That's exactly why JD didn't sign a more successful Vet QB. Still bending over backwards trying to coddle Sack Wilson. I'm surprised he didn't give Hackenberg a call.
It's a "safe" signing for Douglas. He gets to tamp down some of the criticism about not having a better backup than Boyle. Once up to speed in a week or so Simien could come in to replace Zach if Wilson continues to play like he has been (likely), but doesn't interfere with the plan - as of now - for Rodgers to return next year. OTOH, it doesn't satisfy those who want a clear upgrade to become the starter , i.e. Cousins or someone of that caliber, but is anyone of that caliber - including Cousins available? At least he did something.
Did you guys watch this preseason of Semien? 55.7 rating this preseason in 3 games, 55% completion, 0 TDs, 2 picks. Cincy would not even sign him to PS after having him in camp. Is it possible JD actually found someone who is worse than Boyle?
He is very similar to Minshew and Brissett (players that many here wanted the moment Rodgers went down). We may actually get competent QB play for once this year. If he plays how Minshew is playing in Indy or how Brissett played last year in Cleveland, the Jets will be right in the middle of the WC race come December. The real question is how long are these guys going to wait to make the swap.

Preseason is preseason. Who cares. No one game plans and no one plays. The guy is infinitely better than Zach and has already showed he can throw more TDs than INTs. It's a massive upgraed.
Nope... never. JD and Bob will do ANYTHING to keep the noise about Zach to a minimum. Even if it means blaming the entire team when Zach fucks up by calling it a "team" loss.

I have to agree with this CC... makes sense. At this point, when Joe derides a Jet QB (no sure you listened but you should - in fact you all should) then you know things are in the dumpster. Unfortnately, as gratifying as his comments are to support what most of us have known and postulated about ZW, its a dam shame we were right. One more comment, this HC better get his ass out of his head and start to win games or he is toast.
Now anybody is an upgrade from Zach, but this is a bad, bad signing. Why not Wentz who wants to be here and might have some serious upside if he can regain some magic ????????
Because JD and Saleh would never agree to sign any QB that might play much much better than Sack. The plan still is to play Sack Wilson as often as they can no matter the outcome.

Siemian is a bad QB who was on his couch for a reason- and yet he is still an upgrade over Zach Wilson. He's also someone the Jets could have signed on Sep. 13 and they'd at least have had the option of pulling Wilson last Sunday, or of starting Siemian this week.
Everyone now is better than Zach. Zach is in the same state as he was last year when he simply couldn't play. The question is: is he better than Boyle? Trevor lost a back-up job to Browning, and could not even hold on to practice squad with them in spite of being there all offseason. What happened to Wentz? I know people are happy we signed someone, but this is pretty underwhelming with Wentz out there asking to be signed. We didn't even sign someone off someone's practice squad. We signed someone who couldn't make practice squad even though he tried.
