This is a valid complaint but I think we DID go to that model when we hired JD. JD reports to Woody and he gets to hire his own coach, which he did with Saleh. So our structure isn’t the issue…it’s not like it was back with Idzik and Rex where they both reported to Woody individually. Now if the question is more around Woody should stop meddling and getting involved in football decisions, yes that I get 100%…but then every owner has that right to do it…they own the damn team. Woody should know enough to know that he doesn’t understand squat shit about football and stay out of it, but hard to get an owner to stop meddling if that’s their style. Some do it more than others, but that’s the part that sucks is that Woody is a clueless idiot who never built anything in his life so he has no fucking idea how to run a football team.
"Hate on Saleh"? He's the head coach; he's responsible for the coaching staff. Hate is not a factor - production is. He either hired Hackett or permitted Hackett to be hired - he owns it. None of the scenarios conjured up here in an effort to protect Saleh are proven - they're just speculation. I'm not sure why anyone would think Saleh is among the best head coaches in Jets history; that should be determined by the team's record, not slogans. "Positive vibes only" my ass.
Saleh is such a great coach that you don't even need to consult the wins and losses columns. He transcends winning.
Actually, I think, originally, with the ingress of JD it "was" supposed to work that way but, from what I'm able to tell, they threw that model into the trash the minute Johnson had a "brain storm." Then again, who am I? All I have to go on is what the media puts out there. All I know is, whatever this team is doing, it's not working.
LOL WHAT? The dude had back to back MVP seasons with Hackett. Easy to throw stones when you have to rework your entire offense around a shitty QB and garbage oline that limits what you can do and how the defense plays your team at the LOS. Hackett is the easy blame for people who can't think for themselves or grasp nuance. Jets fans need to stop the crying, it's beyond pathetic. Y'all want every coach, every scout and every gm fired every year. They aren't firing Hackett, he didn't even get a chance yet.
Your points about the shitty QB are valid … however, not sure I agree on the Hackett defense point. He was a bad hire from the moment it was announced. He was a total disaster in Denver after riding Rodgers’ coattails in GB. Much like Gase who rode Peyton to supposed OC skill, Hackett was a product of AR, not the other way around. I hated the hire when it was made, and I still hate it now. We have no control over it, so just have to hope that AR can salvage the offense, but I think we can all be pretty assured in knowing exactly what kind of shitty coach Hackett is after seeing him fail miserably in Denver and look absolutely dumbfounded here when AR went down. He was exposed. Much like Gase was. Neither guy is “the guy”…they were merely lucky enough to work with hall of fame QBs and have some of that shine rub off on them, but as soon as they stepped away, they were exposed for the shitty coaches they both are.
Hackett has pretty much never elevated a quarterback or offense in his career beyond one year in Jacksonville with a great offensive line, offensive line head coach and a power running back/good defense behind all of that so they could just play ball control. It’s obvious he had little to do with the offense in Green Bay with LaFleur at the helm because the differences with Payton & Hackett with Russell Wilson are staggering. Meanwhile Green Bay’s offense has barely missed a beat since he left.
I had more optimistic confidence in pre-Rodgers Saleh then I ever had in Bowles. I never really liked that Bowles hire from day 1.
The team still needs more OL depth and weapons regardless of who's calling the plays and I'm no fan of Hackett.
Where have you been? This changed when JD was hired. Saleh reports to JD, not to Woody. Saleh had succeeded in getting Woody to back off and quit meddling, but that ended when Rodgers became available and the team had struggled for 2 years. I also disagree with your comment regarding LaFleur. Since JD is the "boss" and reports to Woody, and he drafted Wilson, and his neck is on the line, he should have the ability to make the HC fire the OC if he's not doing a good job for any reason, but particularly in developing their rookie QB.
How good of a job did Rodgers essentially do when essentially inserting himself into that type of input position on the sidelines last year? The idea that a 41yo Rodgers won't need any legit sideline help to find success in 2024 might be one of most shallow and worst seasonal plans this team has ever put into place. Even above the decision to abandon the 2023 rebuild and bring Rodgers in the first place. But I'll ask you the same thing I asked the other guy there. When the time comes for that bubble to burst and if/when it turns out you are just simping into the complete line of BS there, are you actually going to place any of the blame game for that on Rodgers and his ego? Or are you just gonna turn around reach for excuses why it wasn't actually Rodgers' fault that having no real OC basically just ended up in a season that replicated the 2022 Broncos offense (and much of our 2023)? If you are gonna own it latter I can least respect that as a difference of projection opinion.
Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't RS say that he wa getting another offense guy in to "help" the OC? I ahen't seen any coaching additions, habve you? WE know Hack-it's limitations. In my mind the problem is we have a HC who seems to have his head firmly planted up his ass with respect to the O...well be better hope the OL stay healthy and AR too.
The Jets tried to hire 2-3 new offensive coaches this season, but were unable to, so Saleh is going with just Hackett and Downing. IMO it's not surprising that they were unable to hire any new offensive coaches. Other coaches around the NFL should know what a cluster-fuck the Jets' offense is with Hackett and Downing, and don't want to be a part of or associated with that dysfunction, but they also know that it's likely that Saleh won't be the HC here next season, so they stayed put.
Other then Saleh's lame duck claim yesterday? Not really. This is also what just gets more more riled up and frustrated with all this btw. We wanted a hire a "senior offensive assistant", but couldn't find one with a more encouraging option then just leaning back hard on Hackett? Give me a break. To me that is basically like the Zach Wilson situation, with Rodgers finger prints all over it, playing itself out again from last year. Where we go into the offseason with every open acknowledge that the *TEAM* at the very least was committed to moving on from any commitment to Zach as our 2024 starter. Then we sign Rodgers, he adopts Zach as his non-threatening to the "all-about-me" narrative son, and which ultimately just ends up in some completely contradicting post-week 1 team declaration of "Zach is our unquestionable OUR guy, and NO we will not even entertain the possibility of bringing any outside insurance options like Carson Wentz for a practice look". This team is just so broken like that.
