A blessing in disguise honestly because I truly believe if they selected Bowers Joe Douglas would not be fired today. Jets probably win a few of those bullshit losses early in the season (Denver, NE, Buffalo?) and stay somewhat relevant til the end
You got that right. Davis, W. Johnson & Tepper are all slugging it out to see who's the worst owner in the NFL. Thing is, Davis has no excuses. That fool was raised in the Colosseum in Oakland! How can someone with all that football around him 24/7/365 not have some little chip of Al Davis rub off? Crazy.
Don't forget Jimmy Haslam. Also John Mara better be careful; he inherited Coughlin from his daddy, and his track record post Coughlin is a lot like Woody's post Tannenbaum (the last of the Parcells guys he inherited by buying the Jets with daddy's money).
Tepper might be somewhat redeemed. Bryce Young looked good the second half of the year and could be a decent QB. So we’re really battling Mark Davis and Haslam.
If we’re talking worst owners you have to give an honorable mention to Jim Irsay considering he’s a huge fuck up -nearly killed himself with an overdose -Fired a respected coach midseason and replaced him with someone who never coached before -Forced a new coach to play a QB that quit on his team multiple times and that’s just the last couple years lol
I disagree. I mean let's not ignore that Brock didn't exactly help his team win much, they are picking ahead of us and even their GM was fired, though strange that he did after only 1 year. Still, we probably get extra losses with Olu to counter the games Brock may have helped win and end up with the same shitty record. The offense cannot consistently function without a serviceable OL, it just can't. It's a glue that is a MUST HAVE on a team. Maybe occasionally against a Miami team that has no DL and has mailed it in half way through the game where players are literally leaving the game midway, but ... without Olu we would be screwed too. It would be similar shitty record either way and clean house. As a GM you need to build a serviceable OL. JD would have been gone regardless. Just that Bowers would have been a better pick for the future. We keep talking about "generational" every year for someone and it never works out that way, and with Brock it actually did. But then again, if we are thinking about the future, Bo Nix would have been the best pick. This is where Woody not firing JD and Saleh in the offseason hurts so bad. A new GM very possibly could have either picked Brock or better yet decide that we need a QB of the future to groom behind Rodgers and ended up with Bo. Really a terrible decision by Woody to keep JD an extra offseason that may set us back many years.
You are spot on, I guess the old saying "like father, like son" went to hell in a hand basket with the brilliant Al Davis. I have to tell you Mez, is horribly sad to know our beloved NY Jets are encumbered by arguably one of the top 3 or 4 worst NFL owners of all time. My opinion.
