He isn't the problem but he isn't the same player he was anymore and can't elevate a bad roster. Considering we will clean the house after this year, do we even plan around Rodgers or say Adios to thim? I know this decision will belong to the new GM and HC but if you were the new GM how would you proceed?
Absolutely not. Only way he’s back is if he has zero say in coaches and we somehow just miss on a QB. Sad to say, it’s a young man’s game. He just can’t move well enough. Too easy to defend.
absolutely not Rodgers back= we gotta bring Hackett back, dude is average quarterback at best at this point which don't warrant his huge salary. Time to convince him to retire.
The cap thing isn't my forte so I don't know but we will be hit financially big time regardless if we keep him or dump him. It is clear next 2-3 years will be down years in Jetsland so it doesn't matter. I say let Rodgers go, trade any player that can bring you multiple picks and let the new GM build thru the draft.
Rodgers isn't going anywhere until 2026 with that contract. It's just too much money to eat. JD rolled the dice bringing him in and crapped out.
I'm not there yet with Rodgers unless it's a trade that's worth it. The Jets main issues is coaching and the org. I don't think it's a lack of talent offensively. The team is such an absolute mess nobody could save them. This is depressing that this is their best case scenario
I mean, it depends. Will the exorcism cleanse the front office and the owner, thereby installing a system with coaches that know how to game plan? Then sure. He's probably got enough to keep the team in contention with some kind of motivated group of players and an actual game plan in place. But all kidding aside, I would much rather blow the whole thing up, start over, and get started on the next 5-7 years of ineptitude.
No no way. He needs to retire. Sadly I think it’s going to get ugly when the next GM asks him too maybe there will be some team as dumb as the Jets are that will give us something for him, that would be a nice way to split. The Raiders do dumb shit. That would be my first call
I didn't want him in the first place. I was content, waiting to see the team being built, even after the Zachscapades. There wasn't a need to give away important draft capital, for the fossils the team imported. Woody does it again & again, IMHO, for headlines. He's never learned to surround himself with knowledgeable football people, to build an organization from the top down. Woody's so clueless, he's not aware enough to pay attention to how the Mets, his fellow billionaire is doing it. At this point, I wouldn't mind seeing Tannenbaum brought in to build a competent football operation. He's still relatively young, he has green blood in him, & he stays current with his ESPN gig. .
Hearing boos from Jets fans in his final games of the season will probably be enough for Rodgers to retire this season.
I don't think he retires, but this experiment is over. The injury last year killed this entire thing. He can't move at all. Think about our best game offensively -- week 3 vs the Pats. Rodgers was rolling out and making plays out of the pocket all night.
Decent OL plus even his pre-injury mobility and things could be different. That’s not where we’re at, though. I’m tired of Rogers. I’ve been tired of Rogers. He’s just part of another disastrous season and absolutely nothing more. He makes things look worse for the franchise because he’s another HOF rental QB from GB with even worse results than last time. Maybe he pulls a Favre and makes people forget his time here by playing well somewhere else. Or maybe the Jets just tarnish his career. And I don’t care about his career, more just that the Jets gain another reason to be mocked and avoided by players/coaches etc.
So we take the hit. Rodgers isn't going to mentor any young QB. He doesn't even talk to his teammates on the sidelines during games as he's often seen slumped on a bench by himself with a towel on his head. We're years away from being relevant so if we have to take a monster cap hit in order to be free of the Rodgers Clan (ALL OF THEM), makes sense to do it now and get it over with. Not often can ONE GUY put an entire team in Cap Hell. I hope the new GM/HC isn't afraid to rebuild and not fall for the "we have a great roster and are only 1 or 2 guys away" bullshit cause we're not.
Nah, the Jets have to stop band-aiding these situations. This is one of the biggest problems with this franchise, the one foot and one foot out shit. Rodgers is part of the problem. There is no long-term outlook for Aaron Rodgers, it's week to week, season to season if he's lucky. He's only holding the Jets back from moving forward with a new regime. The longer he's here the longer the rebuild will take. I hope he's gone along with all of the coaches and the entire Front Office.
It's a shame Jordan Travis is hurt. If he were available, I would like to see him as the starting QB just to get him some experience with regular season games. Gives the Jets a chance to evaluate him. Although I suspect that really doesn't matter since Johnson will probably clean house. We will get a new GM/HC for next year.
That's the guy next year. I don't think they draft a QB this year because I don't know if they are high enough.
