Amazon does a really good job considering these are print-on-demand books. It makes self-publishing a possibility. Not that long ago I would have needed to pay a small fortune for a small print run and then handle shipping myself. It wasn’t really feasible.
I'm on the other side of the literary planet writing fiction, to varying degrees of effectiveness. Developing good writing habits is proving to be painful, but I'm doing it.
If I could give one piece of advice to anyone writing, it would be to buy and read The War of Art, by Steven Pressfield. It completely turned me around as a writer. I was the typical journalist dreaming of being a novelist, with at least 20 unfinished books on my hard drive, none of them more than 12,000 words long. I read The War of Art and then I wrote three 80,000-word novels in two years. I’m not saying they are good, but they are written. And that was a direct consequence of reading that book, which showed me so clearly what had been happening before.
This is an excellent read so far. Very impressive. I've read at least a dozen or so self-published works over the past few years, and most (not all) are somewhat ragged and really would benefit from professional editing. Not this. You really know what you're doing. Well done.
I plan to start reading next weekend, but I just flipped it open and the first line I read mentioned Studio 54. LOL
I have posted copies out to Rich Eisen and Jake Asman, as well as Ken himself - all due to be delivered in the next couple of days. I have hopes that Jake will give it some coverage, I doubt Rich will, and I don't even know if Ken still works at the place I sent his copy... but I live in hope!
I was given a great plug by Jake Asman in his show yesterday! I really appreciate him talking about the book and with any luck it will lead to a few sales.
David I owe you a review, but it's talking some time to work up some interest in Jets related anything. They didn't do you any favors this season.
No hurry on that, I totally understand. Finishing off this book was a lot more fun than watching the Jets stumble their way through another season. I think I need to plan a new book for next year...
I would be taking advantage of the current TV program and seeing if you can make a top book about the Sack Exchange. I wrote one on Bellycheat's success with the Jets as HC
Glad things are going well. Your name is almost generic - did you consider a nom de plume? Something relatable both to young and old Jets fans, perhaps? I think Nathanial Namath has a nice ring to it. Try that with your Gastineau bio.
Pen names are not really a thing in non-fiction, but I use one for my fiction. Mostly because it is so embarrassing I wouldn't want anyone to know it is me. Nat Namath is a good name, though
