If they score 19 against the defending NFC Champions while only hitting the same total last year seven times, there is reason to believe they will score more against weaker teams this season.
Doesn't matter: The defense had a baseline of 19 points or work with in order to win the game. By your standard the starting offense scored ZERO the entire last season, since Rodgers was injured in the first drive of the year.
of course it matters. 13 points aint beating anyone. The 49ers were yucking it up on the sideline with a big lead while Tyrod Taylor was mopping up an extra 6 points
I think there could be many games where Taylor has to come in with mop up duties if the Aaron Rodgers lead offense can only muster up 2 drives all game ... (negated by 2 turnovers)
If I could list all the things that were the problem yesterday, Rodgers would be pretty darn low on that list. Perfect pass dropped on the first drive, fumble on the second, tipped interception. Running game couldn't get anything going. Playing an elite defense on the road, and it was his first game in forever. I'm not saying he had an amazing game, he didn't. He just isn't one of my main concerns going forward (although his health is)
You've never been more wrong. I saw a few plays last night from the QB position that we've almost never seen from Jets QB's before. Notably, cashing in 0n, and perhaps causing it himself, the "free play" post pattern TD to Lazard. That was entirely Aaron Rodgers. Previous Jets QB's could not pull that off. Our previous one would have run the called play, or just scrambled for 5 yards. Also - despite the very loud home crowd, no false starts. No delay of games. We have a QB who knows what he's doing, and leads. No mad rushes to get the ball snapped, leading to a clusterfuck play. Aaron Rodgers has not played an NFL game in almost two years. I thought he was terrific. The way things were looking last night with the rest of the team, previous Jets QB's lose that game 45-3. Our defense was hot garbage.
There are a ton of hater washwomen on this board who will always find something to complain about. Nothing will make them happy outside of being negative and telling anyone who doesn't agree with them that they know better. The BIGGEST reason they lost last night is the defense got gashed and out physical'd. That's the long and the short of it. Anyone taking umbrage to Rodgers being pulled the last 4 minutes of this game is a fool. Zero reason to leave him out there at his age and in his first game in 20 months. I know, I know, they sky is now falling, seasons over. Bring in the pooper scooper!!!
For a guy who hasn't played a game in two years Rodgers looked pretty good. That drive down the field in the first half was a thing of beauty. He might be a bit rusty that's to be expected. But to hang this loss on Rodgers is unreasonable. The Jets offense had the ball for a total of 20 minutes last night. You're not winning many games that way.
This is correct. The announcers kept saying that the 49ers running back was great at finding the holes. I COULD HAVE FOUND THOSE HOLES. THEY WERE HUGE!
Rodgers made a bunch of great throws. In the 1st TD drive, he made a number of clutch throws and the 1st TD to Lazard was all Rodgers. He drew the D offsides and then, realizing he had a free play, chucked a strike to Lazard for a long TD. On the other hand, the Jets had no running game. Also, no creativity. Finally, they used very few playmakers. The offense looked very vanilla and predictable. Does that sound familiar?
Agreed. And he also threw a couple of very quick and accurate screens. When was the last time a Jet QB could do that?!
8 yards total in Q2. Yeah offense is not the problem. How's about (run) blocking someone and keeping SF offense on the sidelines? Week 1, the D was gassed by Q2.
After 1 game against a super bowl contender? Jets defense needs to do a better job against the run. There was no excuse for that with CMC out. 2 turnovers also didn't help. Rodgers would have had to put up 33 points against a defense that usually allows <17 a game. We all knew this game was going to be tough. This is the first time these guys are really playing together on offense. There are many things that could have been better. Time to get Reddick on the horn.
Could have been worse, he could have gone 15 for 28 for 133 yards, 0 TD, and 2 INT in a 38-3 loss to a a 9-8 team like he did in Week 1 of 2021.
