I just had this argument with someone else. This mindset doesn't jive with me. If you stop, you ensure the team NEVER brings along a starting QB. That's not sound. With that said... my stance is taking a QB in later rounds. We take flyers there anyway, why not make it at the most important position? I def wouldn't take a QB with my first two picks in this upcoming draft. The value just isn't there. IMO
We don’t have a third round pick. We need to make rounds one and two count. Lots of talent at positions of need, OL,DL, TE, CB, Safety and LB for starters. Pick BPA in those areas and move on. I don’t mind taking a flyer on a QB later. Further, I still hold hope on our rookie, I want to see him this year make some strides with the new leadership. As to the suggestion to tank the season so we can get the number one pick next year, for Manning, that is the most pathetic approach ever. Any leadership team with any pride and class at all would never, ever contemplate such a looser approach to the game. That is an insult to the game, to the players and to the NFL, and completely laughable BS. The ultimate looser mentality, even by Jets standards. You F@$= play to win every game.
We actually do have a 3rd round pick. We have the Lions 3rd rounder. Last year we sent a 4th rounder to the Lions for their 2025 3rd rounder
Agreed, but we already took a flyer on Jordan Travis just last year with the understanding that he will likely be out this year due to injury. He now should be healthy and ready to play. Basically it is an equivalent of having picked someone in this year's draft. So, is there a point in picking TWO mid round QBs in a draft? There really isn't. So is there a point in picking one this year when we effectively already picked Jordan Travis, whom we need to evaluate? The answer is the same: there isn't.
there is a point and it’s very simple- Joe Douglas selected Jordan Travis and he clearly didn’t know how to evaluate QBs. The smart move is to assume now Travis was the wasted pick, not the next selection.
Dumb question: Is the entire scouting department gone, and an entirely new staff running this draft in its place?
I mean. He's a huge question mark with that injury. This new regime hasn't had the ability to properly evaluate the kid, he doesn't have any pro tape, so it will depend on a lot of factors for this new regime. If the new regime want to invest in him, sure. If not, then you go a different route. Remember, this was a Joe D pick, nobody should be safe right now because of the new regime and their vision moving forward.
I don't know anything about Sanders (or really any college prospect) but if he's like his Dad i would throw in "moxie." Not necessarily a bad trait for a QB
If Mooge had him as undraftable, then you are 100% correct. But the guy was talked about as a 3d round pick pre injury as general consensus, then 5th rounder after the injury, so there is a good chance Mooge had him on his draft board too. This article nailed it pretty well: https://www.sportskeeda.com/nfl/whe...fted-exploring-florida-state-qb-s-draft-stock He should be healthy now. If I remember correctly there are OTAs pre draft. Mooge will definitely be carefully monitoring these. If we draft a QB in mid rounds that likely means Travis didn't do too well there.
Teams will historically keep the lame ducks in the scouting department since they have been scouting all year and then replace them after the draft. (this is yet another reason it makes no sense to draft QB in the first round of the first year of a regime. )
I hope this new Gm aint desperate and trades away alott of picks to go up and take a Qb, no Qb in the 1st round is worth taking.
IMO the Jets have quite a few critical needs and it is important for the new leadership to start out-of-the-gate strong with the their first draft. Couple with the fact this is not a strong year for QBs so over reaching for a QB would be unwise and unnecessarily risky. Instead beef up a few areas like DL, OL, TE and CB/Safety will low risk high reward picks. May be take a flier in the later round if one is there and take this year to evaluate both Travis and the rookie in depth under the new CS.
A trade for Cam Ward is getting buzz online idk I need to research him more but it seems like it would be a steep price anyway
Question to the Bower Boys, any thoughts on Tyler Warren from Penn State? Normally I would not look at a TE this early, but given what Brock has done and you calling it, is Tyler in similar category?
Depends on how the new regime views him. The last few didn't value TE's highly, I doubt we take him at 7 but I've seen crazier things.
He's a similar player and he's really dynamic, just not nearly as fast. He can do a lot outside of what you expect from a TE and that's something I look for when you're picking that early. I guess it depends on how the board falls. Like, say, if he and Travis Hunter are sitting there, TH is a no-brainer.
