The rationale of firing a head coach, and naming a rookie head coach to not only run the (whole) team, but, to continue his defensive coordinator responsibilities; and expecting to win in the NFL? This is piss poor planning if you ask me and is akin to a regular schlep like me quitting my job without a new job lined up as a replacement, purely out of emotional distress. While I was in favor of replacing Saleh at the end of last season, this was done shotgun style and made no sense the way it was done. They all should never have been brought back in the first place. We all said it in January. Nothing against Jeff Ulbrich, he just doesn't appear to have the experience needed to do both jobs successfully; at least that is what it looks like so far. We see a defensive decline and nothing else improving at all. Something else annoying asf. We've watched all of the NFL teams and games they play each week for years. Guys are making circus catches (especially against us), completing long passes down field (always against us), busting runs all over the place (mostly against us) and scoring lots of points (weekly against us). Then I watch the NY Jets play, and it is as though I am watching a completely different level of execution and skill. What the Jets do offensively is so dull, so boring, so noncreative uninspired and predictable it makes me want to turn the game(s) off, which I often do, and go spend my weekend time doing other things. I used to take it so personally when they always suck, I have trained myself not to give a damn anymore. I just go on my merry way and continue my day or night. As yet another season slips away, apathy is once again creeping into my tiny head. Every year, before Halloween, my football team is hopelessly out of the race for the post season tournament.
We were doomed from the start. The Rodgers injury saved Saleh and Douglas last year. The whole coaching staff is poor. All of them. They’ve gotten free pass after free pass. Saleh should give half his pay to Zach Wilson for being so bad it overshadowed how poor Saleh and his staff is. Even defensively, I refuse to crown them as any kind of defensive gurus. They run a basic shell defense that runs on superb talent and agression. We do not have a single great leader on our staff.
That is why I feel that I am watchig some JV or Division 3 team go against pros most weekends. Most of the time, they were / are so overmatched, and this has been so since Saleh took over. We can all recall the games in which they came out unprepared and looked like they had first met each other 15 minutes prior to kickoff.
You know what bakes my noodle? After seeing Smith do well in Seattle the last few years and Darnold's resurgence, was it REALLY Zach Wilson who sucked? Or, was it that he was doomed right out the gate. We can all agree he needed to sit a year or two. However, HAD he been able to sit, with a decent QB coach to train him, would he be the franchise QB we needed? It's going to be VERY interesting what the Broncos do with him next year after he's had a full year to sit back, relax and take in training and mentorship from a REAL head coach and offensive guru like S.P? I swear to anyone that will listen, if Zach Wilson amounts to more than a hill o' beans within the next couple years, this franchise should be sold, burnt, the Jets moniker burned and the ashes resurrected somewhere FAR away from NY and the likes of Herr Johnson and his shit bag miscreants of team management.
I honestly don't know - the guy did some boneheaded things, but that MAY have been because he wasn't being coached up to do the right thing. I do know that in the second half of the Chiefs game last year he looked absolutely superb. Not just for a freaky pass or two, but over the course of the half. He made some incredible throws and just looked totally in command. I don't know where that came from, or how you would tap into that again on a consistent basis, but it showed he had ability.
And Zach will be baking more noodles for you. The NFL model with QB's is way off. Sure, every now and then a young QB clicks by his second season, (Mahomes) but teams should not base their roster on that. IMO they also get paid too much. Look at Daniel Jones. He has Saquon's money. Part of the reason the young QB's are playing too soon is the money that QB's are overpaid in their second contract as it seems like a bargain having a starting QB playing on a rookie deal. I have to mention this too - the college system and QB's leaving it early. Zach is practically the same age as Bo Nix! Zach CLEARLY was not ready for the gig. He has talent that will bear fruit in 2026 - if he gets the opportunity. What's the answer for the Jets? It's not bringing in 40 year olds and it's not wasting top 5 picks on 20 year old QB's either. Maybe Jordan Travis will develop the right way. Maybe we target the other Zach Wilson's out there and give them a second chance - with proper coaching of course.
I agree with the sentiment the problem is this organization proves time and time again that it is anything BUT organized. So not only do we have to get lucky and hit on a QB we are also going to have to get lucky and hit on an unproven HC because nobody worth their salt is going to want to come to this shithole and deal with this dumbass owner
I'm so on your page!!!!!!!! This is a league wide problem and it has been going on for a while. The main problem is the whole "monkey see/monkey do" attitude that the teams have to paying players. Players should be paid based on what they actually accomplish. That's the whole point to the CBA. Problem with this is, as you so aptly pointed out, is that when the QB hits their second contract, if they are even remotely decent, pull down "stupid" money. ANYTHING over $20 million is stupid money for a guy that is just barely coming into their own. Perfect case in point: Trevor Lawrence No way this kid is anywhere worth NEAR $275 million. I don't give a fuck if he is a Quarterback and that's what the "market calls for." He hasn't done shit for that $$. Period. Now, he might...but, it's quite clear he's at least another year or two away. The Jaguars SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE to pay him something more realistic like a 2 or 3 year contract for say $60 million. THAT is more in line with his skill set, NOW, than just throwing $275 large at him just "BECAUSE" he's a fucking QB. Fuck man, Brock Purdy is worth more than Lawrence at this juncture in their careers! That kid is making, what, $1 million this year. Until the NFL gets their heads out of their asses, and fast, this is going to become an even bigger problem. I don't give a shit what players say in the media. You know damn good and well that many of these veterans, especially the GOOD ones, are livid over the kind of scratch that is being thrown at the QB position, hell you can throw the fucking WR's in here too, instead of the money being balanced across the entire TEAM. The REASON they are drafting these kids so early is all BECAUSE of this. That kid in Indy, Richardson. I posted somewhere that he'll be out of the league in 5... He's already had TWO major injuries and he hasn't completed one full starting season between last and this year. He wasn't READY. Zach Wilson wasn't READY. Jesus, the list goes on and on and on. These kids, especially the Z.W's of the world, need to: A. stay in school until they get into at least their Senior year and/or B. "Ride the pine" for at LEAST 2 and in some cases 3 or 4 years!! Until that happens, this shit is going to continue. And get worse....a LOT worse. Teams, like the Jets, who have never really been able to foster a QB, regardless of era/CBA/whatever other excuse you can throw on here, are supremely hampered by this. The Jets aren't the only team that has trouble tutoring a QB. You'd THINK that QB would be the ONE position that you could sit for a while. I mean, seriously, their career life span is anywhere between 15 and 20 YEARS. Soon it'll be 25 the way they pamper these guys when it comes to taking hits!! Of all the position groups, they and the O-Line, usually, have the most longevity so you'd THINK they could spare some time. IMO, the solution is one of 2 things: You FORCE QB's to STAY in school until, at least, their Junior year You make their 1st contract a 6 or 8 year stint with NO extensions/pay bump allowed unless they hit certain performance escalators You do this or the league is going to continue to burn through players and all that does is hurt the player and the league. Not to mention the psyche of the fans! lol
Yeah the Jets are swimming upstream the rest of the way. They still have a chance it depends on Rodgers. It was always about him that hasn't changed. They'll go as far as he takes them. It's been that way for many, many, many years.
