Round 1) our own pick 7 Armand Membou OT/G Missouri 6-4 332. Guy is flying up draft charts. Posted combine numbers that only two offensive linemen had in the past: Tristan Wirfs and Trent Williams. Membou was tremendous with a 4.91 40, a 1.74 10-yard split, a 34-inch vertical AND 31 bench. I envision him playing RT next to AVT. And then if we don’t resign AVT, - we have flexibility to move Membou inside to G or keep him at RT. Might be worth it at 7 overall. I see Dion Dawkins similarity. Round 2) our own pick 42 Elic Ayomanor WR Stanford 6-2 206 Posted 2 solid yrs at Stanford & then great #s at the combine 4.44 40. In addition to O-line protection for Fields, - we need another WR (I can’t believe Lazard is still on the roster). Highlight reel catch in 2023 vs Colorado & their star Travis Hunter. I might regret passing up on Darius Alexander DT from Toledo ---- time will tell. Round 3) #74. our own pick was sent to Las Vegas for Davante Adams. What garbage. Round 3) Detroit’s pick 92 CJ West DT Indiana 6-2 317 Posted some great measurements despite weighing in at 316 pounds. He was able to break the five-second mark with a 4.95. He also had a 1.73 10-yard split. He was able to record a 33-inch vertical as well. Would be a BIG help next to Quinnen Williams. Round 4) our own pick 109 Danny Stutsman ILB Oklahoma 6-3 240. Would be excellent value pick here. Reminds me of the Steelers grabbing Payton Wilson NC State at 98 2024 draft & then watch him ball out for Pittsburgh. Stutsman is a tackling machine. Perfect 4th round pick – but will likely go earlier (3/16/2025). Sherwood is signed longer term but could be Quincy William’s last year. Round 5) our own pick 145 Kyle McCord QB Syracuse 6-3 220 Why not? So desperate to get anything going at QB. NJ native. Maybe he turns into a Gardner Minshew. I think this guy could turn into a very serviceable pro. Couldn’t be worse than spending the #2 overall pick on Zach Wilson. Did well at Ohio State in 2023 but then really lit it up 2024 at Syracuse with less support (granted inferior competition). The challenge for NYJ is finding someone who can develop either McCord or Jordan Travis. Round 5) Pittsburgh 158 Tyler Batty DE BYU 6-5 273 Making a secondary pick here only because I am trying desperately to get a replacement for Michael Clemons. He was only playing because Jermaine Johnson got hurt. Normally I say keep a guy for his final rookie year contract because the $$s make sense & we don’t have roster luxury this year or next, --- but I’m just sick of this guy & I can’t stand the sight of him in a NYJ uniform any longer. He gets blocked out of every play in 1 on 1s by TEs. Not to mention the scuffles & fights & stupid penalties drive me nuts. 4th rounds of draft & later are our chances to find the Maxx Crosbys + Matt Milanos of the league. Round 6) our own pick 186 Hunter Wohler S Wisconsin 6-2 213 Have to try to find capable backups and/or special teams players. Led the team in tackles past 2 seasons. Round 6) TB 196 (Believe it or not, --- this is from the Denzel Mims TB/Detroit trade years ago.) Connor Colby OG Iowa 6-5 308 Can’t go wrong with Iowa guards. Need to build depth here with John Simpson contact up after 2025 (but I’d emphasize re-signing him) & in case we let AVT go after 2025. Colby has played/started for 4yrs at Iowa making All Big Ten teams at some level each year. Watching the Buffalo Bills constantly employ an extra lineman on running downs. Round 6) KC 208 (KC’s pick from the Mecole Hardman trade) Jason Marshall, Jr. CB Florida 6-0 198 3yr starter at CB. 5 star prospect coming out of HS. Could be a victim of the unsettled coaching staff at UF. 7) no pick ---- went to KC in the Mecole Hardman trade
What worry's me more is them picking a development QB, having a bad season and a high pick and then not choosing a QB from a stronger class next year because they already got their development piece in, both your choice and Travis. (though he looks unlikely atm in time)
I’m in for all of this. I don’t know much about the Stanford kid but I like the idea of grabbing a second round receiver along with Membou and then beefing the defense up the rest of the draft.
Funny you ask ---- I was debating between CJ West in the 3rd round or Gunnar Helm TE from Texas at pick 92. Maybe its the loyal Long Islander in me --- I want to give Jeremy Ruckert a chance as TE1 to finally see what he could possibly do.
Love it. Mind you I am not familiar with any of the players after Membou, but it ticks all the boxes for me: OL with the high first rounder, then WR and DT, positions of great need, and a developmental QB in the mid rounds.
I like Ruckert but all indications are the Jets want to bring in other options through the draft. I wouldn’t be surprised if they draft two. If that were the case I can see the two draft picks, Ruckert, and Stone battling for the 3 spots. I do like Ruckert though and would like to see him get a few more opportunities….
Membou has been flying up draft boards post combine. It’s the silliest pick to make at 7, there’s 10 other OT’s that are just as good as Membou.
Kelvin Banks Will Campbell Josh Simmons Grey Zabel Josh Conerly Wyatt Millum Jonah Saavianaea Aerontae Ersery Cam Williams Donovan Jackson Marcus Mbow Membou was somewhere around 7-10 on this list before the combine. Regardless, all of these guys are top quality OT’s.
Ozzy Trapillo is another from BC….a lot of mocks have the Jets landing him in the third round. He’s a natural RT and supposedly sneaky good.
Jackson is probably a NFL guard (only played left tackle out of necessity last year) and Milum might be too. But yes, it’s a very deep OT draft with good guard upside too.
My mock I just did. I would have liked a better TE, but I missed out with how the board fell: 7 Will Campbell OT | LSU 42 Jayden Higgins WR | Iowa State 73 Alfred Collins DL | Texas 110 Will Howard QB |Ohio State 145 Billy Bowman S |Oklahoma 162Mitchell Evans TE |Notre Dame 186 Barren Sorrell EDGE |Texas 207 Jack Kiser LB |Notre Dame
I would be happy with this….only thing is I prefer McCord over Howard …. I think a QB taken in the fourth round will have a decent chance to stick but I think McCord will stand out… Kiser in the sixth is a steal
Do you have any scenario where we trade back? I'd love to drop a few slots and grab Nick Emmanwori with the 1st pick then an o-line/d-line at 2. Thoughts on that?
I should have stated from the start that I typically prefer to trade down to acquire more picks ---- besides having a bad owner & below average FO/CS, - I feel that trading up & trading away draft picks is what has contributed to the failings of NYJ. I do like Emmanwori a lot - he'd be a moveable chess piece on D, but it would be very difficult to figure out how far down to trade to get him. I think he's definitely top 15 but could go as early as 11.
I don’t really see what Emmanwori gets us? He just seems like he’s ready to jump into the long line of tweeners that never find a home at any position in the NFL. Seems like a tremendous athlete but strong safeties with lackluster coverage skills don’t buy you a lot in the NFL anymore unless they’re supplementary tertiary pieces to a defense. Definitely not worth top selections.
My thought was, pending how far Moog could trade back, if the team could go down to just below 10, they could hopefully pick up an extra 1 in the 2026 draft and maybe a 2nd or 3rd in 2025. Emmanwori, I think, could do quite a bit in AG's defense. I feel like he has the basic skill set where a "secondary hawk," like AG, could coach him up a bit and we'd have our SS for the foreseeable future. With as deep as O/D-Line is this year, I really "hate" to burn a 1 on something so pedestrian when we can really get someone at a position that doesn't come along all that often. Just spit balling different ideas. If I was putting $100 down, my guess is Membou at 7 is what this 1st round will look like for the Jets.
I think Howard, Ewers, or McCord are likely to be selected by the Jets. They will be available in later rounds, likely to develop into at least the back-up QB (replace TT in 2026), with an outside chance of eventually developing into a starter.
