How much more scrutiny would the Jets or another team get? Would that not be the lead story in EVERYTHING? It is obvious the Patriots are getting a pass because of the Superbowls they won, which I can see. But tell me how much shit Eric Mangini, Brian Billick, Andy Reid, Jon Gruden, etc. etc. etc. get had they managed the clock like Belichick did calling 3 straight pass plays, taking no time off the clock when Indianapolis had 2 timeouts. It's getting blown over just because of what they've done...Any other team does that, the whole nation would be pouncing on that team for the blown lead and clock management.
agreed but Beli had to throw the ball!!!!! the way the Colts offense was moving, theres no question the Pats needed a first down....He would have gotten criticized more if he ran the ball three times
1st down he could of ran. 1st down was an incompletion. Now 2nd and 3rd you wanna pass? Fine...2nd down he got a completion, so 3rd down he sort of had to throw. Now the Colts run defense was great once again outside of the Dillon run in the 1st half. But a 1st down run to make it like 2 and 7 or better would of given Belichick a lot more options.
I agree.. He does get a pass.. and he probably should. He's got to address that defense tho.. they looked awful.. Manning moved the ball at will..
before you can blow an 18 point lead, you have to HAVE an 18 point lead. That may be move difficult than blowing it.
rumor has it he turned a bag with only 1 football in it and then seconds later...there was like 124? Not sure where I heard that story..but I think it was BB.
The only big mistake Belichick made was not calling TO after the 1st down run by the Colts. This gave them 2 TOs but only 1:02 to go once Indy scored. If he calls timeout, and all the plays go down as they did, he has 1:40-1:45. That's a HUGE difference. The Pats, however, DESERVE getting some slack. You win 3 super bowls in 5 years, you get slack. Period.
Ok, I never said he wouldn't get slack and I did say I can see that he gets a pass. I understand that. But any other team, and that coach is blasted to pieces by the media and fans.
Why does he get a pass? The Pats had one of the all-time melt downs in that game and Bellichick should get as much blame as any coach that blows a big lead. He is supposed to be a defensive genius, but his team got smoked for 455 yards and 32 second half points. Plus, the Pats finally paid for not giving their star QB the weapons he should have on offense. Other than the great catch by Gafney, the Pats receivers were awful. And Bellichick should get blame for abandoning a running game that gained almost 90 yards in the first half. I don't care how many games or titles you win, a loss is a loss and a collapse is a collapse. Good teams don't blow big leads in big spots like that. It's amazing how things change when the Pats DON'T get the breaks.
