Dude I don’t really get what you expected this offseason? We have a monster dead cap number because of the Rodgers mistake and looming extensions for Sauce, JJ, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall. They are all eligible. We were going to have a very docile free agent spending spree. Tim Patrick or other aren’t moving the needle even if the wide receiver room sucks. We’re going to be a ground and pound grind it out team next year for better or worse.
Kupp is a walking extended injury waiting to happen these days. He's also probably out of our realistic target market range with the general level of interest that is surrounding him. Same as NE is learning now if we are *not* the one out there paying the bad team overpay tax then *we* aren't going to be the one signing any of those types. I'm actually pretty good with a current approach of finding a less competitive vet guy fit add, hoping Corley takes a step forward next year, and with maybe looking at drafting WR from the 2nd round on. No rush or surrounding need for this realistically in a full rebuild team to go "name" chasing.
I just realized Allen Lazard is still on the roster. Given what's out there in free agency I wonder if they end up keeping him after all. I still doubt it given the cap hit for the production, but it's seeming a little more possible he sticks right now
He was actually playing semi-descent last season until he got hurt. At this point, you might as well stick with him as there aren't many better options. Maybe the Jets get lucky and Corley becomes a solid #2, so Lazard can stay at 3.
He’s not …. Not to mention he’s 31. Needle movers or not this regime appears to favor younger players …
Saleh and his schemes fielded one of the better defenses we've had in my lifetime. I think it's perfectly legit to question whether Glenn's product is actually going to end "upgrading" on that, or on the defense coaching room before they elevated Ulbrich to a position he had no business of ever being in. Same goes for our current OC situation. Ben Johnson didn't come over with Aaron Glenn. We got the guy Detroit didn't think highly enough to offer them the job as Ben's replacement. Who like Hackett before him is essentially falling upwards in his career almost exclusively based on who he knows as opposed to, ya know... any real tangible record of success being "the guy" we can point to. Heck, he's even bringing in a completely different type of QB skillset then what Ben was running with detroit. To say we are banking on anything more then blind hope that he's an "upgrade" to Hackett is a complete reach there atm/imo. Change for the sake of change doesn't always just default into better. I been trying to embrace the rebuild and defend the Fields signing quite a bit last few days, but i mean c'mon. This reaching is just as silly as the "Fields is an upgrade over Rodgers" stuff. Can we please go one freaking off-season without hyping up our current position as a franchise into something it's not? lol
Yeah like i was saying earlier in the day that Kupp contract wasn't gonna be something in our wheelhouse this winter. Sheesh. That contract breakdown better end up being reasonably cuttable after one year.
I don’t know why so many people are doing this weird thing where they pretend anyone thinks the world is ending. It’s inarguably bad that we are going into the season with no one at receiver other than Garrett Wilson and maybe a rookie unless you want to count Lazard as a functioning human. Pointing out that it’s a bad thing when cheap competent receivers sign elsewhere when we need them does not mean anyone thinks the sky is falling.
