What’s the point of benching Zach Wilson now?

At this point the OL is in such shambles I actually think he probably gives the team the best chance to win. Boyle and Siemian are sitting ducks back there.

This franchise is so backwards. The time to make the move to Boyle or Siemian was the bye week or after Rodgers got hurt. With 7 games and nothing to play for isn’t now when you’d throw in a young player like Zach?

Now after allowing him to help effectively tank the season with this 0-3 stretch of incompetence, they demote him to 3rd string? Basically admitting there were better options on the bench?

fire these guys into the sun.

Because it's the Jets way of doing things, be lucky they're benching him at all.

I can almost guarantee, after watching the replacements, Zach will look better

Because people are tired of seeing this kid. Period. I no longer ever want to see Zach on the field again and I believe I echo the sentiments of most Jets fans. Tim Boyle, as awful as he likely is, is new. At least new awfulness is somewhat curious entertainment. And when that gets dull we can watch some new Siemian awfulness. But at this point I never ever want to see Zach in a Jets uniform. I don’t blame the kid, I don’t hate the kid. I just don’t want to see his ass on the field anymore. I’m bored of his awfulness.

I think it's less about the fans and more about the players. They are losing the locker room; that's essentially been reported now. If they didn't finally relent and bench ZW then we are looking at open rebellion. And rightfully so.

No reason to start another thread when there's already a "Zach has been benched" thread.

Combination of the players stuffing Zach into a locker and the grounds crew saying they won't pick up the garbage the fans will throw on the field if Zach starts against Miami. Or something like that.

On the way home I heard some clips of Zach speaking to the media - he almost sounded relieved that he was benched. Very mature answers but perhaps, like it was mentioned last year, he just doesn’t have the passion and drive to be a NFL quarterback? Or he is just tired of being beaten down year after year by this organization, which is totally understandable too.

I know I sound like an idiot, but I still would take a chance with this guy if I ran another organization. I’d do the Geno Smith/Russel Wilson plan, sit him for a few and really take him to QB 101 school.

the other guy above touched on a good point though, he just can’t be out there anymore for this team though. Too many bad things have happened under his auspices and the fans won’t let it happen. We need a new face, any face, unfortunately not him.

The other guy above mentioned Boyle is likely to suck, I 10000% agree. His numbers aren’t good and he doesn’t appear to have Zach’s mobility, which should be a prerequisite playing behind this O-line. That said, I’m trying to talk myself into it based off 2 things:

A-Tiki mentioned several instances, some as recently as last week, of guys wide open and Zach missing/not seeing them. Presumably Boyle will at least see and hit these guys as he knows the offense better. He might not have the arm talent Zach does, but that may (hopefully) not be required. If Mr. Barber is to be believed, some of them are easy throws Zach is missing by not seeing the open men.

B-Bart Scott has been saying that defenses have been playing close to the line and blitzing more, partially due to Zach not being quick with the ball. Scott is alleging that too may dissapate as Boyle seems more decisive.

Fingers crossed for Zach going fwd, and double crossed for Boyle on Friday!

I think you are giving the fans way too much of a role in this. I think it is the team that is done with him.

That kind of red flag, coupled with his historically bad play... I wouldn't touch that dude.

He’s done with the Jets. But He’ll have many opportunities to join other teams as QB1 situations across the league are not so great.

I didn’t necessarily mean fans alone, that’s on my for poorly wording it. I meant fans, teammates etc. he’s just killing morale being out there

What are our chances of making the playoffs now? 14%? That means there’s a chance…

Not really, but someone had to say it. I think we’ve finally exhausted every chance we could possibly give him and nobody can say anything otherwise. Personally, I don’t think this was Saleh’s or Douglas’s decision. I think this call was out of their hands and possibly always has been. For some reason, someone with a lot of pull, really, really….really believed in him. Knowwhatimsayin?

The Super Bowl mandate was suspended the minute AR went down. We kind of all gave up on the season too, but in typical Jets manner, a false sense of hope built up because we somehow were above .500. We held onto that hope, even though…we weren’t scoring and that luck wasn’t sustainable. That person finally saw that and gave the nod.

I think the main point is to save the HC's ass...it has nothing to do with trying to win games/ tank/ etc. It has everything to do with the HC trying to save his job as this season implodes.

Definity Saleh was losing the LR. When a 2nd yr player calls a players only meeting, things are not good. Almost identical to last season...Saleh was losing the team, fast.

I would not put all the blame on Zach. He is not good enough to overcome a bad Oline. Yes, I know that elite Franchize QBs can make bad Olines look decent. But of all starting QBs, there might only be one or two FQBs capable of overcoming a bad Oline. Even Mahomes couldn't when it counted the most.

Add to that the abrupt retirement of WR2, and Lazard (barley a WR3) being forced onto the field for 90% of the snaps. Lazard cannot get open and has had very bad streak of dropping critical balls.

And then there's Hackett's offense he ran with AR for years. Zach had zero reps with the ones during TC. And Hackett never called a game with ZW as his QB. That all changed on the fly. Essentially, our TC started over during the reg season.

Bad (very bad) OLine. Bad WRs not named Garrett Wilson. Bad Offense, designed for a different QB. Little or no TC with the ones. Hackett. Everything was stacked against ZW succeeding. But the NFL is a results-oriented business. No excuses. No one cares. Next man up.

Sadley, it's almost a complete replay of Sam Darnold's last two seasons here under Gase. Horrible Oline that could NOT stay healthy, WRs no one ever heard of, 40 yr old Running Back. Yikes.

I don't blame Saleh for benching Z. I also don't blame him for keeping ZW going as long as he did. Saleh knows how bad Butt Boyle will be. With Boyle, the team has zero chance.

ZW became the first QB (ever) to out play Mahomes in yards, completions, TD, and INTs in a H2H match up. The Eagles are 9-1. Just one loss on the season, to? ZW and the Jets. As bad as Z can play game after game, he also gave us at least a few great games, great moments.

    Something Boyle can never do.

While Zach needed to be benched as we discussed at nausea, the idiotic move to elevate both of our QBs ahead of him is idiotic, insulting and not so much an indictment on Zach but to the CS and leadership and the two stooges that were brought in to back the QB season with. This organization is a joke front the top down. So yesterday Zach gave us the best chance to win. Today he dropped to the bottom. Tomorrow what. We are a joke.

We have a better chance to win with Hall playing the wildcat than Zach Wilson at QB. I'm ready to see what Boyle can do. It can't be any worse than Wilson. He came in cold with Buffalo up 3 td's late in the game and sending the full rush and still made a few quick throws that were accurate (and that Wilson could never do). The hot read in particular that went to Cook on the blitz was very well done. The fact that Cook blew the play and failed to turn around isn't on Boyle. He was similarly killed by the Wilson fumble and the int that was caused by the receiver letting the ball bounce off his hands. I don't think Boyle is a world beater by any stretch of the imagination - but we don't need a world beater. All we need is a guy who can make pre-snap reads, throw accurate screens and short passes, and not freeze up and hold the ball and take sacks when he has plenty of time to throw to a receiver or just throw it away. We don't know if Boyle can be that guy yet, but we will find out Friday.
