I am underwhelmed by the Glenn choice to be honest. But your point is also valid. Maybe Glenn will generate accountability and if he finds good coordinators then we might even have a winning season but a Head Coach without X's and O's knowledge will not work long term as soon as said coordinators leave or the roster quality erodes. Hopefully this new combo works but I don't really have much hope even though I am an eternal optimist.
We are about to draft our next franchise Qb, so what do, we are about to hire a no name defensive coordinator to be a major part of his development, our offense has been ass with a great running back, 2 all pro wide receivers and a hall of fame quarter back, so what do we do? Look to hire a defensive coach who knows nothing about offense and is his 1st time coaching, only the Jets I swear.
that's the thing 6 more years of maybes and uncertainty's when you can hire someone proven like Mccarthy and would come here. Atleast you know what the hell your getting in Mccarthy, It will take 6 years to figure out and another bust Qb to figure out if Aaron Glenn can coach a damn. We are just throwing a hail mary up time and time again and hoping by some miracle it works.
Yup…and I ain’t getting any younger… We are just one message board, but I gotta figure that Woody is coming closer and closer to just alienating all of the fans…I hope season ticket sales plummet…fuck him
to say Glenn doesnt have Xs and Os knowledge is an overstatement. He's not a "smarter than everybody else" type though sure. But Adam Gase was and Gase sucked. Develop your players and execute, it's something that always works, and it has been lacking with the Jets the criticisms are over the top here on this site. "woe is me" everywhere. The Jets need a new coach and we have them close to hiring the top coordinator on the market. If the Jets dont get him, Glenn likely lands as the Saints coach, or if not with them certainly back in Detroit... where he maybe wins the freakin super bowl next year now that he will have his best player back from injury
If Woody's really going to hire these C tier candidates, then my only thought at that point would be go Commanders.
I'm also underwhelmed. In the Lions playoff loss as I recall, the genius D coordinator had 12 men on defense AFTER A TIMEOUT, on a crucial 4th & 2 late in the game. While the former player angle is nice, give me someone with some HC experience please. Also, there is not a shred of evidence that Glenn can develop a qb.
It looks like Woody fucked this up again. As I said upthread last week before all these reports came out, this will be a very tough first HC gig for any coach and that includes wunderkinds like Ben Johnson. It sounds like Woody has made his bed with this Glenn/Newmark team but there's a lot of pitfalls with this. I pray it works out but I just don't like it. Jets need a proven commodity at this point to right the ship. This wreaks of Saleh/Douglas 2.0. The fucking Jets had all the time in the world (since October) and here they are scrambling and the entire free world can see that they're unsure about the process. Something very wrong with the Johnsons. This franchise is most likely f*cked for years to come. My best advice: Go find a new team to support.
Yeah I'm trying not to be too much of a doomer but I just have zero faith in Woody to ever do the right thing. His track record of incompetence is too long at this point. He learns absolutely nothing from past failures so I'm not sure how we'll ever turn things around other than sheer luck. Woody just so reliably does the wrong thing. It would almost be impressive if it wasn't so frustrating. Glenn is the "safe" choice in Woody's mind. Nevermind the fact that he's the exact mold Woody always hires and the exact mold that never works for us. Woody might actually have a brain injury or medical condition. I just can't understand how someone could learn so little from such a long list of failures. It's like he doesn't have a single logical cell in his body.
This truly is great advice. Any young fans out there reading this: do what he says. It’s too late for me, but save yourselves!
What all of this does show is that Woody, despite mountains of evidence to the fact that offense is what wins in this league, is hellbent on creating a winner by bucking that trend and doing it with defense.
I think the plan since jets found out ulbrich couldn’t coach a damn was to hire vrabel and they thought vrabel would come here and suck woodys little pecker to be here, once vrabel ditched them for a real franchise woody had no backup plan, after all thinking is overrated right? So now we’re back to chapter 1 in woodys book, “if all else fails, go back to the only thing you know, hire a defensive coordinator with no coaching experience and hope to hit lighting in a bottle”.
I don’t know that Glenn was my first choice but I don’t see how he’s a bad choice that is drawing all the dislike here.
Well, he's not an experienced and extremely successful head coach like Parcells, but he seems to have a lot of the characteristics needed to be a great HC. We'll just have to wait and see.
This. I would love for Glenn to focus on being a head coach and a leader of men. He would need to hire the right DC and then be hands off and focus on the entire team. This is why I am not overly concerned about Glenn’s D rankings - we have been down the road of glorified coordinators as head coaches. If he can stick to the Detroit model where basically Cambpell who has an offensive background but the OC is running the offense. X,s and O’s and play calling are not the most important quality for a HC, leadership is.
Drafting a QB? there's no way we are taking a QB in the first round. Also, who do you expect them to get as a coach? No established guy is going to come here.
