Ok, so how is it that article did not even mention Brock Purdy? He's a recent "Mr. Irreverent" that turned out to be a steal. I know why - since it's an article about the Jets meant to be a another Jet Joke. Pathetic. And it's even in our local paper. FU NY Post.

1969 draft is the last and only time the Jets had Mr Irrelevant. It was an interesting pick though, the Jets took Fred Zirkle at defensive lineman out of Duke.

Zirkle never played for the Jets, but he became a multi-millionaire as a ceo in the early days of the computer boom

It's basically like having the first overall pick of the undrafted players!

Brock Purdy has made the last pick a hot commodity. Joe Douglas should be able to parley that pick into a 2nd or 3rd rounder! WHO NEEDS A QB??? Call the JETS!!

The New York Jets officially will have three comp picks given to them in April’s Draft. The NFL awarded Gang Green a sixth-round (No. 218) and two seventh-round selections (No. 256 and 257). The selections came due to the Jets losing defensive tackles Nathan Shepherd, Sheldon Rankins, and quarterback Mike White. New York signed Allen Lazard, and Mecole Hardman as players who counted against the comp pick formula.

This is something new & different. Usually our 2nd round pick(s) are all Mr. irrelelvants. This takes us to a whole new ballpark, maybe sleepy Joe will hit on the last pick(s) of the draft.

Comp picks are awarded when a players contract expires and instead of resigning with that team, they sign elsewhere. Two of the main factors in getting comp picks are how much the player signed for and their season play time. Awards won during the season are also factored in. When a CFA lost and a CFA gained are rated similar, they cancel each other out.

The compensatory picks we got went like this:

We had 5 CFAs (Compensatory free agents) lost:
    Sheldon Rankins
    Nathan Shepard
    Mike White
    Nate Herbig
    Dan Feeney

    We had 2 gained:
    Allan Lazard
    Mecole Hardman

Lazard voided Rankins, which I believe would have been a 5th based on his stats, but Lazards considerable contract cancels it.
Hardman voided Shepard which would have been a 6th based on contracts.

We got 6th for Herbig, who only started 2 games but got a two year 8 million contract.
We got 7ths for White and Feeney. White got a decent contract but little play time, Feeney had decent play time but small contract.

If Tua would have gotten hurt Whites pick could have moved up considerably. Instead he ended up as the second lowest CFA awarded. In fact, both of our 7ths are the last two picks in the draft.

If we lose Huff, he will likely return a 3rd. But this will be cancelled out by whatever splash signings we make this offseason.

Uhh, because it didn't mention anyone at all ever drafted last? It was about getting comp picks, not about individual players. Don't you think it's kind of a stretch to complain about that?

some poor bastard will miss being a free agent by one pick only to have his career destroyed simply by being drafted by our dumb ass. the ny jets are the reason "drafts" should be outlawed. why punish these kids by ruining their careers with our incompetency.

You're right. Overreaction on my part. It seemed to me reading it initially that it was teasing us for having an irrelevant pick, where that pick really should not even be called that anymore. As we know that nickname was back from the days when the draft was far more picks.

See now, if we look at this, like TRUE Jet's fans, the 49'ers got what is equivalent to Adam Sandler's "The Waterboy" and the Jets would end up like the "The Towel Boy" in the same movie. Always second fiddle. LOL!!!! :D:p:D

Of course, the "Towel Boy" got slaughtered on a crossing route in the movie! lol!!!

    LOVED that movie!

Kathy Bates, "Yo' daddy left with a Voo Doo woman named Phyllis." SNAP!!!
