If a coach knows how to play, why doesn't he just play himself? I am little surprised this keeps coming up: there is difference between understanding what it takes to get a good GM and being a good GM at this time himself.

Becsuse he doesn’t have the physical ability to play. If Tannenbaum doesn’t have the mental capacity to be a good GM, which he has already proven he doesn’t, then how do you expect him to have the mental capacity to pick a good GM? This goes in circles because you and Ralebird keep defending this fuckery. It’s so beyond absurd that it fits the Jets perfectly.

Not necessarily. We have examples of QB not succeeding or declining when they are still in physical prime. Doesn't mean they can't coach. Mental capacity is pretty complex concept. You may have good grasp what it takes, but might not be able to do it yourself. Like for example you can see Borganzi does a great job with lower picks, and say you know that he was the one who recommended a lot of these choices for KC due to in depth knowledge of team structure. But doesn't mean that you yourself can do it just as well.

Again in this example understand there is a difference in identifying someone who can make great say late round picks and doing it yourself. They are not asked to do it themselves, they are asked to identify someone who can. It's not the same thing.

Tannenbaum is not picking the GM, Woody Johnson is. Consultants consult

Consultants also heavily leverage their connections within their orbit to try to position the right candidates. Tannenbaum has worked in the media for a bunch of years and also has a ton of good football guys that used to work in the league within his company.

I’d rather have Woody hire a company like that and leverage those resources then have that fucknut try to do it all by himself.

Yes, indeed, "consultants consult." That appears to be a tough concept for some here to handle. Many consultants also do not consult in a vacuum - they work as a team. Who here has a problem with the forgotten man Rick Spielman? Who? Yeah, you know the guy who consulted with the Washington Commanders for a new head coach and general manager. The same Commanders who were wrapping up a 4 - 13 season a year ago and are now prepping for their first playoff appearance in five years and their first playoff win in 20. Who has a problem with that?

I mean Woody Johnson can just choose a GM himself like he did with Joe Douglas and keep him around for six seasons while amassing the worst record in Johnson's tenure here. Before that he used a headhunter firm and a couple of NFL relics to assist in hiring Idzik and MacCagnan who each rolled a .375 in their combined six years. What's the answer boys? Nothing works so just throw some names in a hat? Who's going to pick those names? Woody? Chris? Brick?

GM List. Now to me this list is a lot more solid than the HC one. Guys like Farmer, Borgonzi, Halaby, Greenberg have pretty decent track records and could be excellent hires. Even Brown and Dimitroff may not be bad, but I would prefer the former 4. I theorize that's because Spielman and Tanny want to make sure they identify a GM, who will be hired first, and then the GM will be a major player in the HC search. One scenario that might make sense is Greenberg and Coen. Once the Bucks are out of play-offs, both could be had. Farmer and Halaby also may be available soon. Borgonzi might be only after SB or at least AFC Championship game as KC are the favorites there.

It's part of the NFL expansion plan - Greenland Glaciers and Panama Diggers.

The only one in the league currently is Trent Baalke and he’s a disaster down in Jacksonville.
