The problem is that benching Zach again might well tank his confidence and if they then go back to him he might be worse. You can call him "weak" or whatever, but that's a real possibility, like it or not. Then what? Even if you say, "Well if he's that sensitive and weak, he shouldn't be playing QB." but it still doesn't solve the problem if Siemian fails, who do you turn to? Boyle? Really?

I agree with those who said - back then - that the Jets should've gotten an experienced, decent backup before the season began when their were more options, but that train left the station long ago. If the Jets turn to Siemian at this point, I think they're pretty much giving up on Zach.

fully agree. benching a player mid game in the middle of a bad game is understandable and you can come back from that. benching him pre-game before it starts and handing the team to another QB is a no going back thing without it being different.

YOU listed the Broncos, not me.

And the Giants game was the worst football game many of us have ever seen, they were seconds away from having the most embarrassing loss of the last who knows how many years, how could you call that impressive? He made two throws that anybody could make because their defense was barely playing knowing that the Jets couldn't use the middle of the field. That was the most fortuitous thing I've seen the Jets get the benefit of in my life. There was nothing impressive about that game. Other than the final score.

I dunno I don’t think it’s really that dramatic of a decision. We’re probably two weeks away from the season being over and our only real shot at making the playoffs at this point is sweeping the AFC East and winning the division. There’s too much of a log jam at the wild card spot at this present second.

So if we lose to Buffalo, we head into a short week against Miami and then what does it matter who is playing QB any more?

I’d try to save the season rather than worrying about Wilson’s confidence. Because he’s playing for his NFL future after the Jets in meaningless games if we lose the next week.

    But that’s just me.

you said he couldn't win us games that were "winnable" I pointed out we won 4 games with him at QB.
We all said if rodgers goes down we are fucked for the year. it was known by everyone. then he went down and we all knew we were fucked. but now fans are somehow mad they are right? The lack of rational thinking among fans is really one of the strangest occurrences. but I guess thats why fan is short for fanatic.

saving the season implies somebody is better and can step up. or a young player with potential has the ability to step up. 2 30sh year old QBs who haven't had any success in over 3 years doesn't fit the bill.

If we had an AOC or bagent or even a hackenburg then there is a valid point for "lets see what this kids got" but we don't.

and while the chances of saving the season are slim. a win in buff and a win in Mia puts us 1 game out of 1st place with a game left vs 1st place. schedule wise we control our own destiny. If we were to win out, we are in. winning 6 of the next 8 if the losses are the falcons and commies seems like a close to 100% guarantee to get in as well. Sadly in reality we'll be lucky to win 2-3 more games. But the players don't look at it that way. they look at the win out and we are in. Thats why GW called a players only meeting.

No, I don't know whether you misunderstood purposely or unintentionally, but I said at the end of games, he's had the chance to win them for us. That is not the same as saying we can't win winnable games. In case I wasn't clear, I wasn't referring to a general winnable game. Like the Falcons are a winnable game, but if we lose 72–5, I won't say Zach couldn't win a winnable game. By the same token, the way the Jets are playing I don't see Buffalo on the road as a particularly winnable game, but if it a one score game late in the game, and he's in the red zone and throws an interception, it means he didn't get it done when he could've won it for us.

    Make more sense?

well maybe i mixed those up or read it wrong so lets just move past that misunderstanding.

"winnable game" though is such a vague term. as i've said before all games are winnable games before they start. Obviously some games on paper look more winnable then others.
you could go by "expect to win" aka vegas favorite. but again it's kind of splitting hairs. at the end of the day zach isn't good but out of the options we currently have, he gives us the best chance to win so we don't have a choice.
I personally don't see rodgers coming back this season but he said he wants to come back mid December. so bets case scenerio is zach for 4 more games. we need to beat buff and miami in that span. If we do then worst case we are 6-7 with 4 games left. and winning out would net a playoff berth in all likelihood.

We just have to expect zach isn't going to win us games most of the time. everyone once in a while he'll make some crazy throw that wins a game here and there but it's not the norm or expectation. it's not like rodgers or brady or manning where you pretty much guarentee they will pull it the game and win it. he's not being asked to either. based on the coaches and players comments zach and the offense is basically told "don't lose the game and let the D win it" that falls on saleh refusing to open up the offense because he doesn't believe in them and zach not to make big mistakes that cost us the game. I've never been a fan of playing scared and don't care for it personally.

Yes, I fully expect this to happen next year. Just paid for my season tickets at 15% more than last year.

Was there an improvement in the entertainment product?...No.

Will Rogers return this year? Will it make a difference?...No.

Will Season tickets and the PSL be of more value than 2022 season?...No.

Then why am I still buying this crap?

Because you like seeing Woody Johnson get shitfaced in the owner's box on a bottle of booze that costs almost the exact amount as your PSL. You're a kind and generous soul.

There's certainly some logic to that approach. But maybe Douglas & Co. still Zach as part of the future, and don't want to set him back any more. And too, while he hasn't set the world on fire, he has made significant progress. Benching him is a strange way to reward hard work and effort unless his performance is egregiously bad, which it hasn't been.

So I get your point, and wouldn't stomp my feet up and down if they did this, I would still think it's the wrong move at this point.

If they think Wilson is still apart of the future and they’re worried about his confidence over prioritizing winning games with this roster then we should all stop watching and boycott right now.

so do you really think simian or boyle gives us a better chance to win? and if so, which one? you keep implying it, but seem to refuse to commit to that opinion.

There is a school of thought that says, if you have a chance to even sneak into the playoffs, no matter how or how much it costs, you do it, and hope you catch lightning in a bottle to get to the SB and win it. But there is another philosophy that says, build the team with a solid foundation, sacrificing short term potential gain for long term success. Douglas said at the beginning this was going to be his approach. I have no idea what his or the Jets assessment of Zach is, but if they still see him as a viable FQB - or at least a solid bridge to one - I can see where they wouldn't risk that for an outside chance of maybe a "one and done" playoff appearance - even though most Jets fans are desperate enough to.

I probably would’ve elevated Semien right away when they put him on the practice squad and gotten him ready to play by now.

But going back to the real issue which is no longer of concern, I probably would’ve signed Wentz right away and put him in the active roster the Tuesday after Rodgers got hurt and had him ready to go weeks ago.

And I don’t need to read all your thoughts or opinions on Wentz. I’ve read them eight times over. He’s a far better player than Wilson is now and always has been even if you think he’s going to buy everyone a Bible and bang their wives to ruin locker room chemistry.

I wouldn’t play Boyle. I agree, he’s awful, but he’s a human shield for Wilson right now.
This franchise needs to win. Zach Wilson isn’t going to be a white knight that turns into a stud quarterback so sacrificing the present for the future in the hopes that that happens is absolutely fucking asinine and I can’t even believe that you think at this juncture it’s a possibility.

But regardless, the Bills are a good example of the trajectory we should look towards. They hadn’t done a thing in decades and made the playoffs in 2017 while McDermott turned the culture around from absolute garbage to prove to the roster, the fans and the franchise they can do it. Sometimes you need to win some games and build a winning culture around the organization as a whole.

They missed the playoffs the next year but the roster learned how to win games. We have a roster full of guys who have never won a thing. These guys (GW, Sauce, Hall, etc.) are going to be dying to get out of here with no hometown discount.

so you think simian is better? you are still skirting around giving an actual opinion. or are you playing the plausible deniability lane here? never commit to an opinion so you can never be called wrong? gotta pick a side man. you either think he's better or not or equal.

as far as wentz, yes he is a better QB, but picking up the guy who is actually a somewhat decent QB still and only 30 years old but yet was kicked off 3 teams 3 straight years in a row and then couldn't find a job is the answer? antonio brown is a better WR then cobb, still wouldn't sign him though. thast not the type of org we run. JD is trying to make us the steelers/ravens/eagles type of team. wentz doesn't fit that bill. why do you think pitt didn't sign him when their starting QB is pickett and trubisky is the backup?

Yeah see I told you I didn’t need the opinion and you brought up the same Antonio Brown comparison you’ve brought up every single time Wentz enters the conversation.

I don’t have a problem admitting I was wrong. But the fact of what I would’ve done months ago matters as it pertains to what I’d do now. I’d start Semien (but also would’ve needed him on the active roster a month ago to get more reps) at this point in the season since we score less than an offensive touchdown a game.

He’s had a better career albeit still not being very good so I’d venture to guess he’d be better at managing these games than Wilson is, yes. I don’t have to pick any specific side and I’ve already said I’d toss this clown in for that clown and if it doesn’t work we can watch the ship sink with Wilson the rest of the season because if we lose the next two weeks it’s pretty much already sunk.

Don’t care about his confidence whatsoever. I can’t imagine it’s high at this point anyways. If he can’t get up to play games to show teams he should be rostered after 2024 in what will pretty much be meaningless Jets games, then I don’t think he has much of a chance anyways.
