Like the rest of the 2022 class, he has never reached the potential that he flashed early. He's the one that gets the most excuses and many of them are valid, but I also think he has the most breakout potential still. He's tough but not tough enough to overcome his slight frame, he gets knocked off his routes way too easily and as such they should never have him on the LOS. That means he can't effectively play X receiver so it limits his effectiveness and he can never fully play that # 1 receiver role. Whether or not the excuses for him are valid, he always needs them. Overrated? Yes.
If you have unrealistic expectations for him to be Randy Moss, then yes. I still think he's a very good player, with potential to get better.
If he is overrated, its not in a big way. For a while it seemed like he might be able to be a good #1. But I think he's shown to be a great #2 more than a good #1. Still a great weapon to have.
Wilson is really good although I think he’s leaving yards on the field every time he dives for a ball…either he really has to or he does it naturally when I feel like he shouldn’t. But he’s starting to get into the groove now I feel.
I think he's just anticipating the ball being thrown at his feet. Brady did that for years, it minimizes picks when you throw it at the shoelaces of the intended receiver. The problem arises when your QB is 40 and has broken legs and is petrified of throwing picks and ending his career looking like your typical interception machine.
I don't believe he is overrated at all. I believe the opposite. He is not being utilized correctly, he has not been developed correctly, and like the Jets always do, they are wasting one of the few good players that they managed to draft.
out of all the 4 in Joe Douglases only good draft out of 6 years and all the hype they got, I say he is the least overrated. Now Sauce, JJ and Breece are grossly overrated. Garrett will be a 1000+ yard receiver for many years to come. He has average( yes the great Rodgers is average at best at this point of his career) or below average qbs his entire tenure here and still put up good numbers, now imagine when he flees the Jets in 2 years and goes plays with a Mahomes or a capable Qb? I am sorry but he can't wait to flee this clown show, he has shown up every qb that ever threw to him and knows hes in a terrible situation.
The truly sad and horrifying thing about all of this is that they are all pretty good players, and all have regressed since coming into the league. And based on other empirical evidence with this organization, that is not because they are not what we thought they were. It is absolutely about the organization that drafted and "developed" them.
I dont think he's overrated at all. He's on his way to his 3rd straight 1,000 yard season. Under no circumstance would any other player who started their career like that be considered overrated
Garrett wilson's best game as a Jet today, guy has played with nothing but bum quarterbacks( yes AR included) and put up good numbers. Imagine what he will do one day with a good quarterback? It must suck when your this good and the rest of the team is this bad, no wonder why he is always showing people up.
One of his best overall games as a pro tonight imo, but agreed. Still not sold the mental makeup is there to ever be consistently great. He needs to be able string a lot more games like that together, without all the hair pulling moments mixed in, before i can get there.
