Anyone talking about this? https://heavy.com/sports/nfl/new-york-jets/carlton-davis-patriots-nfl-bidding-war/
Aaron Wilson@AaronWilson_NFL #Jets three-year, $45 million deal for Jamien Sherwood: $30M gtd, $12.5M signing bonus, salaries $2.5M (gtd), $7.5M (gtd), $15M; $7.5M option bonus to be exercised by first game 2026; 2028-2030 void years if on roster 5th day 2028 league year This is basically a two year deal with an out on year three and very manageable cap hits before then. Cap hits, if my math is correct: 2025: $6.6 mil 2026: $15.3 mil 2027: $22.8 mil (no guarantees, dead cap charge of $7.8 mil if cut, $15 mil in savings)
I whiffed on the void year. Still very manageable and basically a two year deal. https://overthecap.com/player/jamien-sherwood/9610
Sherwood will never see that 3rd year with all the money. why do players agree to those contracts? All it does it make the agent and teams look good
If all goes well Sherwood is going to see a new contract that pays him more. This is exactly the type of deal you take if you’re a 25 year-old entering your prime. At 27 he’s going to get a monster deal if he continues on the trajectory he’s on.
More than 22.8 million? which is what he's due in that 3rd year if they don't void it. I dont think he's that kind of player. I guess I can understand jumping at the 15 million next season for him though. Take what you can as there is a short shelf life in this league.
Carlton Davis was the key guy in Aaron Glenn's secondary last year so it makes sense that there is some buzz around him. He has specifically mentioned wanting the biggest pay day possible though and the market for corners is insane right now. I remember Revis holding out for $16 million a year and that was considered greedy. These days 16apy wouldn't even hit the top 10 at the cornerback position only! Davis is gonna want something in the range of 19 million apy. I'd rather sit that out and figure out a way to pay Sauce Gardner instead, especially since Michael Carter already has a decent contract at the position
Basically a 3 year deal, 15 mil per, with 3d year team option. I think this a good deal for Sherwood, and he may very well see that 3d year if he plays well. Basically the team gave him a really good contract for the 1st two years and in return Sherwood agreed to give them an option for the 3d year at the same price. This seems like a fair deal - it does look like he wanted to stay here. I am very confident he would get similar deal or even slight more guarantees either from Saleh or Brick if he hit free agency. I can tell you right now JD does not do this deal. He is always looking for a bargain, for better or worse. This was not a bargain, but I do think it is a good fair move.
Everyone is connecting the Jets to Fields, including Josina, all beat writers, and national reporters. This is the latest from Shfty from this morning, who has excellent reputation: Stealers actually want Fields, according to Shefty, but he is slow playing it because he wants to hear from the Jets at noon what their offer is. And Stealers got Metcalf now, plus they are a play-off team, and Fields already lives there, which does make them attractive. Stealers are also talking to Russ and Rodgers. Now of course we know their agent already heard from the Jets and he knows exactly what the offer is. Just that officially they cannot say it. The only reason it appears Fields didn't sign with Pitts yet is because they fucked him last year and he does not want to get burned again. Or he wants to use the Jets to get a bigger offer from Pitts negotiating throughout the day like Cousins did years ago. I really hope it is the former. It really does feel like it will either be Stealers or the Jets for Fields. Keep fingers crossed, but I do think we will know the answer today.
Honestly, I would sign with Steelers if I was Fields. And I would do it as a huge Jets fan. Playing for a dumb owner Woody or playing for a team that never had a losing season in past 20 years or so? Choice is easy.
