mosley was all pro last year and is playing elite again this year. why would we want to move on from that?

We can't keep everyone and he is past his prime years.

Mosley is still playing pretty damn well though…

I’m sure there is a number that will work for him and for us

    Agree on must keep Huff

In no way, shape or form should Mosley be a candidate for cuts next year unless something goes horribly wrong the last 11 games. He was an all-pro last year and is playing at an arguably higher level this year. Mosley/Quincy might be the best LB duo in the league right now and they complement each other's games perfectly. The fascination with cutting Mosley has to stop.

But back on topic... extend Huff now. I wouldn't be shocked if he tells Douglas to F off and tests the waters but hopefully the conversations are at least happening during the bye week. He's (literally) one of the best pass rushers in the league, you don't let those guys walk.

    Yup for sure

I STILL hate the fact that we were so quick to trade John Abraham…stud pass rushers are gold. And we didn’t get another until JD started drafting pass rushers as Mac ignored it as did Idzik

But this combo of Huff, JFM, JJ and Q is pretty solid…and if McD develops that’d be a nice group

I hear you but the Jets are also going to have to make some hard decisions next year. We don’t have tons of cap space and we don’t have a tackle under contract. We might have to replace as many as three offensive lineman depending on AVT’s status.

We also have a ton of depth pieces on the free agent list and very limited draft choices. I wouldn’t be surprised if they cut Mosley if there’s a big cap savings.

last season and so far this season are 2 of his bets years and he's the QB and heart of the D. we should find a way to keep him
we have 17 mil next offseason. the free agents i'd like to keep are
    becton (assuming he stays healthy)
    huff
    whitehead
    jefferson
    solomon thomas
    CMG
    bryce hall
    ashtyn davis

thats a tall order but most are pretty cheap. huff and becton will be the big money ones. we could also use a tag on one of them

not much we can cut to free up room either
cutting mosley frees up 11mil but we could restructure
cutting JFM saves 7 mil but i'd like to keep him.
cutting uzomah saves 6 m il, he could be a candidate since we have conklin and ruckert still
lawson and brown are already "off the books" and free agents as is cook and hardman.

so basically 17 mil + uzo cut is 23 mil and maybe restructure mosley for another 5-6 mil freed up leaves around 30mil. rookies will eat 10 of that roughly so 20 mil to spend to bring back guys and sign new ones. we don't have much room at all.

I could see Mosley being the type of player to take a cut, tack on a year or 2, and try and get a ring in the 2 years with Rodgers here. If we stay competitive all the way until New Years, we may be the team that vets want to come to for cheap. I don't really like Mosley, especially after the covid shit where he sat at year and another year got tacked on, but he really has been awesome the last two years. I'm also curious how much knowledge he is giving to Quincy and helping him become the player he is now. That knowledge and experience can go a long way and we've seen Quincy become a borderline All-Pro player.

I would hope Huff would be willing to talk about negotiations now considering we are the team that gave him a shot as a UDFA.

There are lots of ways to open up cap space...

Tomlinson - $8 mil (see ya)
Uzomah - $6 mil (see ya)
    Conklin - $5 mil (don't want to)
JFM - $7 mil (tough call but easier than cutting Mosley)

That gets us to $38 mil. We'll have to find ourselves a new LG and probably tag Becton assuming he's healthy. There are definitely ways to keep one of the best LBs in football while filling in holes.

Huff leads the NFL in pressures on 3rd and 4th down with 20 according to PFF. This guy's is developing into something special, it's probably too late to get him at a mid tier cost, if I were his agent I'm absolutely waiting till after the season. If he continues to dominate he could land a huge contract, if not with us then with someone else unfortunately.

It was kinda shocking to me, before the Eagles game Huff only had 1 registered sack, that blew my mind, because he's always getting to the QB, I love the kid, and I absolutely love Quincy Williams, 2 dudes that have been lights out for us!

The Franklin-Myers situation was an interesting one because he had only played in something crazy like 7 games before he got that extension. It hasnt been terrible by any means but yeah if you can get out of it to keep Huff, you gotta do it

absolutely. JFM has been good but if you have to choose between Mosley, Huff and JFM but you can only have two… we all know the answer.

Looks like you're using Spotrac numbers here which has the cap estimated around $240 million. Other sources are using a much higher number around $256M, which has been called bullish. I'm guessing somewhere in the 245 - 250 range but I don't think it gets announced until late January - it takes the NFL that long to count the money.

    Amazing.

Arguably has been the best player of the incoming 2020 newcomers —— despite being undrafted.

NYJ Twitter account was tweeting about Huff last night. They know they can't let this kid walk out the door.

Let Joe D. Do his job. Maybe Huff would not be as good if he played more. Paying him like a starter instead of a specialist may not work in the salary cap. Who knows?
