I don't hate him, but he's been out of coaching for a decade for a reason. He did some good things for the team, I get it, but they were short lived and Rex struggled to adapt to the modern game. Sure, he's one of the better coaches in the history of the Jets, but that bar is so low.
I said the same thing about getting Rodgers albeit without the analogy. Hiring Rex is going to be like doing cocaine. It’s going to be a fun ride at first but is definitely a bad long term decision.
He can also trick you because he has a way with words. I remember not liking the hire in Buffalo, and then I heard his press conferences and I got fooled. The proof was ultimately in the pudding, and he proved that he’s all talk and no action. He thinks that by saying “we’re tough” and saying “we’re gonna do this” that it’s all you have to do and seems to put no effort into seeing those things happen metrically. It was reported in Buffalo he was a last one in, first one out guy. But he can sure fire everyone up for a short period of time.
we as jets fans are embarrassing ourselves and the rest of fans by even contemplating bringing this guy back. the last 4 years he was here were a joke, the end was embarrassing and the love for sancheezalini was absurd. he then went to buffalo and sucked there too. then he couldnt manage to get a job the past what 8 years. stop you sound like idiots championing for this buffoon. please stop doing it. the fact he is on tv all the time talking about it is absurd.
This team has been a bad heroin nod out for 15 years. I’ll take the figurative cocaine at this point.
So is every decision that has been made since Rex Ryan. What's the difference? At least I would have SOME fun out of the deal. Some entertainment as a fan. As sad as it is, that's all I'm looking for right now. Is a bump. We've been rock bottom for closer to two decades now. That's literally insane. I don't see how he makes things worse than they are at this point.
This bluster coming from the man who named Santonio Holmes team captain. Discipline mattered little that day.
The profile of the players Tanny picked from Mangini to Rex was just night and day. There’s no doubt Rex had a major hand in who was drafted. That’s because Tannenbaum was a numbers guy who had no clue on identifying talent, so he leaned heavily on the coaches.
I’m not defending Rex cause I agree he has his issues no doubt but I don’t think Santonio Holmes would ever blow off minicamp to party in Egypt
Rex is gonna sit down with Rodgers and tell him it’s gonna be his way or go retire and let the history of your legacy forever be tainted with what was the last 2 years. He’s the only one that could actually be the alpha personality needed to keep Rodgers in line and players respectful. If we’re keeping Rodgers, Rex is the right guy. Also won’t feel bad firing him in 2 years when it all blows up.
Why? I mean, let's face it. He couldn't close the deal and left the team worse off than when he found it AND he's sat around a whole decade becoming even LESS clued in to the league. He couldn't "fix" the Jets problems when he was here the first time so what makes you think he's going to fix it now? Final thought. I don't know if everyone is as angry AT Ryan as much as they are tired of all the bullshit that W. Johnson has been peddling these last 20 or so years and all Ryan promises to bring is a clown show. And, we've ALL had ENOUGH of the clown show.
He got to the playoffs two years in a row, made the AFCG two years in a row. Gave me a lot of joy during his era. We haven't had ANY success since. So don't talk to me about "closing the deal", we haven't even remotely sniffed the playoffs since. Left the team worse off? Is it his fault we've been absolute losers for 15 going on 16 years in a row now? That's nonsense to me. Wake me when someone else gets us remotely close to what he was able to achieve in those years. Until then, fuck this team. I'd take Rex back in a second.
We already had Rex since 2010 though, and Buffalo had Rex and he failed in both places after 2010. His success was 15 years ago. Then he was out of the League for many years. Sure the Jets failed since 2010, but so did he. He is a relic at this point, out of touch with NFL. There is a reason we are the only ones who are interviewing him. Time to move on.
It's worth remembering that getting to the first AFC championship game required a fuckton of lucky breaks. That was not one of the top four teams in the league.
It literally involved the Colts abandoning a perfect season and allowing the Jets to make the playoffs. Also glossed over when talking about that season is how bad they were in the. middle of the year. Lost 6 out of 7 games in the middle of the season, with that lone win during that stretch coming against Jamarcus Russell and Bruce Gradkowski in Oakland. By all means, if we have to have Rex back, bring him back as the hype man. Let him announce the player introductions and be involved in the media arm of the team if he loves the Jets as much as he says he does. Just don't let him coach the team. We've been there, we've done that, and it's time to move forward towards trying to end the playoff drought, not ensuring that it'll continue for another 3-4 years.
