Asking Aaron, do you think Woody would release you year end? A legitimate question? What would you expect AR or any player to say that adds any value what’s so ever? Idiotic filler question. Ask Woody is the perfect answer.

Another quote I picked up while watching Rodgers' conference is the questions about GW. Like why GW seems frustrated, and he basically said he wants the ball, and it is understandable, and he is always #1 or #2 in reads. I then went to see the targets since Davante joined.

I see Davante with 94 targets and GW 74. Let me know if like a Jets mathematician adding up Breece Hall's yards last year, I added up wrong:
    https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/16800/davante-adams
    https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/4569618/garrett-wilson

But it is certainly obvious that Adams is a clear #1 with 27% more targets that GW, and GW is clear #2. So, technically speaking, yes Rodgers is correct: GW may be #1 OR #2 in reads, but he is more #2 than #1. I think this needs to change. At least make it equal and really GW should be ahead. I mean Adams is an excellent player still, but GW needs to be the guy for this team. Now, I do not think that is disqualifying Rodgers from possibly returning, but it has to change if he does come back.

I listened to Pat's show, and Aaron did bring it up that he might be released, which frankly makes no sense - there are CAP implications, etc... The owner would never do it without a GM in place. It did sound a bit strange why a player would say that, so Dick's question was fair. The answer though I agree was perfect. I did not see anything wrong in this entire exchange from ether side.

If AR remains with the team next year, sure hope there is a much more rigorous check and balance between the OC and the QB and the game plan. Number one or number two receiver, I don’t care, you have to throw it to the wide open guy every time when the opportunity presents itself. We missed the boat a few times this year.

It's about the reads, you can't just through to wide open WR every time. You go through the reads and throw as soon as there is a reasonable target. It does not matter if a target down the list of progressions is more wide open, you won't get there. And it looks like Adams is #1 on the reads more often than not. I think they need to change that to GW more. I do agree with you, the new coach needs to be more rigorous about checks and balances. For instance, that 4th down call we discussed where Rodgers tried to throw a 25 yard fade to Adams on 4th down and 4 is something that either Rodgers should have moved on from Adams when he wasn't open or slant to GW should have been the 1st read as a much higher % play to gain 4 yards. I am not sure if this is 100% on Rodgers or coaching also, but this needs to be fixed next year like you said.

The question referred to is quoted directly by Jets Fan "Do you think Woody wants you back?" That is a perfectly legitimate question by a good reporter. Don't complain about a question that does not appear to have been asked. If you are talking about something else please quote it verbatim. That's what quotes are all about.

It makes a lot of sense. In fact, it makes more sense to release him than keep him imo and it’s not even close.
    1. I can’t see any competent GM wanting to come to NY immediately being restrained by a narcissistic 42 year old has-been QB who is constantly making negative headlines for your team every chance he gets.
    2. Same for a HC. They are going to want someone new and not elderly.
    3. He is old and terrible and will be even worse next year as he continues to get older and more terrible.
    4. He’s a rotten human being that infects negativity on an entire organization.
    5. Every single week he is doing something in the media that causes the rest of the nation to slam him and the jets. Who wants that constant cloud hanging over them? His play certainly is not worth it.
    6. He’s has proven he’s not the guy. Keeping him another year is guaranteeing another lost season.
    7. The cap hit doesn’t matter, teams are doing that to move on every year (Russell Wilson, Stefan Diggs, the browns will be doing this with Watson, etc). Bite the bullet and inject some hope into the organization.

His answer was extremely appropriate in either case. AR wouldn’t know what Woody is thinking anymore than Cimini. AR already went on record to say that there is a chance of being released in the Pat interview. So if that was a legitimate question, his was a damned perfect legitimate answer. That’s what answers are for.i failed to see the issue.

Rodgers started it all with his comments about Brick Johnson. He can keep his mouth shut, very easy to do so.

Then it’s likely a very boring press conference where they ask about the next game.

But see he doesn’t want that- for all his bitching about the media, he constantly wants to be discussed, even when the team is 4-10 or whatever

IMO, This should be the plan:

    1. Keep Aaron Rodgers
    2. Get an offensive minded coach and appropriate support staff
    3. Draft a QB in the first or 2nd round
    4. Have Rodgers start the year with the intention of eventually passing the torch to the new guy
    5. Sure up the defense by bringing in or drafting IDL, LB and DB.

That basically leaves next year open as a transitional year and gives the young guys some time to learn the new system. Worst case scenario, Rodgers has nothing left in the tank and the new guy starts halfway through the year with high draft pick potential. Best case scenario, Rodgers returns to form and brings the Jets to the playoffs and the heir gets to experience winning instead of losing on the Jets like most other rookies.

Either way I don't want another rookie QB thrown to the fire, it NEVER works out here. Let them sit for a year or so to absorb and learn the game. I feel that if Sam Darnold or Zach Wilson had that opportunity, they'd have done better.

They also MUST fix the defense, particularly against the run.

Yes indeed. He can’t keep his mounts shut….that is a fact for sure. In fact this whole team should keep his mouth shut, as it has become a collective embarrassment. But there is no such latitude in NY. The team stinks, the press is relentless for questions and news, and the real answer that should be given is we suck from the ownership, senior leadership, CS on down.

The point was releasing as soon as the season is over before getting new GM. That is just moronic because there needs to be a decision made on June 1 designation, etc, and there is simply no reason to rush. Also, while there may be a 90% or even higher probability new GM/HC won't want him, why not make sure it is definitely 100% by hiring them 1st? There is simply nothing to lose by keeping him until the new GM/HC comes and deciding then, but there is something to gain, like spreading CAP the way new GM wants (important point) and letting them make a decision on Aaron. So, yeah, I would be absolutely floored if Woody waives him along with FO before the new GM is here, even he is not that dumb.

The thing is, this class is very weak in QB. Even top two guys are to me not that great, and then there is a huge drop off from there. To me QB3 in this draft is not any better than Jordan Travis, whom I saw on the sideline and should be ready for the offseason program. QB3 in this draft is Jalen Milroe. Some even say he may be QB1. Is he any better than Jordan Travis? I am not sure, to me looks like same level. He actually regressed from the year before. What's the point of getting a guy like that with Travis already here? I understand if there is a top prospect, but if the prospect we can draft is Travis level, why waste a pick? We already lost a 3d rounder in Adams trade.
