Been seeing a lot of headlines how some Dutch volleyball player who raped a 12 year old girl 10 years ago was allowed to compete by the IOC. "It was a long time ago." He's getting booed, haha. I don't get the disconnect here? He received a ridiculously light sentence and has "moved on with his life". Then there was some lady (this was days ago, saw it in passing, can't recall who - someone in sports?) who said I wish him the best of luck and then made a huge apology because of the backlash. The girl was 12. TWELVE. He knew how old she was. Am I nuts to think this is nuts that this guy was accepted and sent? I mean, it's not like he shop-lifted a candy bar or something. I reckon he hasn't raped any more 12 year old girls, he's married and so on, but this is just crazy bizarre. Thoughts? ETA: Steven van Der Velde.
I havent been watching... but yesterday I was in the airport waiting for a flight, and saw basketball on. I got closer to the tv to see.... "3 ON 3?!?!? HALFCOURT basketball?! WTF!" Another guy heard me say that outloud and laughed... "Yeah, can you believe, and apparently we're not any good either" I mean seriously.... Halfcourt ball is what we played at the park when we didn't have enough guys to play a full game or someone already "dibs" on the other basket. Now it's in the olympics...
Yeah and the US used Jimmer and no NBA players which makes no sense. Why not roll out guys 13, 14 and 15 that didn’t make the 5x5 team to go win that gold medal?
Because there are FIBA 3x3 events throughout the year players need to play in to get enough points to qualify. Maybe some of the G League players play in these events/tournaments but I doubt any NBA player would/could risk their health/contract in one of these lesser leagues.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ot...ns-over-treatment-of-dutch-rapist/ar-BB1r1jlO At least they had the guts to call him a rapist, hahaha. I have to admit, I'm kind of half following this story because I just can't believe it???? His teamate is all leave Britney alone, I just want to play ball, I'm tired of this controversy. This is off the wall.
Oh gotcha. I didn’t know there were qualifiers like that. Are a lot of the Olympic sports like that? Seems silly that anyone can’t compete.
Anyone can compete, they just need to qualify. NBA players, for reasons obvious, just choose not to. Millions of millions of dollars > Gold medal in 3x3 that @stinkyB doesn't care about
So you missed the Male Triathletes all throwing-up after finishing swimming in the Seine? That was after the delayed the event by a day or so because the water quality was so bad! Imagine swimming and a turd bobs by
The French Olympic Commitee know about this years ago but didn't want to spend the money - after all its just competitors health!
