Or maybe the better question is if Hacket can continue to craft game plans that fit Zach’s skill set, are they playing meaningful games in December? Of course he’ll throw pics and fumble, but is putting 20 points on the board a game enough? Even with the abominable officiating the Jets could have won this game if the execution had been there. Maybe even by double digits.
I would say it will make the Jets a more competitive team on a weekly basis. That being said, 20 points a game the rest of the way will get us to 8 or 9 wins IMO. Our defense isn't playing like a top 5 defense, so those average qb numbers you posted won't make us a playoff team.
The question is why didn't they run this offense last week against NE. I think it came down to preparation and the offense wasn't ready last week to execute this offense. During the last week, enough pieces fell into place that they moved forward with a new game plan. This tells me that there is a lot of room for improvement and this offense will likely get better over the next few weeks.
Because the coach is stuck in the 1950s where they think they can win with defense and just don't turn the ball over in a 16-9 ball game. We saw it with Rex, Bowles, and 3 years of Saleh.
Of course we can win with that. But if we go 7-6 the rest of the way we miss the playoffs and 8-5 likely has us on the outside looking in too. We’re likely in too big of a hole unfortunately.
Zach is obviously a streaky passer. He needs to get into a rhythm early to be successful and run an up-tempo offense. It did not hurt to get Gibson involved either. What gives me more hope than last season that Zach is coming around is that he is playing well in practice. I do not think that was the case last season.
We can still win the division what do you mean too big of a hole? Pre-season is now over time to play football. We still have two games against the Fins and Games against the Bills and Pats and our defense seems to be in Josh Allen's head. I might agree the hole is too big if we go and lay an egg against Denver and Zach reverts but if we can win these next two games we are still playing for the division.
Unfortunately, I think there was some of this but I hope he has seen the light. The o-line coming together will help.

It's still early, and one good game does not a season make, but it's encouraging. Zach now has to continue to build on the progress he's made, and Hackett has to continue to give him game plans like last night. This was more like "BYU Zach", the guy the Jets saw and used their #2 pick on. We need to see more of him. Yes he made some mistakes, but all QBs do. Did anyone happen to see Mahomes play last night? But it's clear that he knows when he's made them and he works at learning from them. He was also let down by the OL - again - although they are playing better, they still have to improve a lot. And his receivers let him down a couple of times, but they're also building confidence in him, and he in them. And we need to see less - like zero - of Dalvin Cook and more of Breece, Carter, and Gipson. Finally, Saleh has to shuck the "Defense wins championships" mentality and let the offense lead the way. I know that goes against every fiber of his being, and the offense - especially Zach - hasn't exactly earned his trust, but if this team is going to become contenders, it has to join the rest of the NFL and rely on a potent offense, that's supported by a strong defense.
Definitely. You can see what strong offensive drives do to the defense as well. They came out a little sluggish, but the offense reinvigorated them for sure. It was nice to see. I thought for the first time in his career, the game looked slow to Zach. No panicking, no happy feet. He was decisive, and it finally looked like it clicked. He realized that he was actually getting time back there, and his guys are getting open. I don't even think there was like a dramatic shift in playcalling. He had time and open receivers against the Patriots, he just wasn't processing fast enough. He did today. It just seemed like something went off in his head yesterday and he understood what was going on. I'm not going to get ahead of myself. These are the kind of improvement games you hope to see towards the end of your rookie year into your second. I'm not fully on board yet. Having said that, for the first time in a while, I'm excited to see him against Denver.
It actually was a dramatic shift in playcalling. Starting the game with three straight passing play? When was the last time that happened when Zach was the QB? And there were many more passing plays called than usual. And what was the result? Very quickly the KC had to respect the pass and the running game opened up. Who'd a thunk? And that dramatic shift in playcalling sent a clear signal to Zach that they trusted him, and he stopped being terrified of making a mistake. It was a night and day difference. Hopefully Hackett - and Saleh - learned something last night and continue with that type of game planning.
Fair point. I guess my point was, there were open guys last week as well, he just couldn't hit them. Agreed though, mixing up the run and the pass more clearly had KC on edge.
It's way too early for any Zach supporter to take a victory lap... so don't even. Zach played well last night... and he showed what he can do by playing within the structure of the offense. Now it's time to string some good games together.
i said yes but def can't give up 200 yards on the ground and ofc, we shouldn't have to play the refs as well.
