This is shaping up to be a Aaron Glenn hiring, I mean why would woody try something different after all, when the same experiment has failed you a million times just keep trying to it succeeds I guess. Get ready for 5 more years of mediocrity folks. In woody we trust https://athlonsports.com/nfl/detroit-lions/detroit-lions-aaron-glen-prefers-new-york-jets#
He's already gotten it wrong unless they've left some names off of the list of people that they intend to interview. They also got it horribly wrong when they didn't go through this process a year ago.
Jerry Jones is priceless! https://nypost.com/2025/01/15/sports/cowboys-to-interview-robert-saleh-after-mike-mccarthy-split/ Jones, 82, has already had a phone conversation with Deion Sanders regarding the role, while Jason Witten was also named a possible replacement, according to ESPN. Get Romo in there as OC! Beta Bob is getting a hell of a lot of run for another HC gig.
I think the problem with Flores isn't his coaching ability, but with how he relates to his players and other staff. I totally understand that criticism, but at the same time I think a "dictatorial" type of guy is exactly what this penalty ridden organization needs. A dude that's not afraid to ruffle feathers and hold others accountable. He's not among my top choices, but I wouldn't be upset about it, as he strikes me as a guy who is very motivated with a chip on his shoulder looking to prove the world wrong.
I don't really care. I've always liked Aaron Glenn as a player and he seems to be a good DC. But its another rookie HC hire. At this point they could reincarnate Vince Lombadi and I would still be in "show me" mode.
Is he? I mean he's probably a top 3 candidate for me right now considering the list of names so far but are the Lions really that great of a defensive team this year? Flores, who I DO NOT WANT for the record, but he can absolutely cook up a mean defense. I don't think Glenns defense have even been on that level. I don't want Flores bc I think our young players hate being here enough as it is.
There are so many openings for HC and thus for assistants. We will have to be patient because the season has a few more weeks to run. The media needs a story every day so even if there is no news they have to find a headline. If they name someone now they will be criticized for moving too early. If they wait it will be reported that they could have gotten X or Y. No win situation I guess.
This shouldn't even be a question here. You take coaches from absolutely anywhere if you don't care about satisfying a fanbase but only want to win football games. The fans will come around.
If we get Smith that would be the most Jets shit hire of the century. He’s an awful coach with zero offensive creativity and basic scheme.
Coaches we should be banging the door down to hire. 1. Ben Johnson 2. Spagnollo 3. Aaron Glenn 4. Kliff Kingsbury Coaches in the middle that would be decent and have a chance at success with experience. 1. Rex 2. McCarthy 3. Pederson 4. Rivera Guys I would not touch with a 10 foot pole 1. A Smith 2. Flores 3. Any coach with less than 5 years coaching experience
I could see it… I think in that situation he could do well. Saleh was handcuffed to bring in Hack. His GM traded away one of his most productive DL in JFM. He lost Huff for Riddick that was a bust. He had ARod running the team over his head. Let’s be serious Saleh is an excellent defensive coach. He got his legs cut off here as soon as Rodgers stepped through the door and had teenagers telling JD what to do… At the Jags he will be set free to run a program that has nice pieces on offence and a D he can coach up.
I’m perfectly fine with hiring the coach before the GM. I find this route leads to better success than vise versa. The coach should be the one advocating for a certain GM because that’s the person assembling the team and pieces he needs on the field. For once we have the right strategy.
Flores is lucky to be even coaching and not selling hot dogs outside the stadium. The guy is a complete self absorbed, know it all prick that nobody he coached or coached with vouched for.
