Someone please explain to me how touchdowns and interceptions for each season occur in tenths, not whole numbers.
Because he didn’t play 17 games, it’s a calculation based on the average output of the games he did participate in
With Taylor down for a while the team will be looking at quarterbacks with some game experience just in case. After the cutdown day there will be some out there.
It might be more like a live arm for practice reps unless Taylor is more than a couple f weeks out. Martinez next man .
Martinez even looks better than Fields. I don’t just mean in the preseason games, most of the highlight throws from camp are Martinez NOT Fields. In the Giants preseason game he threw like year one Zach Wilson. He doesn’t even appear to have chemistry with Wilson, which was supposed to be a selling point. I don’t think I take a full season of this.
Every time I watch this Tyson Bagent play for the Bears he looks great. I wish we could swing a trade and if nothing else put some pressure on Fields
I think starting Martinez with the 1's would send Fields a direct message loud and clear. They're coddling him and that has to stop. Either he learns how to play in this system or we're out $40M.
I think we are out $30M at worse not $40M. If things were really bad enough to release him after the season he’d only get the guaranteed portion but I also don’t think Martinez is the guy either, I hope they push him with a pickup
Whew! Forgot only the first year is guaranteed.. Dodged a bullet! I'm not at all sure this regime would be willing to cut bait with Fields after only one year no matter how bad he plays or how bad the record is. Now the only way to find out if Martinez can be functional at this level is to play him with the starters and find out. Its not like we're competing for the VLT this year anyway. If Martinez or Cook can't handle it? Draft another QB in '26 and move on. Can't waste time trying to avoid admitting a mistake. That would be an even bigger mistake than signing Fields in the first place.
Well to be honest, I think that all along the plan has been to roll with Fields for this year to see if he can be serviceable in this system and then knowing most likely we are drafting a QB next year. They can’t really come out and say that, but the contract is guaranteed for this year but only half is guaranteed for next year, so that kind of shows. They needed to guarantee something next year because Pitt didn’t so that was enough to get him to come on board. I think this year is about installing AG’s culture, finishing the OL build, running the ball, bringing the D, and setting up the team to be more successful next year with a rookie QB to develop. Maybe Fields can show he can at least hold the fort next year to start the season and then we bring in the rookie. I think that’s the plan if we read between the lines…
Does anyone believe Glenn will have time to "change the culture" and is getting a 2nd year if the team goes 4-13, which appears very likely? We're not going to be patient, and will demand change halfway through the season. Fields is getting benched, then we will keep the QB carousel going as we play out the string. Martinez, Taylor, White, hell - bring back Flacco! New coach next year. Then we draft a QB early in round 1 and turn him into a head case. We are the Jets people - THIS is our culture!
Of course they’ll be back. We can go 0-17 and they’ll be back. It’s one if the expected likely outcomes, these guys aren’t stupid. They signed Fields because with Fields there’s a chance a spark happens, vs a guy like Winston who’s clearly better but also clearly at his peak of what to expect. Guys like Winston give us a year of mediocrity and put us right back into “what now” mode the following year because we’ll be middle of the pack in the draft where it’s hard to find a QB. Fields does one of two things- realizes his potential, or continues playing as poorly as he has. If he realizes his potential then we have our QB (very unlikely), if he doesn’t we’ll be in good position to draft a guy next year in what is shaping to be a good crop. What I suggest focusing on this season is not wins and losses, but whether or not the coaching staff can manage a game and whether or not the young guys are improving. That will give you a glimpse of whether our next 5 years will be productive or just another half decade of waste to pile on the past 4 regime’s waste.
Glenn is the credible face of the franchise. They’d fire Mougey and trade every single player before they fire Glenn (fortunately I don’t think they’d have to do that) we’ve been a rudderless ship for so long, we finally have a legitimate leader here
Agreed…this team is not going to win many games as currently built, let alone end up with a winning record…I see something like 4-6 wins … that would be my prediction today…we have a hard start to the season, and we have a bottom 10 QB, we have crap at receiver outside of one guy, and we have a weakness at edge rusher unless JJ comes back and looks like what he was before the Achilles. Hard to see us putting up enough points just by running the ball, and if we are in situations where we need Fields to pass a lot to catch up, forget it. That fucking bad throw that was a bit behind GW on a slant where that throw needed to lead GW by a yard to get a first down just says it all. He’s inaccurate. Brady or Mahomes make that throw 10 out of 10 times. Period. So yeah, this is about AG getting his legs under him as an HC, running the team, cutting down on penalties, establishing a tough mindset, etc. There will be more losses than wins. My issue is that I am just SO sick and tired of going into every year knowing we will suck and have no chance for the playoffs and just playing out for draft position. And that is exactly how I feel now. Only two preseason games but what I’m reacting to is that Fields just looks the same as he’s always looked…mediocre to bad QB, great runner…our WR and DL groups are weak. I just don’t see us being very competitive this year. And I’m not getting any younger.
