I disagree. The #1 issue before firing Saleh was coaching. Our team was unprepared and our coaching staff was clearly kowtowing to Rodgers. Our offense was as bland as it gets and no one was being held accountable for mental errors (false starts, delay of games, etc…). . Saleh’s answer was always to deflect and simplify vs holding players accountable. I know some people disagree, but I go back to the players wearing Mike Fn White shirts in the locker room. I know Zach sucked, but there’s no way a guy like Dan Campbell or Mike Tomlin allows that shit in their locker rooms. Saleh was a fugaze, a total Beta personality wrapped in a body and outward persona that might make you feel otherwise, but players are not running through walls for him. That permeated throughout everything, the coaches and players. It didn’t go away when we fired Saleh because it’s woven into the mentaility of everyone in the room. Until we purge the entire staff and start over it’s gonna stay that way.

Exactly. It really wouldn't take much to go out there and be the best QB the Jets have had since Ryan Fitzpatrick.

It's also a pretty sad fact that Fitzpatrick is one of this franchise's all-time great QBs.

If this was not 9 years running you'd have a point. How many years of we skipped 2015? I think that's a crap hypothetical most of the time until it starts to span decades.

What are you celebrating? That the Jets have been crap for decades? Or that the Hall of Famer is just as bad as the guys who preceded him?

You're the only person who has brought up celebrating. You're exhausting man. I'm pointing out a fact, they have sucked at qb for decades, and that I don't think they will find a better stop gap next year.

They wont. Rodgers QB play is basically the second best QB play we have had since 2009. Only Fitzpatricks play in 2015 was better. Rodgers is 8th in TDs, 11th in yards, and close to the bottom for INTs. The one stat that they will harp on is QBR but based yards/tds/int Rodgers is in the upper half of the league, if not top 10. They wont find anyone to replicate what he is doing.

If Rodgers is willing to come back and accept his role as a QB I dont see what the issue is. Also the Jets have talent. The reason why the Jets have been in so many games despite the worst coaching in the history of the NFL is because of the talent. Teams without talent cant compete against the better teams in the league. The Jets basically beat the Bills who look like the best team in the AFC. If there was no talent we wouldnt have been able to even compete against them. The problem is the coaching which we all knew heading into the season.

I'm not celebrating; it's those who keep telling us how good Rodgers is who are. His team is 4 - 10; he's finished. What difference does it make that his history was better than the bums the Jets have had onboard? He never played against them.

Why are you concerned about next year anyway? It should just be a time to clean house and begin to move on to a new day, new administration, new coaching and a new future. Every dollar saved in the cap in 2025 can be used in 2026 while who is going to stay and who is leaving can be figured out. If you keep Rodgers another year why would you expect anything much better? And that way you only push the problem down the road another whole season.

No, you dont bring him back. He was given the keys to everything, they brought in every coach and every player he wanted and it has been a disaster.

cut ties with Rodgers after June 1. Tyrod Taylor can get 4 wins with the same roster and is 100X less of a pain in the ass

I'm starting to disagree with the Rodgers hate, to be honest.

    Passing Yards: 3255 (11th)
    TDs: 23 (7th)
    INTs: 8

And this is coming off a torn achilles with virtually no chemistry with the team.

If Jets fans saw these stats prior to the season they would think the Jets are in contention. 3:1 TD:INT ratio. This is actually best QB play that the Jets have had in what, 30 years? Yes, it is sad that the bar is set so low that mediocre / above average play warrants the best play in 20+ years, but Aaron Rodgers is clearly not the issue here. It may actually be worth running it back one more year now that they have had a chance to build some chemistry. I think a good offensive minded head coach can right this ship. I understand wanting to blow it up AGAIN, I'm just so tired of team resets every few years.

If any other QB put up those numbers I'd agree with you. But Rodgers is an organizational problem, and if you're an organizational problem, you need to be great, not just halfway decent.

I know people don't want to hear this but I feel we need to start drafting defense again.

No we don’t. We need to employ a DC that is creative and molds his D to the talents of his players, not try and force players to do what they’re not good at. Saleh’s D is basic aggression. No matter who is on the field, the philosphy and playcalling stay the same, that’s why a monkey coupd run it (by their own admission). This is why now 3/4 through the season absolutely nothing has changed on Defense. The philosphy doesn’t allow it. We have plenty of good to great defensive players each with unique skillsets. We need a DC that can adjust the D to exploit their skillset while not putting players in position to be asked what they physically and/or mentally can’t do.

I hear ya. I just think Woody Johnson is the organizational problem. He meddles in too much and makes absolutely brainless decisions (thinking is overated). The whole "Aaron Rodgers is running the team" bs never had any weight behind it. It was just fans jumping to conclusions, there was no demand list or anything like that. Saleh was fired without his knowledge and he was shocked by it.

Firing Saleh probably cost them multiple games, no coincidence the defense took a big step back when the DC was forced to be head coach for no reason. Think about it. If they don't fire Saleh, and Greg the leg doesn't fall apart, the team probably has 4-5 more wins.

I think a 3:1 TD to pick ratio is great and has never been sniffed by any Jet QB since Pennington. Don't get me wrong, by his standards he could be better, but at this point he is playing pretty decently and it's moreso the players around him who are making the most mental mistakes.

Agreed. They at minimum need another big body in the middle to help Q and another linebacker to replace Mosley. They could probably use another corner & safety as well, depending. I am happy moving forward with our current DEs, JJ & WMD, however.

That's the point that many people are overlooking.

Right now, the Jets are seeking a new GM and HC, and they need to get these hires right. If the plan is for Rodgers to return next season, that will only hamper the ability to hire the right GM and HC. Rodgers isn't an ordinary player; he comes with a lot of baggage.

It's going to be tough enough for the Jets to attract first-rate candidates with options because of Woody's reputation as a meddler and his track record of failure. Add Rodgers' baggage, and do you really expect candidates with options to want to come here?

Look at the baggage that could deter first-rate candidates:

    1. The Jets organization has handed the keys to the kingdom to Rodgers and catered to his every whim. If he returns next year, there's no reason to believe that will change;

    2. We can debate how much Rodgers has left in the tank, but we all have to admit that he is no longer the player he once was; and

    3. Even under the best of circumstances, Rodgers is a very difficult personality to deal with.

When the Jets interviewed Dimitroff and Robinson, I'll bet that in the first five minutes of the interview, they asked if the organization plans to bring Rodgers back next season. I'll also bet that the organization's answer to that question will have a major impact on their interest in the job.

It sounds like Woody is done with Rodgers anyway… it may be a moot point

Crazy, but with those stats, it’s even possible he can hit 4000 yards passing…I think the only Jet to do that was Namath, right? And of course in 1967 when he did it the season was only 14 games…

I'll believe that Woody is done with Rodgers when he gives Hackett the boot.
