I was just talking to a buddy who is an Atlanta fan and he feels that in the long run getting Abe will still be a good deal for the Falcons. I told him that he got a typical ABE year and that it probably won't get any better for them. Then I remembered that there were people that thought that we got the short end of that deal. So I am wondering what everyone thinks now.
Great trade for us. It might eventually be a good trade for both teams, but so far it is totally one sided.
The final straw for me was the playoff game in which Herm supposedly and reportedly asked him to at least "give it a try." The f@cker flat-out refused. Not one play... couldn't even give it a go for one down. That was the final straw. He later claimed he had his future contracts to worry about. He was a worthless bastard to me after that. Atlanta got hosed so bad I actually feel pretty guilty about it. Then again, I'll get over it.
We get a great rookie Center, they get an effective pass rusher that played what, 4-5 games all yr? Jets got a much better deal.
Great deal for us and if Abe is healthy at the right time with the right team he is the kind of game changer who could make plays that win you a SB. It may work out for Atlanta or someone else down the road.
Atlanta got played. I'll take a center who will give us 10-15 years of dominance at the position over a malcontent like Abe anyday.
I dont see why Atlanta got hosed? Yeah he only played 4-5 games, but beside everyone on this board hating him, he is a dominant pass rusher which is far more important then a pro bowl center. Plus its only one year.
fair deal. Abe is a good player, and who's to say that the Falcons could've gotten someone of fair value (to their team) at that slot. The JETS were in need of more personel (esp, linemen) so it worked out quite well for the JETS .
When evaluating who got hosed, you can't use the player we actually picked to evaluate it. If we picked a bust, my opinion would be the same... We got the best of it, but it was close to equal.
Same here. Imagine if he had been on the field that day how much more pressure there would have been on Rothlisberger. We should have won it without him, just one more rushed pass could have sent us to the championship game.
No, but when you draft, you are taking a risk on the unknown nfl worthyness of a player, whereas abe is already an established, proven (mostly) veteran. It's a different situation. Not to mention the money we saved.

True, but let's say a 22 yr old with Abraham's characteristics comes in.. he goes 13th, like he did in 2000 right? Therefore, Atlanta didn't do terribly either.
Atlanta didnt get hoised they could still end up on the better side of the deal, because abraham can impact a game way more than Nick ever can.He is a dominant pass-rusher when he on the fiield and id take him back in a second. In my opinion if he were in a 3-4 he would be similar to what Merriman is in san diego , probably even better.
Ok what if he did play, and he got hurt then all of u guys and the media would have been on herms ass all off-season trying to risk a players future when he hasnt practiced all week. Your body is all u have in the nfl its a business once u get hurt and u are not useful anymore they throw u away.Abe was a franchise player and had no guranteed contract why risk it, u gotta think about your future and your family.
Exactly, everyone would have been all over Herm if he reinjured himself. And there are not too many players in the NFL that will risk losing millions of dollars by causing more damage to an injury.
