Saleh is the HEAD coach, not the D coordinator. He’s responsible for both sides of the ball. Lack of discipline has been his calling card for 4 years. He has no accountability and it’s starting to really derail things. When they were the peppy up and coming team you could live with it. Now that they’re supposed to win games like this it’s unacceptable. And the fact that 4 years in he still hasn’t figured that out is fireable
This is year 4, he's never had a winning season, and the only Jets HC with worse records are Kotite and Holtz. He's shown nothing to support the conclusion that he has improved with experience.
Yeah I've been preaching patience and consistency but I think it's clear at this point. ZW was part of the problem but he became a scapegoat for all our problems in the FO.
Offense absolutely sucked, no argument there at all. I don't care if the defense gave up 3 points or 240 points, I want to win. And when you know your offense is struggling, and you know the weather is going to affect it even further, you don't leave a guy wide open. You can't just shrug at a missed assignment like that. I'm sorry, I disagree completely. And even if we do shrug off the missed assignment, there's still the fact that they got gassed left and right the whole second half like they were playing against Steve Young and the 49ers of the early 90s. News flash: they weren't.
Disgusting experience for my son and I after returning to MetLife after at least 2 decades absence for me...AND I will NEVER go back to Woody's hellhole and decades of ineptitude. They couldn't gain a yard when needed! Defense had no pressure Cant get a easy TD etc. Denver came out to win and they did! Sitting there in torrential rain was further punishment...And when I looked around me, I saw families of hardworking people, some with toddlers, babies, single Moms and Dads too wasting hard earned $ on Wooddys con game ..and liking it??? pathetic Johnson manipulation of ignorant proletariat Fan Base...shame on them..shame on me!!! I mean what type of masochist rolls the dice to go to these games, pays an extra 75 bucks to park $13 a beer and hope for a decent performance ..perhaps a win?? Management is terrible ..players so so ..zero pride zero accountability. Coaches and players just cashing in ..sad
I gave up my season tickets after 2016 for a lot of those reasons. In addition to bending over the fans and raping them and stealing their money, which they may not literally be doing, but they are absolutely figuratively doing so. Haven't been back to the stadium since. I go to road games, at least one a year, sometimes as many as two or three, and that is my sole contribution to the Jets. Other than my time of course, which is probably more costly.
Yep, I get you Dark....Me? I will only watch on TV going forward ad infinitum. And I get to change the damn channel lmao
Joe Douglas sold the farm for Sam Darnold and didnt a provide a qual the missed assigment sucked no doubt. the offesne loist the game. AR said it, 10 pts? you gotta win 100% of the time.
100%. And most of the great HCs have been great almost immediately. McVay is a good example - he took the Rams from 4-12 the previous year to 11-5 his first season.
Agree 100% GREAT doesn’t take too long to show up May not happen in year 1, but by year 3 or 4, you’ll know. You’ll know if the HC is any good. You’ll know if the QB or the WR or the DE is any good. This is year 4 for Saleh…if it doesn’t happen now, it probably won’t happen here ever.
Actually gets me to wondering, are there training courses or coaching clinics during the offseason for coaches? One thing I think has been a constant through all our failed coaches under Woody is that none of them improved at anything during their time here. Players have all sorts of access to offseason training, what do the coaches do?
I think my stance is that training is largely irrelevant because I'm not sure that improving much is even a thing. Coaches are generally either good or they aren't. If they are, they figure things out quickly enough to where it doesn't look like there's much of a learning curve at all. If they aren't, they never meaningfully improve. There are random exceptions to this but I think it's a generally accurate framework. I think this is usually true regardless of how much training a given coach does. There's also the question of how beneficial such training would even be given that good coaches guard their secrets like the nuclear launch codes.
Saleh could learn how to do pressers from Pierce. Reporter: Davante Adams? AP: We're playing Denver this week. Reporter: Davante Adams?? AP: Denver this week. Reporter: Davante Adams????? AP: Broncos.
Saleh is hopeless and a fraud. It's hard to believe that he seems to have learned nothing over his tenure. You'd think that by coaching for these years he would have to naturally improve in some aspect of his job but that doesn't seem to be the case. Same bs after game quotes, excuses, useless motivational slogans and inept, sloppy play etc. Sorry, folks, this is as good as it's gonna get for him. Compound this with possibly the worst OC in football and you get games like last Sunday over and over again. Get ready for another regime soon. Woody is going to have to do something eventually. The dysfunction of the organization is hard to believe. It consumes everyone who comes in contact with it.
Hopefully the Jets win Sunday but if they do lose then I would consider firing Saleh at 2-3 and promoting Jeff Ulbrich to interim HC. At 2-3 there is still time to save the season. If Saleh stays, then there is a good chance this falls apart. For a team trying to win now you can't waste another year when your future HOF QB is 40 going on 41.
Not that this should be moved yet, but I’d love a mini forum of just the major “FIRE COACH X” threads. Just so they’re easy to find. They’re usually entertaining reads.
As much as Saleh seems to suck I don’t think that fixes what appears to be a larger issue here. We should fire Hackett and I guess the closest guy to be promoted would be Todd Downing. Is Keith Carter the idiot that everyone in Tennessee hated or Downing? Whichever one it isn’t, I’d promote that guy.
Who would possibly train them though? It’s not like the good coaches want to help the shitty ones. Beyond having a relationship with a good retired coach there isn’t a way to do it. Yeah it feels like it’s pretty much on-the-job training and they figure it out by year 2ish or never at all. There are some cases of good second chance coaches but there are few and far between which indicate a lack of growth.
I think there are mentorship programs and diversity programs but as far as coaching goes, it seems to me to be a Who You Know business where the coaches learn by being on and around football programs whether it's high school, college or pro, and the better coaches are usually the ones that are able to be around the more successful franchises. Even if they did/do have extended education clinics sponsored by the league, the better experience will still be working for experienced coaches on solid programs. Nobody with that much knowledge is going to give up anything that valuable in a clinic, they'd probably treat it more as a speaking engagement. The great coaches are so obsessed with the game that they educate themselves and network with other great coaches to try to pry info out of their contemporaries.
