I don’t think it’s romanticizing though. Carroll’s a good coach. His question marks IMO are how quickly can he turn around a shit franchise and how patient is he going to be given his age to stick around and want to do so.

What you just said above is actually a really good tenure compared to the crap we’ve gotten lol.

I’m still in on Glenn and like the hire but Carroll’s a damn good football coach.

To be clear, I'm not calling Carroll a bad coach BY ANY MEANS. I would have taken him here. My scoffing is at the notion that you pointed out yourself... can he turn around an absolute shit franchise the way some here are claiming he 100% absolutely without a doubt will? My point was it's been a while since Carroll is what people are saying he was and he did that when he had years and years to build a team. He doesn't have years and years and the team is historically inept and terrible. Sound familiar? Which is why I also laugh at the notion that he was a better choice than Aaron Glenn.

Are you really trying to argue that Aaron Glenn is a better coaching hire than Pete Carroll?

Your point about the constant negativity was valid but you've dug your heels in and are now arguing something preposterous.

I mean we’re going to see whether he’s a better hire or not. I would’ve been happy with either honestly.

I think Carroll (obviously) has more short term upside in fixing the franchise quickly. And when I say fix it I mean getting us closer to a playoff push and .500 football towards the end of the year. I acknowledge this is a sad barometer but that’s where we are at.

I think Glenn has much better longer term (obviously) upside though. And isn’t going to seek out short term fixes like Carrol might given his age.

Thats not what I said at all let alone trying to argue it. Again the point is this certainty that Pete Carroll would have turned us into a contender but Aaron Glenn stands no chance. It’s not a valid opinion.

    Carroll is old as fuck.

You have to put in long hours to be successful in this league, I don’t care what anyone says, a 75 year old gets tired after 8 hours of work

and that’s half the hours that Glenn will work

Raiders need to draft and develop a qb in the next 2 years and develop him so what do they do hire a offensive minded coach who developed qb's before and has a good track record, Jets need to draft and develop a qb in the next 2 years so what do they do hire a defensive coach that never developed a qb before and has no track record. See a difference? If Aaron Rodgers was 28 and could play another 15 years, there would be justification on hiring Aaron Glenn, but right now theres non. If Pete Carrol coaches the Raiders for 2 more years and develops their next franchise Qb(because thats all the league is all about these days), he earned his paycheck.

Pete Carroll is a defensive minded head coach. Perhaps you don’t remember or weren’t alive yet but he was the Jets DC.

He never worked on the offensive side of the ball

Major part of Geno Smiths, and Russell Wilsons development, that's track record for you which Aaron Glenn has non. No coincidence that Geno Smith was crap before Pete Carroll got a hold of him.

There was a lot of frustration over Carroll’s conservative style out there as well. They kept drafting defensive players or running backs and oversized run blocking offensive linemen to accommodate that instead of building a passing offense around Wilson.

That’s where the “Let Russ Cook” campaign came from because they wanted Carroll to open it up.

Wilson was good as soon as he entered the league, I don’t think Carroll developed him. That’s like saying Dan Quinn developed Jayden Daniels

The irony here of course was Pete Carroll costing the Seahawks another title by passing on the 1 yard line instead of giving it to the best power back in the league at the time.

Wow the league giving the Lions 2 3rd's for the Jets hiring Aaron Glenn, the rich keep getting richer. Hopefully one day other teams will be poaching our coaches and we will be getting richer but not likely with Woody at helm.

    I hope it works out.

That's all I can do at this point.

I hope Glenn has enough sense to bring back Aaron Rodgers and hires a OC with enough sense to know how to maximize every last drop Rodgers has left.

Aaron Rodgers is the best thing the Jets have going for them. Whether or not they realize it.
