I am just curious how much they charge for this service, hiring 2 failed gm's to tell you which coach to hire and gm to hire you isn't a upgrade of what Woody has been doing. Now if they hired parcells, Saban or Caroll or someone who is widely respected now theres a idea. "Hey Parcells, let us use your contacts, heres 2 million dollars help us find a coach and a gm and you can go back to fishing, now theres a better idea. I bet anything Tannebaum owes Rex a favor or 2 and will put him on top of the list.

Actually, my reading comprehension would be much higher than yours because only I know the Wikipedia page you quote is wrong.
Bridgewater was unequivocally and objectively a bust. He was never a franchise qb and never did anything for them.

Winning Rookie of the Year doesn't make you a bust. Zach Wilson was a bust. Learn the difference.

Well, just like Tannenbaum the guy is a failed GM. We’re literally hiring failures to be the experts at hiring someone to do the job they were failures at. This is mind numbingly stupid.

What did you expect from Woody? He'll never get it right because he is a moron.

Spielman was a GM for 10 years. That's a pretty good run. I definitely wouldn't call it "a failure."

Either way, the point is that anyone is better than Woody. Tanny/Spielman wouldn't have been my #1 choices to help lead our search but they're objectively better than Woody and have wide networks they can draw input from.

Tannenbaum and Spielman will present Woody with a list of candidates, but it's Woody who will chose the one he hires. In other words, it still comes down to Woody. As I noted earlier, all roads lead to Woody.

I wouldn't mind hiring Pete Carroll as an advisor to help with the GM search, but last I heard he is still an advisor for Seattle. I am not sure he can be hired for the similar role by another team. Usually to hire off another team you need to give a HC or GM role. I haven't heard of an NFL team hiring an advisor of another team for the same role. I also don't know if Carroll would even be interested in something like that. So, it seems like he wasn't even available for the advisory role.

Onto who we actually hired. I reject the premise that Tanny and Spielman are terrible GMs. They both have solid GM record and both have >.500 winning %, numerous play-off appearances, not that many losing seasons. So, while it is certainly easy to say that they made some bad draft picks, and therefore terrible GMs, the overall record suggest otherwise. Particularly Spielman who was a GM for Minny for 16 years. The fact they were successful GMs is not really debatable given their record.

As far as why not hire one of them, GM is a very powerful and important position. It is not just about being smart. You have to the run entire football operation, stay on top of your game all the time, draft, trade, sign FAs, do waiver pick-ups, get coaches, thrive under pressure, and ultimately produce results. Towards the end of their tenures I am not sure if they had all of these areas in the perfect shape, and the results were not great last two years, even though not terrible either. Plus they have been out of NFL GM or assistant GM jobs for a few years and I would prefer someone who is currently a highly ranked personnel executive, ideally a younger man with a lot of potential.

Where you seem to be off though is that these guys do not need to be the best GMs RIGHT NOW. They need to understand what it takes to be a successful GM, have connections, and have the ability to interview and vet prospective GMs. These guys are a good fit for that role, especially Spielman. In fact, Spielman just did this last year, and it seems to have worked. He also routinely interviews prospective GMs and coaches, they come to him for advice. Listen to the podcast below. Spielman has massive connections and I think can really help the Jets here hire the right guy.

It doesn't matter how the process is structured. At the end of the day, they're going to screw this up worse than they've ever managed to do so in the past.

As the Jets continuously prove to us, it can always be worse.

Yeah it'll be 30 years next year since we had a 1 win season, so were due.

They are consultants. They are advisors. The articles posted here and elsewhere make that quite clear.

Guys, she is an accountant, salary CAP expert, an administrator. She is not on current NFL team working closely with a top NFL GM day in and day out on the operations, where she can help replicate that GM's success. To me this type of candidate is at the bottom of the list. Maybe as an assistant, but not the head of operations right away. Whoever comes in here, whether man or a woman. needs to come here on merit. Ideally from scout background, but I can probably make an exception for someone like Alec Halaby with analytics background, but has been around Howie Roseman his entire life.

Of course, I mean he is the owner. The goal is to present him with a short list of good people where he cannot go wrong. There are some good candidates out there, hopefully Spielman and Tanny can give him a list to interview of good people, where his random selection will hit.

The Jets need a football czar with league connections and a sound business practice. Constantly going through guys that spent half their career sleeping in their car in between college trips like Macc and Douglas isn't getting the job done. She will have the right connections to get the football guys in house. She came up with Parcells and Belichick.

Edit: btw, both Macc and Douglas left some really big names on the table during their drafts so the idea that you have to have a personnel guy in that role isn't really swaying me. Mike Tannenbaum used to be a tax lawyer.
