If you had to pick ONE PRIMARY reason this season unfolded this way...

The defense went from being really good against the run to unable to stop the run.

Ah, I don't know. The entire football draft world had Zach right there too. I'll agree only if there were documented draft boards with Zach rated way way down as in, not in the first round, and also that those same teams' guys would have passed on him had they needed a QB when their turn came. Has Justin Fields been that much better? I've said here several times before, it's a systemic NFL problem to over-rate then overpay QB's. And, most come out of college too early. We see it all over not just JD. One could argue the Darnold pick was worse since we traded draft capital to get to that draft spot.

So I disagree, Coaching makes the front office look good as much as the other way around.

This analogy and victimization implication doesn't even make current context sense imo. If anything it just further highlights how childishly silly a lot of smart Jets fans can come off at times when they simply refuse to ever own being embarrassingly wrong about anything/everything imo (because i do think outside anything Rodgers related you have a lot of intelligent takes). Being success starved as a franchise doesn't ultimately justify a fanbase championing bad decision making as it's happening imo. It just makes them a better example of fanbase mirroring their own desperate to be relevant owner.

Like what makes *you* a victim in this? Other the Mike Williams signing I don't don't recall you pushing back much on pretty much any of the stupid line of justification thinking a lot of fans are now trying to distance themselves from by claiming the "all in on Rodgers" disaster was a "Woody's fault" thing. Here, if we are going to generalize out a more fitting analogy let's vaguely borrow from a random political setting atm:

If you spend the last year+ wearing the hat/buttons, putting the signs up in the front yard, cheering on the rallies, wildly celebrating the acquisition "win", and all the while vehemently arguing against anybody who dared point out the blatant underlying ugliness factors of the whole thing driving the counter belief that this was always most likely to end very badly....in my book you rightfully forfeit your seat at that "F that guy and those decisions that were made" pity party if/when it all goes to sh*t latter :)

You wanted and ultimately threw your support behind this outcome result. No amount of after-the-fact finger pointing elsewhere actually changes that.

It's Joe D's job to be able to evaluate talent and have a plan to build the roster regardless of what the draft boards say. He obviously can't evaluate QB talent to save his life. That's been established. Not one coach or FO person in the Jets building has a clue about top level QB'ing in the NFL.

Joe Douglas could've easily turned that lottery pick into several lottery draft picks and build the lines and team but he chose to draft Zach Wilson. You make it sound like he had no choice but to draft Wilson. It was a bad QB draft class, just like 2025 is going to be. It doesn't mean a team with a high pick and shitty QB has to pick a QB. That's the difference between a good GM and a total outclassed schmo like JD.

Zach Wilson played at a non-power conference school against weak comp and shitty defenses. He also had accuracy issues coming out of college which is the ultimate red flag and death for any QB. Those two items right there and the eye test tell anyone all they ever need to know about Wilson. He was charmin soft coming out. Then he goes to a QB guru coach in Denver in Sean Payton and gets ample chances to win the job and shits the bed.

You can blame it on the so called draft sites/boards and pundits but an NFL GM is supposed to be better than that and JD has mostly failed in the quality and quantity of his picks.

Idunno what you’re talking about dude and quite frankly I don’t really give a shit. 95% of your posts are just bloviating about the fact that you were right about Rodgers being a shitty decision.

I don’t feel like a victim or act like one. The Jets and football are a hobby for me. Over the last decade+ of ineptitude I’ve learned to like football without it being tied to the Jets. A Jets loss doesn’t ruin football for me, so I don’t really care. Not to mention it was just a joke.

But you’re insinuating a bunch of fans who act like fans are somehow complicit in the Jets failures like this is a RICO case or something lol. It’s just dumb.

Probably the most correct answer to the OP question is actually the Aaron Rodgers injury 5 seconds into the 2023 season.

If he'd played healthy all last year, built rapport with teammates, avoided the Zach Wilson demoralization tour/waste of time, had no rust to shake off coming into 2024 etc etc etc. I'm pretty confident things would be going differently right now.

There are a lot of other sub optimal factors to point to obviously but that probably is "the" singular biggest problem that the whole 2024 thing has gone so badly. The coaching staff being extremely weak as a group is probably in 2nd place.

On another note, since I find your poorly drawn inferences unbelievably annoying, here are some things I posted during that offseason.

Here’s my thread on Reddick; https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/jets-trading-for-haason-reddick.100055/

    Here’s what I thought about Lazard: https://forums.theganggreen.com/thr...rs-44mil-22mil-guaranteed.98806/#post-4307583

    Absolutely Joe Douglas.

Not only is he responsible for each and every player on the roster, the same is true for each and every coach and the entire support staff. His position at the Jets is to be the leader of all football operations. As the highest ranked football person in the organizational chart he is charged with everything along the way to winning games. That means he must not only create a team that wins games but must also protect against allowing all other people and circumstances to promote ideas that are detrimental to the goal of winning regardless of who or what those forces may be.

The team is a loser. It is on Douglas.

    The one reason?

Retaining Saleh and Douglas at the end of last year. I said it way back in January and I've stuck to it ever since then. The Jets punted on the season when they did that. Any chance they had of being a playoff team and accomplishing all of the things they couldn't stop talking about all offseason vanished when Woody made the decision to retain them. And that's backed up by the disaster of an offseason that Douglas went on to have that buried any further chance that remained of this team being anything other than the complete disaster they've been this season.

I think I gotta blame the GM. We had a LEGIT defense that carried Zach Wilson to a better record and we let crucial pieces of that defense walk out the door.

Because we didn't fire Saleh and JD after last season, which means ownership.

This is a good point and something we don't talk about enough.

We haven't had a true identity as a team in forever. That falls largely on coaching but the mercenary thing plays a big role too. Our players don't come up through the league together. They don't relate to each other. They don't develop culture together. We have young players who are inexperienced and old ones who need to adjust to our bad coaches and only come here to cash in one more time before retiring. The old guys are also inherently less hungry.

Overall, the organization lacks the ability to view the system as a whole. We don't think about second-order effects and how our actions fit into the big picture. Woody considers the direct consequence of an action but doesn't consider the consequence of that consequence.

    The reason? Pandering

Douglas originally Pandering to Woody and giving up two seconds for Rodgers so that Woodys ego could be massaged on national tv and he could be hailed for landing Rodgers.

Then Pandering again when Salah was fired and the plan was to go with some unknown element as the head coach.

    All the Pandering to Rodgers
    - fact he is on the kickers YouTube gig weekly
    - Hackett is still in place
    - Hazard, Adams and whoever else we signed at his insistence
    - His play calling and execution, his cadence, his changing everything at the los
    - His slow slow pace of play
    - His magical drugs in the off season
    - The fact (it appears to me anyway) that none of the beat writers have seriously questioned his role in all this
    - The fact other players just pander to him as well, a fuctional locker room dosent allow his charade to continue unchecked

The ability of the fanbase to pander to the organisation.

Everywhere you look, someone is Pandering to someone else's ego. No successful organisation can ever be run that way.

So if the answer isn't Pandering then it is definitely the ethos that runs through the organisation/building on a daily basis. Until that ethos changes, we are all pissing in the wind
