Another thing to consider is Saleh loved Brown last year for playing hurt. He might have been banging the table to bring him back. I definitely question this coaching staffs ability to evaluate their own talent.

This is a major issue. Why are they adopting schemes that they don't seem to have the (healthy) personnel for? I've always believed it's about execution, not scheme, regardless of what position group you're discussing. The Jets seem too focused on the latter and not enough on the former.

To be fair, Moses and Fant played well for the Jets before. They were the starting and put together a really nice season in 2021. So, I can't blame coaching based on facts. This is more on JD for not being able to keep one of them. I think what Saleh and JD were thinking about Brown (he sucked because he was injured and not just declined) was actually true about Fant and false about old Brown. JD just picked the wrong guy. Twice. Hence we don't have either of them.

It's true Mitchell started out better than expected, because expectation was very low with him being a day 3 pick from small school, but he did not have good performance last year. He was benched based on poor play for Cedrick, who also sucked, even before he got injured. So, Max was poor last year, but he was a late round rookie prospect from a small school, so there was optimism he can take a second year leap. Unfortunately he took a second year dive based on what I saw in preseason from already not a great first year.

Definitely. When you have Moses, Fant, Brown on you roster over two year span, then keep by far the worst guy of the three over two guys who are actually good right now, it is a coaching miss too. Though the buck stops with JD. He should have overruled Saleh recognizing that Brown's slowness last year was not because his shoulder hurt. If he recognized that Fant was the one who played poorly because of leg injury and not Brown due to shoulder, we could have had decent tackle now for 1/3d of the price, and possibly Rodgers still standing at QB.

I really would like to see what Zach can do now behind an average OlIne. That TD that he missed or the big gain missed to GW due ti no pass pro at all discussed in another thread, it just seems like Zach really improved. But with the line not functioning it is just hard to tell. We may have something here but there with Rodgers actually helping Zach, but without the line we can't really be sure. Even Rodgers paid the ultimate price with this crap of protection in front of him.

I am just hoping the entire season does not get away from us due to this. Honestly I am ready to bring in Billy Turner and see what he can do. Move Mekhi to LT, where he wants to be and where his knee is less pressured. Let's see if Billy Turnstile at RT can do better than Duane. Duane was so bad that Billy may actually be an upgrade believe it or not. Then maybe when Warren recovers he could get a shot. Or we sign La'el Collins (I would actually do it now even if I have to place him on IR for a little bit, but we would have him ready to go knowing the playbook at the bye) or Connor Galvin. I just think that something more has to be done than signing Cedrick to PS and continuing to start Brown who is hurt again and can't practice.

TD miss was because Zach stepped up into the pressure. Watch the video, if he sets and just rips off the GWilson break, DeMarcus never even gets close.

Zach scurries two steps then throws, that’s why Lawrence is there. protection was fine.

Zach still takes too long to release the ball.

Just watched, Micah would have had him, step up in the pocket was the right move. AVT got beat like a drum again. If he didn't, that a TD. Though I do agree that in general he does need to get rid of the ball faster. That 3d INT was particularly bad, because he had a rare good pass pro and a wide open guy. Not sure what happened there, that looked like old Zach. Overall though, I do see improvement.

Completely disagree on that one, AVT got beat bad, real bad, Zach gets creamed if he doesn’t step to avoid it. So now we expect to set up the play for the throw to occur in 2-3 second. Not too dissimilar to how AR got hurt. That one is completely on the OL.

With regards to the bold, I can only think of three possible reasons for their standing pat. One, the starting unit never got any time together in TC or preseason, so maybe they're confident that they will gel now. If so, I think that confidence is perhaps misguided and unrealistic, but have to hope that they're right if they don't make a move. Two, they are saving their money to trade for someone at the trade deadline who could be better than anyone who's out there. Three, they're saving their money to sign someone next year since they're gonna be fairly tight against the cap and have a number of FAs.

In terms of carrying 9 OL vs 10, I never thought that they'd be able to carry 10. The numbers were just too tight. I knew they were going to keep Bawden. If they hadn't, they could have kept 10th OL or another S or maybe even Tanzel Smart. In another two weeks Yeboah and Warren will be coming off of IR, and then they probably will have 10 OL unless they cut someone.

Actually, the story was that the Jets were going to take Jahmyr Gibbs, not McDonald. If Gibbs had been there, I'm not sure how Breece Hall would have responded to that, unless the Jets would have used Gibbs solely as a gadget player, but one shouldn't draft a gadget player in the top 15 picks of the draft, so I imagine that he would have been the #1 or #2 RB, and Hall may have become very unhappy. With our potentially losing both Lawson and Huff after this season, the McDonald pick could wind up being a very fortunate move for us that JD was already thinking about.

There were also rumors about Kincaid and Mayer, but I just can't place any credence in them, not with our already having 4 TEs who were at least pretty good, and one of them Ruckert was injured most of his rookie season last year, and hadn't had a chance to show what he could do.

The point can be made that it would be a waste of money and roster space for JD to bring in another LT if Saleh isn't going to play him. Saleh seems committed to Brown. JD, to a fault, works with and supports his HC rather than overruling him and telling him to bench a player.

Geez Gibbs? I guess that would have saved us the price of Cook's contract.

We were in a rotten position for immediate need tho--hope you're right about McD.

Duane Brown Is out against the Pats.

I have a feeling they will refuse to move Becton to LT at this point. Which I think will be a mistake.

It would definitely be a mistake imo. I think that or putting AVT at LT are the only sane moves they can make. Becton is a natural LT. He has been struggling a little bit adjusting to the right side. I sure wouldn't want Turner or Mitchell protecting Zach's blind side. AVT has been struggling this season and Becton has been our best OL. AVT may even struggle at RT, and he got hurt playing OT last season, and I wouldn't want to risk his getting injured again.

The only reason I'd want to keep Becton at RT is if Hackett has decided that in order to reduce the pass rush he's going to start rolling Zach out to his right behind Becton and AVT a lot. Even if the Jets only see Becton as their future RT and have ruled him out at LT, since he is their best OT at present, I think they have little choice but to move him to the left.

Even without the swap of first round picks with GB, we were in a rotten position to draft for immediate need. Even if we were, however, JD wouldn't have unless value matched need. I think the Jets would have had to have been drafting high enough where the Jets could have drafted one of whomever were the top 2 OTs on their draftboard.

It definitely would have saved us the price of Cook's contract, and would have given us another blazing fast and elusive RB. Can you imagine a RB stable of Hall, Gibbs and Abanikanda?

But the "job" of an NCAA football program is not to develop anything for the pros - it is to win games and collect revenue, not necessarily in that order.

again the question is who is he signing? it's easy to sit back and say he should have done this , without actually giving options. you cna't get blood from a stone. the NFL talent pool at o-line has been bad. about 20 teams feel the same way we do about their o-line.

I don't have an ego. I just call out stupidity and some people don't like it. sucks to be them though. I don't really care. If i say something stupid people are more then welcome to call it out. all the people whining about it are the ones with ego's because their fragile and can't take criticism.
