Here is another depressing comparison. Year 3 of Zach Wilson - 5 TD's, 5 INTs with 1600 yards passing. 8 games into his rookie season. CJ Stroud 14 TD's, 1 INT with 2270 yards passing. ROOKIE SEASON just 8 games in. Zach will never be the answer here. Maybe he can save his career somewhere else (I doubt it) but it will never happen in NY.
Ironically enough people well look at his numbers, and say how much he's improved!! A real tell all, is every QB that played coming in for Wilson, played so much better, statistically, with the same issues, that the Zach bots claim, is hampering him, he's a good kid, just not a NFL QB, his ceiling is at best average, but he can't seem to hit that high, once a year.
When 5 Td’s and 8 turnovers with a 59% completion rate and an avg of 200 yds passing per game leading an offense to a whopping 16 ppg avg in 8 games is argued in support of Zach…. You know delusion has entered the chat
There's virtually all of his stats across the board, there's team offense stats when he's at the helm. There's team record. The sample size is good. Beyond stats, there's also just the eye test - we know what a good QB looks like. The only good stat he has is his INT-free streak, but that's also balanced with a shockingly low TD count and he's probably working on a big TD-free streak. I'm rooting for him. Seems like he's a good kid and tries hard and has some great tools. But if you can't process quick enough and make good decisions it's not going to happen. I'm sure that can be improved to some extent, but I think a lot of that is natural and I've never seen a natural feel for the game from him. Here's to hoping he becomes a true abnormality and aberration as a QB who starts his career the way he has and then puts it together. But he better do it really really soon.
Ouchy, may be that would be the case, but the scenario you presented above would be sheer music to most of us fans. I’m sure you would agree. For once it would be one of those wonderful problems to have. Two good QBs under our roof. Who do we keep. We have not had one in 20 years so two to choose from would be a dream come true. Agree Hackett will not survive without AR, and Lazard should be toast with or without AR in my opinion. The more likely scenario is to have a decent Back up that does not help loose close games till AR comes back.
Stroud is putting up MVP level numbers as a rookie. I thought he should have been easily #1 pick at the time and I would have loved for the Jets to draft him. I wish he came out in 2021 or we were somehow in position to get him, but unfortunately that just wasn't realistic. Of course it is depressing to look at some other young QBs thriving. We have been doing this for way too long... However this time, unlike when we could have actually selected Mahomes and Watson, and MANY fans were asking for that, at least we don't have additional pain of knowing we could and should have had him.
the fumbles get credited to him but not all were his fault. to be fair the TDs weren't really his credit either. not all his fumbles were turnovers either. only fumbles lost result in a turnover. he didn't lose all 8 he has 1 INT in his last 219 attempts (6 games) he's protecting the ball and not taking chances. which also leads to less production. but thats on the scheme and coaches too. this is the issue with stats, you try and skew them to make your preconceived point and then even straight out make some up.
I admit I let my emotions got the best of me last game. Zach was better than he looked, he just didn't do well when it mattered most and his teammates did him no favors. I think he should keep starting in hopes that he can grow. I'd really like to see more intentional rollouts from the pocket and better play calling, but it's not all play calling, they have to execute.
FYI saleh said today "I have no interesting in elevating simian to the active roster right now" so I think that puts a hole in all the theory's here.
But there not his fault, it's everyone else's, but his, the offense has a lot of issues, but by far, the biggest problem is Wilson.
stroud is an anomaly though. in the last 10 years maybe 2 other Qbs looked really good as a rookie like him. herbert and luck. burrow didn't look as good, mahomes didn't play as a rookie. watson missed more then half the season. lamaar didn't start right away and took over mid season. stroud is a stud. he was also 2nd overall. young was 1st overall and looks like shit. it's not like we had a chance at stroud either though. our realistic options were zach, fields, lance, and mac jones and all of them suck 3 years in
C'mon man, Stroud has 5 All-Pro's blocking for him, his receivers haven't dropped a single pass, no pre-snap penalties by the offense, his co-ordinator calls a flawless game where every single play call is the right one. Poor Zach, he has to deal with so much adversity that NO other qb has to deal with...
I can’t WAIT to see the threads AFTER the Raiders absolutely POUND us tomorrow night. What WILL the excuses be? The entire front office has failed this team. Lack of a contingency plan to “massage” the ego of an aging HOF’er. Lack of contingency plan because our GM doesn’t have the stones to stand up to the owner and a head coach that has used the, “You don’t see what we see in practice” excuse one too many times. I get it, we aren’t in the building every day but we all have eyes. We can see what is taking place on the field. It’s not only disheartening but their “company line” is disingenuous. Why bother bringing in Simien if there was never any intention to start him? PURELY window dressing…and a BAD dressing to boot! I listen to the NFL Sirius channel every weekday to and from work and EVERY commentator, from Solomon Wilcots to Charlie Weiss to Pat Kirwan, said that game was over after the punt return TD. ALL of them. Sadly, I agreed. When your offense is considered “done” with 7 points on the board then… It’s disgusting…. Max Crosby has his bib on because he started drooling the minute the finished hammering the Giants. The last nightmare we, the fans, have left to endure this year is when the Defense finally mutinies. It’s coming believe me. And, the more the talking heads keep hammering home how GOOD the defense is and we’re only an average QB away from a playoff spot, for the SECOND year in a row, the faster that mutiny takes place. When THAT happens Saleh will be “done” here because he will have lost the team. THEN they’ll have to blow it all up………Again.
The Jets didn't make an offer to Wentz who they could've brought in here for a bag of peanuts this week. Seriously? Why would they not try to find every way possible to improve the worst and most important position on the team? He also expressed a desire to come here and compete for the starting job. Yet the Jets declined. Who the fuck do they think they are? A winning franchise? They are a laughingstock!!! There was absolutely no downside to bringing Wentz in. So why didn't they? Do they think that Zach Wilson is the answer? They should all be fired for incompetence and complacency at a minimum. It's like the Jets don't even want to try and improve. They just want to roll the same shitshow out there every week. That is the definition of insanity. Not doing anything and just rolling with a train wreck is not a solution. The whole Front office should be canned for this crap.
It'll be interesting to see if they'll bother telling us Rodgers is healthy enough to play after they get eliminated from contention.
That would be right up there with "Terry Bradway wanted Russell Wilson in the 3rd rd" type of Jets infamy and fucktudery.
I responded this to Gased and confused in the NFL forum when he claimed Wentz is some awful locker room killing cancer: And yet here he was, signed by a SB winning HC who was formerly considered the next up and coming offensive genius. And for the most part he’s been that. And why did he sign Wentz? Because Stafford is old and fragile, and there’s a very good chance they’re going to need a backup. And if they do, THEY WANT ONE WHO CAN WIN GAMES! A cancer coming in off the street can be booted the next week if it becomes a problem. If we wanted a QB who can win games then we’d have been on the horn with Wentz and every other possibility we could find. Instead they said they’re going with the guy they openly declared was not ready to be a starting QB, needed to read a book, needed a reset, and needed a 100m trade for an old QB to come in and replace him. And suddenly 4 plays into the season all that is forgotten? Now it’s all ok, he’s trusted to be the starter? After multiple games where it’s clear he’s only made a tiny incremental improvement, ie he’s no longer definitively the worst QB in the league, he’s just amongst them all. Carson Wentz is a 1000% improvement, and that’s exactly what the FO is afraid of. That’s why they brought in Siemian, as unintimidating a backup could be.
