What? You’re the one saying that Woody makes shitty hires because he doesn’t have as many owner friends as everyone else.

So show me an instance where owners have conversations about who to hire or who not to hire.

I'm saying that's what I believe is part of the problem. You can believe whatever you want but if you think the opposite is true, that he is right on top of what the most successful teams in the league are doing, I'd love to see the basis for those thoughts. We know for a fact that some owners socialize and have even had marriages between families; we don't know that about Johnson.

he never said the opposite is true. The only one concerned with Woodys friends appears to be you

I'm concerned about Woody's friends. One of them is about to butt-rape our country.

I never said he believed the opposite was true, I asked if he did.

Okay, I'll clarify for you, and anyone else interested. It would be extremely simplistic for anyone to believe that the sole reason for Johnson's inability to find the right people to fill the GM and HC positions at the Jets would be his circle of friends. On the other hand, I firmly believe that much of what we learn from all areas of life comes in circumstances other than those where learning is the main purpose. To take that a step farther, I do believe that people learn things at dinner and on the golf course, for instance that have absolutely nothing to do with eating or knocking a little ball around the grass.

Now a question for you - do you think if two NFL team owners play tennis together or have lunch afterwards they never talk about anything football related?

weird question. They might talk football or the weather or compare the size of their….. rackets.

I don’t care at all what they talk about at tennis party dinners

Most of us knew hiring Adam Gase was a bad idea and we didn’t need to suck down oysters at a country club in South Beach with Steven Ross to do that math.

Great, but we didn't get to decide on hiring Gase. Do you think Robert Wood Johnson IV called Stephen Michael Ross before hiring Adam Gase?

I don’t care and I’m not answering that because it’s irrelevant. And you’ve dragged your 4,000th thread into an abyss of nonsense.

You have zero evidence to back your claims that owners give each other advice that actually matters on hiring. Especially division rivals.

Why is this like pulling teeth? I care that the owner of the team I have followed for over sixty years makes lousy decisions about that team based on what I perceive is a lack of information about the business he is in. I believe that his apparent lack of strong ties to others in that business is part of that lack of information.

Actually, you are wrong. I know for a fact from a witness to the conversation that two NFL owners, while playing a recreational sport, discussed the firing of one of their key employees. I will not compromise the identity of that witness but will state that at least one of the parties mentioned here was either party to that conversation or the subject of it.

If networking is somehow not of value in the NFL, it is an even more unique business than I could have imagined.

"Woody loves parties." If he does, he should stop limiting himself to those populated by accountants.

Dude what is wrong with you? I never changed my tune, I know Tannenbaum is not the GM. I never said he was. You’re so emotional I swear I’m starting the think you’re Tannenbaum. If you are, you sucked as the Jets GM and I have no confidence that you have any idea how to spot what it takes to be a good GM.

How 'bout Spielman? 16 year GM, 132-123-2 record with the Vikings. Even when he got canned, he had 7-9 and 8-9 seasons, which are not awful. 5 in a row non losing seasons before that with 3 play-offs appearances, 2 wins, conf finals. Not long out of the League, helped Washington last year turn things around in the same role as now. Even if you are not sold on Tanny, it's a good thing Spielman is involved. Can we logically speaking agree on that?

    What the hell is this?

None of this is responsive to what I wrote. What is "emotional" about what I wrote? We all know Tannenbaum is not the Jets GM - who claimed you said he was? Where is this "front page" you say argues the merits of Tannenbaum?

Tell us how you expect the organization to hire the key people they need if you don't want the owner to do it alone and you don't want him to hire consultants.

How do you want the Jets to hire a General Manager and Head Coach?
