https://x.com/afialkow21/status/1900254758797025301 Big yikes. Those are three plays in a row. He missed a TD (then missed the WR he threw to) and two open receivers for first downs.
yes, but the league has changed a lot. Justin Fields is a running QB. He's not a QB that will take off and run sometimes, he is a running QB. That gives him more opportunities to fumble the ball, and fumbles are the big reason why he has those numbers. He has to fix the fumbling but I dont think he's comparable to the traditional pocket passers which flood your list of all-time numbers. -- Where is Vinny Testaverde on your list? After 44 games he would've been far worse than Fields in turnovers
I haven’t been here on this site for a while but I’m getting big former Zach Wilson supporter vibes from you.
I've supported every QB the team had while they were here. Doesn't mean you can't acknowledge the bad. I want Fields to work out just as bad as I've wanted Wilson, Darnold, Geno, Sanchez, etc. to work out.
Oh Vinny probably had 80 in his first 44 games. Also not a flattering comparison. You could also say that Fields has less INTs than a pocket passer because he's throwing less. He has more opportunities to fumble, less to throw a pick.
Great running QBs Lamar Jackson Jalen Hurts Josh Allen Good running QBs Kyler Murray Jayden Daniels Average/Bad or Questionable running QBs Justin Fields Drake Maye? Anthony Richardson Tyrod Taylor Daniel Jones
These reps were not good. But they did score 32 points. Was there some good also in that game perhaps? Maybe even more good than bad given how many they scored? I would really like to know, that's the only game of his last year where I do not have all 22.
14-24 (58%) 0 TD 0 INT 11 rushes 59 yards 2 TD 1 FL Chris Boswell had 12 points, just as many as Justin Fields (and could have had 13, PIT opted for a failed 2-pt conversion instead)
I am showing 0 FL. Two rushing TDs for Fields, no TOs. 145 passing, 59 yards on the ground for Fields, 204 total. 32 points. Again, I haven't seen the game, but he must made some good plays too to achieve this outcome.
some guys need to see it, some anticipate the guy coming open and some throw the guy open. really they all do some of each of those things. if you are running a complex system that needs super accurate throws in tight windows and to be perfectly on time he may not be the guy. if they can put him in positions to make a read and get the ball out he should do well. he can throw the ball, he has a pretty nice deep ball from what i have seen. and comfortability, both with the expecations and reads as well as the receivers. hopefully they find a way to make all those things happen.
Geno used to struggle playing on time and be late on his throws when he was with us. So there is precedent of it improving. Coincidentally, we have Geno’s QB coach from last year maybe he can pass along what helped get the light turned on.
Watched some Raiders film. To be fair, there was a good amount of mistakes from Fields. And even the 32 points, they had a good field position off TOs a few times. So, it was not a great game, and he could have done better. But with that said, there were still some really good plays. And there were some near misses. Like he threw a beautiful TD pass on the run, but he was about a foot ahead of line of scrimmage and it was disallowed. Or at the end he could have hit Pickens for a TD but got conservative (or missed) and only had 40 yard gain but on a 5 yard line. Ultimately they had to settle for a FG. Overall, it was not the best game, but it was not terrible either. There was some good stuff. I don't think he deserved to benched for it. And that's the thing, no one is saying the guy is a top QB. Just that he is not bad. Last year he seemed maybe slightly below average. There are boneheaded mistakes, there is some of slow processing, not trusting what he sees, there is some holding onto the ball too long and some bad sacks (though in the Raiders game the sacks did not seem to be his fault). But there is a also a lot of good, there is also team around him including schematically not being very helpful, and there are some high level throws and a serious threat of a run game. Again, in aggregate perhaps a slightly below average, and I do get the point that he started for 3.5 years, but he is still a young guy and age does matter. Young QBs CAN get better and he did get better every year so far. And if not - we can draft a QB next year. And frankly what were the alternatives? Keeping Rodgers was the obvious one, and I am a fan of Rodgers, but last year he was not the same Rodgers. Maybe you forgot that opposing teams were laughing how immobile he is. He was wildly inconsistent and whenever the line was not playing great, he was bad and then hurt. And supporting cast he had was quite good with two top WRs, much better than what Fields had plus a better OL. Rodgers wasn't bad either though, but also below average. And a year older - who knows how much he will drop off. That is why I say Fields is an upgrade. Not because Fields is an All Pro, but because Rodgers is not the same now and will get worse. And other alternatives, we heard Wentz, Mariota, we are basically in Zach Wilson territory. That's why I think AG and Mooge did as good as they could have in getting Fields to win now, but also maybe give some probability of a longer term solution, however unlikely it may be. That to me was the best case scenario given the QB market and the fact we do not have a high enough draft pick to get Cam.
I like the Fields signing as the best option for what was out there. However, I would still take Dart if he is there in Round 2, and if not, I would take whoever is next on the draft board in Round 3. Clearly we need a young developmental QB with talent. Maybe Travis if fully recovered, but just cant count on that. I am totally good with Taylor as QB2 next season.
