 66 yards passing at the beginning of the 4th quarter. I don't know if that's exactly right, but if it's remotely accurate then it still illustrates the point.
This just does not add up. How does broken offense gain 400+ yards? And robbed of 30 more and a TD? As I said before, offense was fine when they could finally pick up the blitz in the second half. And even in the 1st they should have had an extra FG and a TD when Allen fumbled. Fields stats say he was good, because he was good. Unfortunately stupid TO by Allen, refs, and stupidity of AG wouldn't allow for 30+ points that this offense should have earned today.
There is no question from my observations that the bold was the primary cause, I would add as secondary bogus officiating. But still JF was not impressive at all with the passing game particularly first half, he is just to indecisive on reads from my eye ball view of the game.
At no point have I brought up Fields’ stats on paper or otherwise. I don’t think he was particularly good. I’m simply expressing that QB play was not the problem tonight. There’s quite a bit one can point to (i.e., penalties, turnovers, defense, special teams, refs, play calling, WRs…etc.) before you get to QB play.
You know what I was wrong. I take it back. Fields didn’t have 66 passing yards entering the fourth. He had 65 1Q - 5 yards 2Q - 49 yards 3Q - 11 yards total - 65 yards 4Q - 144 yards I’m sure that’s totally coincidental…….
Seriously!! If you don’t watch the game and just look at the stat line Fields looks fucking great. But if you watch the game, he wasn’t as good as the numbers would suggest. It’s not just him that cost us the game, we had plenty of stupid penalties and bad fumbles and our D doesn’t know how to tackle or cover receivers, but for sure Fields was not the answer and was a big part of the problem The 4th quarter defense from Miami was for sure different and they did let up which let Fields rack up yards taking the underneath throws which helped the stat line
It was the same thing with Zach Wilson. His “good” plays were always on broken plays. Fields is the same. that’s the sign of a bad QB. You can’t gameplan for broken plays
Fields had a big running play in the 3d too. And yes, in the 4th they did take shackles off of Fields, he got into a good rhythm and yes, last I checked 4th quarter does count.
That broken play was a horrendous play call that Fields turned to a 50 yard TD run. Like that play, the play calling was worse than the QB play. Still it was enough to get win on the road the game if not for all the other shit.
I am not saying he was great, but it wasn't a bad performance from the QB. This is not a BS. I really don't think he was a problem. We should have scored a lot more points too.
There have been and probably will be plenty of losses to lay at Fields’ feet. I just don’t see tonight as one of them. If the “shackles” were off earlier in the game maybe I would join in but way too many other glaring problems tonight for me to entertain that narrative.
The “taking the shackles off” line was so disingenuous that I almost thought you were being sarcastic.
Two TDs is typically not garbage time yet. If we had another min, we could have had a drive in the end. Teams normally don't take a foot off the gas pedal at that point.
This is a bit stupid. The guy was told to throw in the 4th after run heavy all game and he actually delivered, and you still shit on him. That's disingenuous.
The guy was told to throw and he delivered when the defense stopped blitzing and dropped 7 guys into coverage at the first down marker. You can keep trying to sell this garbage but don’t be shocked when everyone smells it and laughs.
