Got this striper out of Gloucester today. Smoked a live mackerel. My nephew got one that was a little bigger.[IMG][IMG]

Yes. Chartered a boat with my father in-law, brother in-law and his son. Went out of the same marina where the guys from Wicked Tuna keep their boats.

Always good fishing up there. I try to get up that way every couple of years or so. Fished Jeffrey's Ledge last trip. Looking forward to my Block Island trip in November. Get to fish Montauk too.. Next time, check out the Causeway Restaurant. Just across the road from the marina and outstanding seafood.

Next year we are going to do a night trip out of Block Island. Fishing live eels there at night is the best way to get a 50 pound striped bass.

The Capt recommended that restaurant. We were on a tight schedule so we didn't eat there. I wanted to though.

Can you recommend someone for a Block Island trip. Wasn't sure if you knew of someone. Thanks!

You sailing from CT.? Our boat comes up from Jersey. I think there's headboats out of Rhode Island. Charters you should have no trouble finding online.

I would go out of Rhode Island. There's plenty of charters on the Internet. Determining which boats are good is the issue.

I would say just do a search on their names on FB follow their reports. Sometimes it just comes down to luck or a hunch. Most of them post pics and give details about their trips and of course, sometimes they stretch the truth a little bit.. Instead of a charter, you might want to consider a headboat depending on your target and the season.

This would be a trip to target trophy size striped bass. I think a private charter would be my best bet.

Track them on Facebook. there's a group called "Ultimate Bottom Fishing" that has a pretty wide membership. A lot of charter boats advertise there...

In the planning stages of my '24 bucket list fishing trip to the Sunshine State. Thinking a "Pully Ridge" or the "Dry Tortugas" 3 day trips. Will be on the American Patriot out of San Marcos Is. which is a bit south of Tampa. Not sure if flying into Ft. Lauderdale and driving I-75 across to San Marcos is better than flying into Tampa and driving down. I'll be retired so I can get busy on my bucket list now that I have the time. Will ship my gear down via FedEx as its more dependable than the gorillas that handle baggage for the airlines.
