He has missed 4 field goals just in the last 3 games. And that's not even mentioning the missed game winner 2 weeks earlier.
I hope not, we need him right now for the tank. I have full confidence in the guy to step up and lose a few more games to improve our draft position.
The crazy thing is, as many problems as this team has, with better kicking alone, they'd be 5-3. With imperfect but half decent kicking, 4-4. Totally different season right now (likely setting us up for disappointment later than earlier).
Yes…he’s cost us at least 3 games…if he makes the extra point and FG yesterday we win. Same with the Denver game…we lose 10-9 after he misses a makeable FG No idea what the fuck has happened to him as he was solid last couple of years but whatever it is, he’s cooked.
This Zuerlein situation is what sums up the Jets franchise in spectacular fashion. This was an identified problem long ago but it goes completely unaddressed and has cost us multiple games and now the season. Granted, the whole team is playing like crap but even considering that wins were left on the table due to kicking. The NFL kicker is in a precarious position because his performance can and does impact winning and losing in the most direct way. Teams just don't tolerate long term poor performance at this position for this reason. Can you envision any other franchise taking this long to fix such an easily correctable problem? I get a bad week or two but these issues have lingered since the preseason. This falls directly at the feet of Joe Douglas. I also question the "accountability" Ulbrich was supposed to bring with his comments defending Zuerlein after last week's debacle. When performance doesn't matter you get 2-6. Players like Rodgers and Adams or anyone else can't turn this culture around. If they cut Zuerlein this week it's too little too late like everything else about this (scam)chise called the Jets.
While the flaws of this team are WAAAAAAY deeper than the kicker, and a true contender shouldn't need to depend on the kicker to beat the worst teams in the league, the JETS would probably be 4-4 if this guy wasn't sucking balls, and what kind of message is being sent by trotting this dude back out? Can his replacement be much worse?
Greenbay brought McManus in 2 weeks ago while the jets did nothing, he has been perfect for them, that’s the difference between a competent organization and a dysfunctional one
He couldn't start for a power 5 contender with this season's performance. 0-1 from beyond 50.1-for-4 from 40-49 yards. 4-6 from 30-39. That's just grotesque.
Worse? I bet I can go right now to a youth soccer game and pick a guy who with a few days of practice will do better. Seriously though, statistically is this the worst kicker performance in NFL history with number of attempts/games and still be on NFL roster? Don't take me wrong, I actually want him to stay now that the tank is on, precisely because he is incompetent, but this is laughable at this point. It's been laughable for the past month actually. Heck, given the reports from training camp how much better Siebert was, for several months.
For the same reason Douglas let Zach ruin last season. In Douglas's mind, he can never be wrong about anything, so he definitely can't be wrong about Zach and now Zuerlein.
it's now Monday going into a short week, why does Greg Zurlein still have a job? Seems like last year all over again except now its the kicker instead of Qb
this alone proves Ulbrich is a imbecile, seems like his mentor with the Zack Wilson situation Jeff Ulbrich: I don't regret sticking with Greg Zuerlein
Ulbrich doesn't sign or cut players, that's the GM's job. Ulbrich has to go to work with the kicker provided. This is on Joe Douglas
Got my answer: The worst in 10 years with this many attempts. He is really on thin ice now! If keeps doing this all season, he may not even get an extension. https://nypost.com/2024/10/27/sports/jets-greg-zuerlein-on-thin-ice-after-latest-kicking-calamity/
Actually, his failure may be a good thing. If this team was 5-3 or even 4-4 they might consider putting the dynamite away.
