Brown has been bad, and he’s injured, and he hasn’t practiced all week… … but he’s only the left tackle so no biggie.
Billy Turner is pretty bad. I don’t feel good about him protecting the QBs blind side that is for sure.
I have a bad feeling about this… I don’t think there is any gamesmanship in play here, I think the man’s body is just telling him it’s time to stop playing. And we have no decent back-up. Billy Turner has looked bad too. I’d like to see them try a complete rejig of the line - is not like this group has gelled or got used to playing together. Becton to LT, Tucker to RT, bring in Tippmann at Center and kick McGovern to RG. We’re screwed as we are, so we might as well try something.
Imagine refusing to start tippman, and shuffle the line, but still starting zack in year 3 after throwing him in the fire day 1.
I think the only ones surprised are JD and Saleh. At least this forces the hand to try other starting O-line options. I'd like to see LT removed too, and Tippman getting reps as well. Develop a younger O-line for next year starting now.
The gamesmanship part would be saying it is irresponsible to move Becton to LT, but then moving him there. That would also be the most logical thing to do. Which probably means they won't do it, but I believe it is time to move Becton permanently to LT. Well, permanently assuming he does not get hurt, which is very much probable. But as long as he is healthy, leave Becton at LT. Duane is done. I don't understand why it is so hard to see. Start Billy Turnstile on the right side, let's see what he can do there. He sucked in training camp and last year, but actually was decent in preseason. Let's see what he looks like. Also, let's sign some more tackles to the team. Place Duane on IR and sign La'el. You can then place him in IR too if you need a roster spot since he might need a couple of weeks and use the spot for Connor Galvin. But Duane occupying non IR spot now is a travesty.
We better see a lot of two TEs with Rucker to protect the blind side. Something that should have been done last week. This game and game plan will tell a lot about our CS ability to work around our Achilles heal.
The reluctance to move Becton to left is completely bizarre in my way of thinking. The CS has completely miss read Brown readiness and capabilities at this point.
