Do we even want Rodgers for next year?

    It seems that Rodgers is extremely toxic, none of our core players are better this yr

    You tell him hes not in charge of anything anymore. Whoever comes in is now in charge. If Rodgers does not like it then he can leave.

    Whoever the Jets hire need to lead and hold this team accountable, including Rodgers.

    It can still happen. When Denver lost to Indy it was OVER for Peyton in Denver. Fans didn't want him back, he looked awful, was booed off the field, etc

    Despite all that they changed coaching staff and put it together and won the Super Bowl, even with Peyton not contributing to much but just managing the games.

    He's a future HOF QB.

    As long as he has gas left in his tank yes a million times yes.

    McCaffrey is also extremely valuable as an all around player. Breece is nowhere near his value

    Assuming the team has a winning season, I would say yes... But draft a QB early in the draft.

    Honestly I hope we do have the option of him at QB next year. Not because it wouldn't come with big questions or concerns, but this isn't a particularly strong QB draft class, we don't have anybody waiting in the wings, and don't know who they could target via free agency.

    Somebody
    has to play QB in 2025.

    He's shown plenty of flashes of good play and is still by far the best QB play we've had since Fitz in 2015. If this team played with better fundamentals (probably will take a new regime) you can definitely win with Rodgers at this age.

    But they do need to draft a QB fairly high next year and see if Jordan Travis shows you anything. Have to think more seriously about the future at QB

    That to me is the main point: someone has to play QB next year. Rodgers is basically playing right now like Fitz was in 2015. Which is slightly below average, but not terrible. And who knows, he might actually do a little better even as the season progresses (or worse), let's see. For 15 our of last 16 years (except 2015) after 2008 season, we had the worst QB play in the NFL, and often by a wide margin compared to second worst. In 2015 and now we have a little below average. This is a major upgrade for 15 out of last 16 seasons. So, basically, Rodgers to me is the absolute minimum for next year. If we can get someone better, sure. But I do not want to go back to having the #32 rated QB again. So, if no one better is available, keep Rodgers.

    As far as drafting another young QB, let's see who is there. I don't want to commit to one unless we feel that the guy is really special, and I am not sure there will be one where we pick. We just picked Jordan Travis. Granted it was in the 5th, but again depending on where we pick and a weaker draft class, there may not be a much better option. I mean Travis was 5th in Heisman, ACC player of the year, 44 passing TDs against 7 picks, plus 14 rushing TDs and a dual threat in a tough conference over last two seasons, 24 games: he is not some scrub. The injury is a concern, so we will have to see about that, and he never had cannon of an arm, but he got a red shirt season, and frankly I want to see where he is at next season before just picking a prospect high, who may not be much better.

    You keep him next year, but they have to look to the future as well. Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of next year's quarterback class right now.
    I'm kind of curious what the other college football and draft enthusiasts think about that topic as well.

    ..but, yeah. I definitely would prefer, If we do go with a rookie QB, to allow him the opportunity to sit and learn. Having a credible QB for the season Is the play though.

    Looking to the future should have a lot more to do with getting good and competent offensive coaching in the building then concerning ourselves with who the next kid QB you are going to bring in from the draft to hopefully save the day is going to be.

    Get that right first, and I mean ACTUALLY GET IT RIGHT FOR A CHANGE, and then worry about who the QB of the future is going to be.

    Good competent offensive coaching that keeps Hackett and his offense? Or good competent offensive coaching tasked with having to convince a 41 yo Rodgers to learn their playbook for a season? Are we drafting a QB for the future for this good competent offensive coaching staff or just telling them we’ll see how it goes after a season with Rodgers?

    Yes, Rodgers is going to have to learn new play book, like Brady did in Tampa. I am sure new coach will incorporate a lot of the things Rodgers is good at too. But I don't really see him learning new plays as a definite impossibility like you are implying.

    As far as QB of the future, we already have Travis, who has some potential, let's see who is available in the draft. I don't want to draft one just to draft one. Even if we don't though, with Rodgers and Travis here, I think we have a talented young QB on the roster and I would not pick another one in a weaker class next year unless I see a major upgrade there in talent.

    Like i keep saying unless Rodgers gets a bug up his butt about wanting to end his career playing elsewhere (like the Colts for example) the foundation of 2025 is basically already set in stone for most part imo.

    Looking to the future starts in 2026. Only then should we be talking about the possibility of drafting an upper round QB imo. And even that realistically might be too early if we still can't get that 2026 fresh OC room hire right.

    When Rodgers first walked in the door the speculation was it was for one year. He actually spoke about it and said he felt he had 2 years, maybe 3. That was before his achilles injury. You’re talking about a guy that takes retreats to Costa Rica or wherever for Ahuasca sessions, who goes to Egypt during mandatory camp, who entertained being and Independent party VP candidate. That’s the guy you’re banking on being here to learn a new playbook. In 5 years after this season Rodger’s tenure as a Jet will be as significant a memory as Joe Namath playing for the Rams. He’ll be remembered as one of the best ever and get into the HoF sleepwalking. McAfee will interview him and say “hey remember those last couple years with the Jets” and Rodgers will say “who???”. He already looks old af as a player and a person. He’s nothing like Tom Brady physically. The guy can make $30m in a year sponsoring his own Turmeric and Yohimbe root pills, why take a beating for it? He’s not fully committed to football this year, why would he be next year?

    So that’s who Rodgers is. Now all that aside, you need to convince a top tier Offensive mind to come here and scrap his top tier offensive schemes and commit to what Rodgers wants? Teach an entire offense a scheme that doesn’t even represent what they actually want to run for 1 year, only to then reteach their actual offense the following season when Rodgers is gone. Let’s not forget this is for a Rodgers who missed a season for his achilles, had a poor season his final year in GB, and basically at best can be described as inconsistent this year. Yes, please line up all you offensive geniuses, I’m sure we’ll have clawmarks on the doors from all the best and brightest minds to come here. Oh let’s not forget this is also to work for an owner that Belicheck has gone in weekly rants about what a clown show the guy puts on. Yeah, no. Not happening.

    The only way you’re going to see Rodgers playing here next season is if we hire a defensive coach that’s willing to keep Hackett and co, hired by a GM that doesn’t care that we’ve cut his balls off day one by saddling him with Rodgers and a limited coaching pool. And even then, Rodgers still might up and decide to retire anyway even if we do that.

    Saleh is gone. JD’s contract is up as of the end of the last game of the season. D Adams contract is structured for he and the Jets to easily terminate the contract after this season. Hassan Reddick will be gone. Tyron Smith, Morgan Moses, and John Simpson will all be replaced. All the aogns point to the structuring of everything that this year is do or die. Woody is acting like a petulant reactive child right now, because he likely knows this was the last chance. I can’t fathom how people are ignoring all of these signs simply thinking Rodgers will be back because he wants the money. He nearly retired 3 years ago. $30m is nothing to him, he can make that doing discount doublecheck commercials for a few months on location in Tahiti.

    I don't see a connection between Ahuasca and not learning a new play book. I also don't see how RFK considering him for a VP and him not doing it because he loves football more as any indication of learning or not learning new plays. These are irrelevant points. As far as missing mandatory 2 days camp, yeah I agree he was being a diva there, but he did attend all voluntary stuff, which he didn't have to, and again I just don't see how this suggests he doesn't want to learn the playbook. In essence, you are massively overreaching to come to a conclusion that is simply not there.

    Now as far as "banking", you don't need to bank. You hire a new GM and coach 1st in Jan/Feb. You don't need to pick up his option then. Then conversation can take place with Rodgers part of which will be the new offense. And if you don't get warm and fuzzy about him doing it, you can release him with post June 1 designation, no issues there. The point is: every player will need to learn new system, and that includes Rodgers. There is absolutely no indication to think that if he does stick around, he won't do it.
