Yes, I might be wrong. Just as soon as I read the article about Sam potentially going to the Seahawks, latest news came out that he is probably staying in Minnie. Interestingly enough, both the GM and HC of the Seahawks also said they wanted to keep Geno, but apparently Geno wanted a new contract. Exciting week coming up.
It's clear as far as athleticism is concerned he inherited the blood line of his mom though. He seems less of an athlete and more of a heady player - and could be a smaller Chad Pennington perhaps. I just do not like the size and not great arm strength. Likely a 1st round player still, but a hard pass for me at 7.
I’ll tell you exactly what to be afraid of, because we’ve done this time and again. I’d be afraid of not picking one of the top QB’s of 2026, which is going to be the best overall class in a decade, because “we just drafted Jaxson Dart and he needs time to develop…”. Just like we passed on Mahomes because we just drafted Hackenberg.
Dianna Russini is reporting the Seahawks are expected to be in on Darnold. If that happens I think people are also potentially sleeping on Cousins being the one to head back to Minny for a rebuild value type season (or less if McCarthy forces his way in there early) once an attractive market opportunity doesn't materialize for him elsewhere.
He just lost his starting job to Penix. He would be walking in the exact same situation in Minny with JJ. Plus it is the team that wanted to move away from him in the first place. I don't see this situation being high on his list. Maybe if he runs out of options.
Minny moved away from him because they didn't want to pay him 4 years/$180m type money. Bringing Cousins back in now at 1 year flyer money would look and be entirely different from that. Plus if you still want a bridge guy over making McCarthy a day 1 starter on a team that believes it's in the super bowl bowl hunt Cousins is still the guy that best knows the system with zero break in needed. Who last we saw him 2 years ago in said system was performing just as good or arguably even slightly better then Sam was last year. I think it's a pretty decent bet Cousins does indeed run out of better overall options. Only so many musical chairs up for grabs and some of the better spots for him are already being filled. I'm not sure a guaranteed full time starting gig here is even a better career move then a start the year as starter gig in Minny even while having to look over your shoulder. Much much higher probability of stacking up another failure showing here.
You bring up an interesting point that Dart might go ahead of Sanders. I think both of them are quite a bit behind Cam, who is the only one I would take at 7, but Dart does have some Bo Nix vibes. And Bo worked out very well for Denver. Basically a second or even third round prospect who did very well at the combine and Sr Bowl to the point where he impressed people and that legitimately raised his stock, because it does have real value to compete head to head with even some of the guys who were rated higher and clearly beat them out. So Dart to me is a legit 1st rounder, but top 10 - not sure of that one. Bo did go #12 and seemed to have worked out well. Is there a Mahomes in the next draft though? I agree this draft class seems weak up top (really only one guy there Cam IMO, who will go #1) but will the next one have more? Last draft had 3 (went top 3), the one before had 2 (went top 2). In other words you will need a top 2 pick, and top 3 at best next year, assuming the draft is as good as you say. Other prospects are probably on par with likes of Dart and Sanders. Meaning some good, but some bad too.
There are going to be 6 or 7 QB’s next year that I believe will have a higher grade and more potential than everyone but Cam Ward in this draft, beginning obviously with Archie Manning. But even beyond Manning there are some stellar prospects that I think will put in great seasons next year. In my opinion next’s year’s QB crop will be the best in years.
I think if we get Fields, we will pass on a QB in the 1st round and maybe even the 2nd. If not though, and we end up with someone like Mariota, or Wentz, the chances of getting someone like Dart using 7th overall will greatly increase.
I don’t get why we wouldn’t look into Winston. He can get Wilson the ball and make plays but also turnover prone. If he plays well we win games and have a chance at maybe a WC if we build the roster right this offseason. If he doesn’t then we pick high next year. Fields I would be ok with also. The other options just don’t do anything for me and are much older
That’s why I want Fields. He’s the same chances of turning into a decent QB as Sanders or Dart (mind you the chance for any of them is just about nil), but you can get away from Fields in a year. Dart or Sanders introduces the whole brigade of posters with the excuses “they need 3 years to develop, we haven’t given them a chance, how can we draft a QB when we haven’t given this one a chance”.
At this point it’s a mind f what’s goin on with qb with that being said, we’re going Mason Graham or that Missouri RT and not looking back
Just because I'm feeling "frisky" today. What do you mean "cult of Fields?" I see no poster foaming at the mouth for the kid. In fact, it's the exact opposite. EVERYONE is saying 1 or 2 year deal. He plays well, great! He doesn't, no skin off anyone's nose. At this juncture, he's essentially the best option in a year where the FA market sucks and the draft sucks. I'm not sold on Ward being worth anything above the 2nd round and Sanders will be out of the league in 5 years or a perennial backup. The QB class of 2025 is trash. Best to get to 2026. Which, if the light goes on for Fields, we won't need to worry about drafting a QB. If he flops then we're in play for a 2026 QB. That is all.
