Well here we are again, contenders in the off season. Didn't like Huff being traded but, that aside, I'm seeing a decent job done in free agency and we look better. I'm hoping Alt falls to us in the draft and then I'll be very pleased. I like to be optimistic in real life but being of a certain age, and having been this way before, I'm in the 'I'll believe it when I see it' camp when it comes to results.
Yeah this is basically the same BS from last year starting up. Complete over hype expectation that is wish casting on a lot of things with a super low probability chance of actually seeing said best case scenarios, and simply bubbling out all the more grounded logic screaming that it's not going to happen. Mike Williams doesn't make this team any less of a 2022 Broncos projection then we looked like yesterday morning. If you keep Hackett at the helm of this offensive plan ship that is still, by far, the most likely destination this team is sailing towards. Time is running out to change course on that, but there is still time left. Both the majority fanbase and NY media need to stop simping on Rodgers like some thirsty teenage virgin watching a Pokimane twitch stream, and start holding *HIM* accountable here. Don't just look the other way. Rodgers 100% deserves to be booed and constantly have his priorities questioned on this. Shatter that PR shield he gets to comfortably sit behind on this, and they WILL make a change. The Jets FO WILL remove him (or at the very least hire somebody over him) if Hackett is complicating the 2024 hype sell on the team, and you can bet the farm Aaron Rodgers will NOT fall on the sword for Hackett there if it means being a villain in his own desired hero story. The overall silence and purposely chosen denial over this might even more "Jets Being the Jets" then even Hackett's historic failures themselves.
I don't know...Josh McDaniels has been exposed. Hell, ALL of the Patriots coaching staff has been proven as frauds. Even the supposed "Ole' Ball Coach." Nary a one of them have done shit without Tom Brady. Not one...
Esiason needs to keep his mouth shut. The more he talks the more I forget that he was a decent QB because his "projection skills" are on par with Ryan Leaf's ability to play QB in the NFL.
McDaniels did have a good first year with Mac Jones before he left and that all went to crap though. So that is something. I'm also pretty convinced that forever desperate to be relevant Raiders organization is just as snake bit as we are at this point, and that he walked into a probable L from the start there. Unlike what we have with Russ we don't have a post-Shanahan body of work elsewhere on Jimmy G yet to compare either.
When that take falls on it's face are you going to stop looking the other way and actually blame Rodgers and his ego for being wrong there? If the answer is no then that outlook just comes off as ridiculously shallow imo
Exactly. I suppose we're "winning" the offseason yet again, but we did that last year as well. In the end, it's still the same people leading this team that led and were responsible for last year's debacle. I'm done buying the offseason hype. Got my hopes too high last year for it to just come crashing down like it always does with this team. They need to show me results. The time for empty hype is over. Just show us some results for a change.
On another note I absolutely hate this BS "if Rodgers goes down it doesn't matter anyway" line the people looking the other way on Hackett keep regurgitating out. Rodgers is 41yo. No exaggeration there is literally a better then coin flip chance that 90% of this board and fanbase are sitting around screaming at the heavens come week 3 that Rodgers is obviously too old to be our QB, and how stupid JD and Saleh have to be for ever believing differently. While completely absolving themselves of any pre-belief sin of their own there. 17 games is a long season. If you truly believe this team is capable of being both competitive and entertaining enough with a 41yo QB, who's most likely upside outcome is to be a league average game manager that stays healthy all season, why be content setting yourself up to wave the white flag if/when we have to make a move to Tyrod Taylor? Why would anybody want to sit through and attempt to find any enjoyment in a repeat of 2023 again after the large reality dose we had to stomach last year? All this talk about projecting out as a legit playoff contender may only make sense when kept it's it own cozy vacuum, but that doesn't mean this team can't still have a Cinderella story chance. Regardless who ends the year at QB there is no Cinderalla story chance with no legit OC in the coaching room.
Yep. As long as Hackett is allowed to do anything regarding this offense, the Jets are in trouble. If they want to keep him around in some innocuous capacity, fine, Woody has enough money to pay him to do that. But they absolutely need a legit OC who knows how to build and manage a modern NFL offense.
Everyone worried about a demoted Hackett, but I think the guy in my avatar is a bigger problem. He's not a very good leader.
He's not a very good leader, but imo Hackett is still the biggest problem, or at least will be if he runs TC and the offense the way he did last season (lackadaisically, with no discipline, no focus on details, and working together).
He's a proven loser. How many times did Shanahan block teams from talking to him, any? But he did get passed over for the Browns job in 2020.
On this team and with it's own unique internal dynamics? No, he's not. With all due respect I find it so ironic how much people can hate on Saleh for what ultimately boils down to him turning into a simp when Woody decided to hitch the guy's coaching career to Rodgers and essentially make the team's QB his boss. Especially when prior to that completely misguided desperation decision Saleh was probably the best coach we've had since early years Rex. Like you have such a large part of this fanbase, completely simping out like twitch teenagers over a declining out of the league QB's "big name", and who want to rabidly hate on the HC for essentially doing the same exact thing they have. Declarations like "Hackett isn't Rodgers' fault" aren't any less frustrating and stupid sounding to anybody outside the simp bubble then what was coming out Saleh's mouth in most of those post games presses all last year. Only this team lol
THIS! I've been on record, for over a decade, that the Jets need to adopt a more traditional alignment. You have your FOOTBALL MAN in either the GM/VP Football Operations and then that person goes and hires the H.C. THEN the H.C. goes and puts together "his" team. Not this goofball of an organization. Here, everyone reports up to Woody and whatever goofball "board of football" he seems to cobble together. Each coach independent with all accountability rolling up to Johnson. It's "why" he needs to GO for this team to think about evolving into something more stable and successful. Yes, I'm aware there are teams that do operate this way but, here in NY, this operational model is simply not working. It needs to change. If Saleh felt that LaFluer was "his guy" then Saleh should have sunk/swim with that guy. To have LaFluer replaced by whomever Johnson/Douglas thought would coddle Wilson more effectively undermines Saleh's authority and, worse, removes a certain amount of accountability from Saleh. Insult to injury, we now have GM Rodgers interjecting his opinion and it muddies the waters even more. Something needs to change.
