the two situations are not at all comparable. Testaverde was younger, cheaper and already in house. The Jets were a much better team as well
Ok this is a good step, he has 3 weeks to get ready. The decision if he can play or be shut down will be made on December 20th
Saleh also explained it a little bit. Activating him to practice =/= activating him getting ready to play. So because he was activated to practice, it just means he can throw with his teammates rather than having him throw to his strength and conditioning trainers/coaches on the side.
He was still 36 years old , only in year 2 and was a bust pick for 1OA. he just performed better then expected which led up to the 1999 season where he blew out his achillis at 36. We weren't really a better team either. we had a bunch of aging parcells guys that were not helping to build a franchise. it was a very win now type of team with little future hope. we didn't have a young core like we have now
laughable response. The 1998 team got within a half of football from the superbowl and featured multiple hall of famers. This team was 7-10 a year ago and will be lucky to reach that mark this year. and you just confirmed that vinny was younger, cheaper and already in-house than rodgers, I dont need a life story beyond that. I lived through it too
Heard the Jet Docs cleared Kal EL to practice. The team has 21 days for eval and if he's not activated, he goes on IR for the rest of the year. Any bets they activate him no matter what it looks like?
everyone was cheaper back then. and he was a couple years younger but still old. also when you adjust for modern medicine and awareness health wise rodgers is probably more healthy then vinny was. looking back at the roster now in hindsight and it's nowhere near as good as you make it sound. assuming all healthy QB 2023 RBs 1998 WRs 1998 O-line 1998 TEs 2023 D-line 2023 LBers Even DBs Slight edge 2023 but close realistically the 2 rosters are pretty evenly matched. outside of o-line which was way better nothing was leaps and bounds above what we have now. even the better WR group was weak. keyshan wasn't that great, chrebet was awesome as a jet but not some elite guy and after them it was rough outside of ward being a deep threat here and there.
I'm not sure what incentive he has to play though. most likely we'll be 4-10 by the time we would activate him
This is the same shallow and flawed logic that got this disaster of bringing in ARod rolling in the first place imo. Jets had to all but hold up Lady Luck at gun point so far to even be fortunate enough to have the 4 wins we do. We should be a 2 win football team at best right now (thank you again Josh for week 1 btw). The declining 40yo Rodgers we saw in 2022, minus his actual OC/playcaller and the better o-line he faded out last year behind in GB, wasn't realistically ever going to be pushing the needle that far forward here. Especially with this coordinator, especially behind this aftermath acquisition o-line, and especially after you tack on the 20 or so extra sacks he takes this year so far after not being able to scramble out of breakdown trouble nearly as well as Zach has (pretty much the only positive score aspect I'd give him). This whole delusional desperation need to grasp at "name" value and see more substance then is actually there needs to die already. The surrounding reality in play doesn't care about and isn't going to change just because the fans here are starved for a better QB. We *NEED* to have at least one confident offensive mind in that coaching room...and we don't. A declining 40yo Rodgers isn't going to be an adequate substitute for that. If Rodgers does play this year I expect that truth to hit home real quick. At least to more then it is now.
It's all gonna come down to: A) Is he fully cleared by the doctors within the next 3-4 weeks? B) Can the team go 3-0 over the next 3 weeks? I think it's great he's trying to come back faster than anyone ever has but if the team loses even just 1 game over their next 3, I see no point in activating him for the rest of the season. Even at 9-8, with the loses within the conference we have, our playoff chances are effectively 0. I've got 0 faith that the Jets can win 3 straight against Atlanta, Houston, and @Miami but the Jets always win games that screw us over at the end of the year for draft picks, maybe they'll win some games late this year and have it actually be productive for once.
