Good point. He should want to play. Even if his career with the Jets is over (IT IS) then he has to show other teams around the league that he can play and try to get a fresh start somewhere else. This is also a really bad look for JD and Saleh as it shows the inmates are running the asylum.
I'm honestly lmao at this. The entire thing is just so ridiculous. It's an absurd move by Wilson but I kind of get where he's coming from. Yeah, he sucks, but the way we've handled our QB situation is completely insane. Zach should've been traded for picks at the end of last season. This constant benching and starting thing is so nonsensical. It doesn't make sense from any perspective. Boyle and Siemien are even worse than Zach and we're now trying to start Zach again when we should be intentionally losing as many games as we can from here to secure a better pick.
I feel like we should take it easy with the Zach attacks for now. As connected as Russini as Rosenblatt are within the organization, I always take quotes from unnamed sources with a grain of salt. At the very least, this whole situation could easily spell the end for JD and Saleh. As much as Woody loves press and attention, bad press and attention are the quickest ways to get on his bad side and it doesn't get much worse than having potentially the biggest 1st round QB bust essentially telling your coaching staff, "thanks but no thanks".
If they did, it was probably handled swiftly and privately. Another hallmark of the Woody Johnson train: press leaks. There were almost none in the few years when he was gone. Jets played everything close to the vest. Now suddenly, everyone is leaking shit again. What a disaster.
Is he willing to refund the remainder of his pay back to the team? If so, then yeah, GET THE FUCK OUT and don't come back..
"If Zach Wilson were asked directly by the Jets to start, he would agree to that, a source familiar with Wilson's thinking said." Coming from Jeff Howe, the NFL National Insider for The Athletic. Again, I wouldn't be so quick to jump on Zach for this.
I never thought we would get another clown show like the end other Rex Ryan era but this regime makes that look like a serious drama
not only that but it becomes the "telephone game" say they had a team meeting and asked zach and he was like "i'm not sure, I was playing poorly , do you think this is the best idea?" and an "unamed source" makes it out to be he doesn't want to play which then gets blown up to he refuses to play. to me it just seems his confidence is shot and you can't be a QB in the NFL without confidence. the Coahcing staff knows this and will be hesitant to play him if he lacks confidence. it's not outright refusal. With that said, zach does have to understand that he is playing for his career and should take any chance he can to get on the field. The best thing he can do for himself is to get on the field and play decent
It's somewhat being refuted by The Athletic's National NFL Insider though. Idk if Russini and Rosenblatt were just quick to get a story out or took something the wrong way but there seems to be more to this story than ZW basically giving them the middle finger.
Russini works for the athletic though. If Jeff Howe is questioning it, pretty wild that Russini is doubling down on it considering they work together.
I don't disagree - I'm trying not to skewer Zach all that much. But the fact that the organization finds itself embroiled in this and once again has hit the current bottom as far as PR goes is just...............Jets. So Jets.
"The Jets are still discussing who will be their starting quarterback moving forward." Kinda seems like Russini is backpedaling now? What a weird sequence of events this afternoon has been. Either way, the Saleh 3:15 presser will be must-see TV.
