There have not been any NFL record breaking contracts for DTs this year. I believe Q broke a team record but Donald is still the highest paid DT in the league.
Very good news! Excellent two way player, disruptive, perfect scheme fit, young, takes pressure/blockers off other DLs. Good move all around. I was starting to sweat on this, but finally we have re-signed someone!!
This was a pleasant surprise today! I was expecting this to carry on into next year. Glad that got it done. Now they can focus on getting Rodgers contract to be a bit more friendly and wrapping Becton in bubble wrap so he doesn't get hurt before the season begins.
Sorry, that's right. I forgot how untouchable Donald is in the contract arena. So this offseason we've got 25 year old Dexter Lawrence getting 4/$90M ($59M guaranteed), 26 year old Daron Payne getting 4/$90M ($60M guaranteed), 25 year old Jefferey Simmons getting 4/$94M ($66M guaranteed, just $1M shy of Donald's record), and 25 year old Quinnen Williams getting 4/$96M ($66M guaranteed). It'll be interesting to follow how all four of these highly similar deals play out over time.
I never think twice about giving a good player a contract extension unless it’s a DT. For some reason, they seem like they’re the position that gives up the most after a contract. Bills gave Oliver a contract this off-season, while not large, I still get leery with DT’s. We got burned with Marcel Dareus back in the day and many others.
Great to see this finally getting sorted out before Training Camp - can you imagine what Hard Knocks would have made of it if he was still unsigned.
I don't expect you to believe me, but I said that in my house THEN. That game helped to get us where we are now. I believe that. You left out Breece Hall being chased by the entire GB defense to no avail ; )
Q better than everyone of those guys. Chris Jones is probably a tad better, but if you compare their stats and numbers last year Williams was better.
He could have been voted All- Slow too last year. We haven't played this year yet. He's not worth $21M.
Glad this is done…Q is exactly the kind of player you do this with…hometown draft pick, young, productive, ascending, good on and off the field…seriously…if you don’t pay this kind of player then who DO you pay? Love that it got done…sends the right message…
Yupper! I also said that before....when Rodgers was on the sidelines watching, Garrett Wilson amazed him, and the best athlete for both sides was Breece. I think Aaron knew there and then, I wanna be on THIS team. Joe Douglas also helped schedule joint practices in GB the last 2 seasons. I always wondered if JoeD, with Aaron crying about retiring or leaving GB, did those joint practices to get a better look at Aaron, and for Aaron to get a great look at the Jets players and their coaching staff. This might have been a master plan in Joe's head for 2 years, including the year we drafted ZW in that Covid, zero pre-draft contact. Maybe he saw AR as a distant backup plan! Too much credit?
The good thing about this contract is Q played well in what wasn't necessarily a contract year. So that makes him less likely to be Wilkerson 2.0.
Q has slowed down but let's not pretend he's done. He's was the second most important player on defense last year.
