Doesn't really matter if the Best QB at the Sr. Bowl is best of a bunch of 5th round draft picks. Doesn't make him draftable above the 3rd or 4th round. He's just the best of a very bad QB class that is nowhere near ready. That INCLUDES Sanders and Ward. To be honest, both these kids are either out of the league in 5 years or a career backup.
I agree with 99% of this. The QB thing is trickier though. The upside for landing a good young QB is so high that there's almost no such thing as a reach at the position.
Maybe this works for a majority of players, but it would rule out Tom Brady. In fact, it did rule out Tom Brady. No teams believed he would be a franchise QB.
There is. If a kid is projected in the 2nd or 3rd round and suddenly jumps up to being a top 10 pick, that’s a reach. If Joe Douglas decided James Morgan was a franchise QB and drafted him in the first, that’s a reach. Drafting Jaxson Dart in the first round is a reach.
Correct. There are literally 1000 QB’s drafted in the mid-late rounds that all rightfully sucked. You don’t draw up plans based on the Brady factor or else you see idiots drafting guys like James Morgan in the 1st round just because they had a hunch. Actually even better, shouldn’t every available QB be drafted in the first round before any other players based on the Tom Brady logic?
Yeah. Statistically, it made no sense to draft Brady in an early round. Usually, those hunches end up like Christian Hackenberg.
I would think Geno Smith still keeps them potentially in on a QB of the future pick. So happy to see that.
Agree completely. Now, Sam Darnold is probably on his way to Seattle so the dominoes will start falling. It would be an outside shot for AR to go there, but that would be a great fit. We could trade tonight for the third they just got ( our third) but that is wishful thing. I think AR could flourish there much better than in NY with the Giants
And not just sr Bowl, also at the combine as well. Got far and away the best reviews. That's two for two on post season activities. And it's not like he had a bad season. He is actually #1 rated passer by PFF in 2024 and top 10 in 2023. First team all SEC. On top of that there are a few serious NFL people who are raving about him. One of them is of course our own Rick Spielman. But also I listened to Dick Chimney's podcast recently, where he had Charlie Wiess on. Charlie was the one who though Bo Nix was going be good and he raved about Dart: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/flight-deck-with-rich-cimini/id1466085257 I need to watch more of his film. Doesn't mean I want him with #7, but he does look like a solid 1st rounder based on everything I know so far, ahead of Milroe.
As far as I've been reading, a lot of GM's do not have a 1st round grade on any of the QB's. Now, if that was one or two I'd raise an eyebrow. "A lot of GM's" sounds like more than a few. I'll trust their abilities over mine. NO QB in this draft.
Barring a situation where Johnny Manziel shows up drunk to your meeting with him, the pre-draft activities are stupid and should be ignored.
I only think there are two QBs worth anything in this draft ... Dart and McCord. I would stay away from everyone else.
Strange you say Darnold is now probably going to Seattle when strong reports today say the Vikings will be keeping him.
That's a fearful way of looking at it. The Jets need to be fearless & bold. The timing is perfect to draft a young QB with the #1 pick. New HC, new GM, new everything(?) draft a young QB to grow with them. If it work great if not try again. By now we should be used to that (the not working out part) so what exactly is there to be afraid of?
Not about the 7th pick, but apparently they have the 73rd pick in the 3rd rather than the 92nd. Good news https://thejetpress.com/ny-jets-draft-pick-actually-much-higher-expected-shocking-twist-01jnsm70b5vn
I hear you. But he has thoroughbred champion bloodlines. His Dad is considered one of the greatest NFL players of all time. Of course no guarantees in the draft but the Mannings, Kelces, McCaffrey I saw young players recently I remember watching their Dads play Surtain, Porter, Winfield. Cook in Buffalo is the brother of Dalvin Cook. Just to name a few. Bloodlines matters. There are cases the player doesn't turn out great or good, Brian Griese didn't turn out too good. There are likely more so it happens but the Jets shouldn't be fearful.
The Jets have nothing at the position right now. Drafting a QB with their #1 picks seems like a sensible thing to do? And if it doesn't work out try again. These are professional talent evaluators. They see will see the player up close & personal most days of the year for the next few years so they'll know fairly quickly what they have. I remember seeing somewhere that Rex said in one of his books he knew Sanchez wouldn't be great? If it doesn't work out try again. Who came up with this 'law' that because a QB is selected high in the first round a team can't keep on drafting QBs?
Jaxson Dart is gonna go top 10, and probably ahead of Sheduer. There is well respected people in the community who have him as their #1. Not saying it's right or wrong but it's fact. Dart is kinda like JJ McCarthy from last year in that he was seen as a day 2 pick all year and then ends up in top half of the 1st.
Great news, it looks like JD only pissed away 92nd pick for Adams, not 73d And crazy enough still by far the best return on the investment of any 3d round pick JD has ever had (total 6, including next year's 3d he wasted for Reddick).
