Fields was definitely one of the huge reasons for the loss. Plus the defense, it's just so bad both games this year. Looking to Sunday though, the Bucks are not this SB contender that cannot be touched. Yes, they won both games by total of 4 points, but should be able to hang with them until the end and hopefully get an opportunity to pull this off. With Tyrod we have a solid QB with fairly high floor. It's not like with Fields where we just saw one game is the best any Jets QB had in last several years, and then immediately followed up by the worst (perhaps aside from Rodgers performance against the Bills last year). and we don't really know what to expect next. If the defense steps up finally, it should be a close game.
If the defense steps up, then sure we have a shot. But so far the defense has not shown the ability to step up AT ALL. I’m curious to see what the offense looks like with Tyrod compared to Fields…I’m thinking back to all those times when we had Zach and then the backup would come in and the offense ALWAYS looked better…whether it was Flacco, White, Taylor himself, Josh Johnson…didn’t matter who the backup was the offense just worked better. That’s how bad Zach was. So I wonder if this will be the same now…Fields has many of the same issues Zach has…inaccurate as fuck, slow to process, doesn’t read the field, etc. Will be interesting to see if Tyrod makes a big difference again…he’s a better QB so it’s possible, but he is also not a real running threat so the defense will play us differently. In any case, if we lose this week, and then lose to the damn fish (which is very possible considering we would have to try and cover Hill, Waddle, and Gesecki) then the season is already over 4 games in…
That's a good question. Tyrod is made of glass. I'm not sure he makes it through the whole game either.
The thing is, Fields only played two games, and one of them was fantastic. Let's not forget that. Last game wasn't the only sample we have. For Zach it wasn't every other game that was great. He would have maybe 1-2 good ones all year. With Fields I still want to see more sample size here before saying I want a back-up to play over him. Maybe the guy that played in the 1st game shows up a lot more than the second. I don't think Tyrod can play as good as Fields did in game 1, but he will certainly be better than Fields in game 2. Tyrod has a high floor, and he is a good QB. We can win if Glenn can fix the defense. Like you I am not sure he can do it, but it is not out of realm of possibility. Both Wilks and AG had top 10 defenses before. Wilks had a defense worse than #20 only once in his career (#26 with Arizona), and he had #11 with Carolina and #3 overall with SF just two years ago. They should be able to find a way to eventually put averagish defense out there, not bottom 3. Whether it will happen this Sunday though is a big question mark.
You and I see eye to eye on lots (most?) things…but in this case you are far more optimistic than I am on both Fields and AG. I hear you say Fields has only played two games with us and one was good and one was terrible, but I’m not ignoring the 3 years of Fields being way more terrible than good. I am not basing my opinion on two games, but his whole career, as short as it is so far. And with Glenn, it’s not that I have an issue with him personally, it’s more that I just wanted an experienced offensive guy instead of yet another rookie DC, that’s all. Look, I hope you are right and I am wrong on both Fields and AG, but I just don’t see it yet.
I think we see it exactly the same way on AG, I do not even see any disagreement. I wanted an offensive guy too, though he didn't have to be experienced, but he could have been. Hence AG was not my top choice at all, plus on top of being a defensive guy, his defenses were 23d or worse for 3 out of 4 years as a DC, and only last year he finished 7th and then imploded in the play-offs. After two games, frankly I am very disappointed in AG, particularly with the defense plus some other things. So, it's not that I am optimistic on AG, it's more like I think it is still a little too early to conclude he will fail. Like we both said though, unless something changes quick, the season could be over in Sept, which to me is not the outcome that predicts high probability of Glenn being a success a here. On Fields, yes, I get your point about the years prior, but I saw young QBs like Baker and Sam change the narrative after a few years, and I don't know if Fields will do it this year or not, but similarly I am not yet ready to say conclusively that he won't after just two games with us, one of which was his career best, even if the other was career worst. Need to see more there too.
Just saw that the Bucs lost another OL in Mauch for the year…they are now down 3 starters on OL for our game, and just signed Dan Feeney… So if Wilks and AG don’t have a good plan to let our DL loose against an OL missing 3 starters, then they are shit
you don't see that he is not already? really? misses a wide open GW then fumbles on 1st and 10. ffs bart Scott leonhard and Jones. I thought, not flashy, just players players. rex fucking Ryan. but they paired it with... sanchez
dont need to be just need to have someone with an eye for talent spot it. russ, big Ben, Montana, marfino, moon, fouts.... patrick fucking mahomes. Josh Fucking Allen.
thats the green kool-aid talking there. good god almighty. I forget some people are younger and less scarred for life than me.
"I may be in the minority here. I much prefer to watch the game from the 300s." best seats I everf had were Jets Bills at Rich Stadium in 1990.... the game where Jamie Mueller caught the winning Td in the last few seconds... actually p[robbalhy the most entertaining game I ever went to they were on about the 10 yd line ...sorta like LOGE section woulda been at Shea I think... not upper deck not lower..in between. yes?
Hard to believe it’s Tyrod Taylor vs Baker Mayfield remember that weird game where we crushed Tyrod and Mayfield came in and lead a stupid comeback to beat us? was Bowles our coach in that game?
Yep. It was week 2, Thursday night game in Cleveland. I was in attendance. Jets jumped out 14-0 on 2 td runs from Isaiah Crowell. If you recall, he wiped his ass with the ball and threw it in the stands (Bowles benches him, but he scores Dude Wipe sponsorship) Browns next offensive possession, mid second quarter Taylor gets hurt on a sack, Baker comes in and marches up and down the feild. You can feel the momentum change instantly with Baker under center. Jets act like they forget what defense is. Browns first win in over a year. Budlight had this lame promotion where every Cleveland fan would get a beer once the Browns won. Pandemonium insued. I nearly got into 3 fights trying to leave the stadium. Ugh. Thanks for reminding me
I remember that game And all I can say is when people talk about stuff like “it’s in their DNA”, you know, like good defense is in the Steelers DNA, or stuff like that, it sure feels like stupid mistakes and folding as soon as something bad happens is in the Jets’ DNA
