I would be shocked if he signed Bakhtiari. I don't give a damn how close Rodgers and he are, he's only played something like 4 games over the last 2-3 season. Eff that! I hope that Woody fires him before the draft if he signs Bakhtiari. The NY media would have a field day trashing JD after all the injuries the Jets OL has had over the last 3 season, then he goes out and signs the most injury-prone OL in the NFL just because he is Rodgers' buddy.
They traded a single 6th round pick for McNabb and a conditional pick that never came to fruition. They swung and missed on Jackson - it happens to a lot of teams including us. Not that I agree with what they did in getting Bradford but they lost on a missed field goal the year before to the defending NFC champs. They felt like they had a SB roster. It wasn’t that crazy at the time. Was Cousins a bad signing given his production?
I don’t have any doubt he’s going to do this. I hope you’re right and I’m wrong but given how things went last offseason if Aaron wants him and he’s free he’s probably coming here.
You say all that as if JD is the one that ultimately gets to make that final say call. If Rodgers wants his guy here on a non contested flyer contract he's getting his guy. Chalk that down as another fine print condition that came with the empowerment Woody bestowed on him after agreeing to take that $35m paycut.
If that's true, then I lose what little respect I had left for JD for not telling Woody to shove it up his ass and quit.
Of course we are. Nobody actually thought we were going to get a high quality backup in here did they? To put a cherry on top of this, Douglas will probably give him the same contract that Brissett and Minshew get from their teams.
Jermaine Eluemunor is expected to sign a two-year, $14 million deal with the Giants. JD should’ve signed him especially for that price.
I am not sure who these people are, but JJ was universally recognized as a great pick, with quite a few folks saying he was top 10-15 player we landed at 26: https://www.newyorkjets.com/news/jets-receive-high-marks-on-2022-nfl-draft-grades There was no where near this reaction when McD was picked, and majority had him picked too early. These two situations are not even remotely comparable but likely the opposite. JJ was universally considered to have fallen to us when one of the main needs on the team was Edge. McD was considered a reach when one of the least needs on the team was Edge and there were numerous needs on offense.
So far everything according to plan: https://sny.tv/articles/jets-gm-joe-douglas-won-t-deviate-from-plan-spend-big-in-free-agency
The Patriots are re-signing versatile OL Michael Onwenu to a 3-year, $57M deal including $38M guaranteed. Another potential OT target gone. 2024 is NOT going to be any different. No urgency to fix o-line means no playoffs again.
