Good post. It’s done very well, and is team friendly, so I don’t buy it being a distraction either. It obviously didn’t hurt us last time. I think the players hustle more when cameras are on also, as no one wants to be caught dogging it. An organization can leverage this to their advantage in a number of ways. I guess some of it comes down to personalities of the FO and coaches involved tho. Rex was perfect for the show, as he’s extroverted, loves hamming for the camera, is an open book, and is generally charismatic and entertaining. Was a great season for the show. I guess more introverted or private closed book personalities might be less comfortable with the cameras. Could you imagine Gase?
The concern is not so much about coaches being distracted but young guys who may end up playing to the cameras rather than being 100% on task to get better at doing their jobs. Then there's that thing about hours of film available to opponents that are not available regarding the other 31 teams.
There are high (perhaps too high) expectations for the NY Jets this season. Having the Hard Knocks crew running around camp is nothing compared to that pressure. Unlike 2009... we're not sneaking up on anybody this year.
HBO Films is from NY, NFL Offices are in NY, no one needs hotels. They'll film all day and sleep in their beds with their nagging wives. if it was the Redskin-Commanders, it wont be, they would need hotels
it is actually really simple. if the Jets dont want to do it then make the friggin playoffs so they cant force you to do it. 13 years of losing, we are lucky they still consider the Jets interesting
Somehow I don't believe that all the production people who may be involved are based in New York, even if their employers are. Nagging wives are universal.
The production people are based in Philly/South Jersey. Even so, they have the option to live in housing offered by NFL Films near the training camp site. edit: I take it back. They are offered housing… but have to pay for it out of their own pocket. That’s how it was as recent as 2019 at least.
Well... not a big deal... but I thought the original title pointed out the concern some had about appearing on the show. Now that we've been picked... it could be something like this- Hard Luck? (Jets Selected for Hard Knocks)
I changed it. You owed me a dinner. Now you owe me 2 dinners. Are you coming to East Coast for a game this year?
I’m not buying into it. The whole thing is a commercial sell air space cluster fuck to line the NFL pockets even more. The criteria is defacto biased towards bottom of the barrel teams, mostly with enough dysfunction as to make them interesting, while the best teams get automatically excluded. So the ones with more than enough to fix, those that don’t need the extra spot light and distraction get screwed. NFL jammed it down the Jets throat because AR is unpredictable and that is what they want. They don’t give two fucks as to what the downside might be. It is another way to entertain the fans all year long while the better teams go about their business like professionals and get ready with another winning season without all the drama. Time to get into the play offs and screw the show in the future. Let that cheater in NE do it for a change.
I haven't watched Hard Knocks in a long while Los but with Jets, I will watch ever episode. How about you?
I'm with you. I've never watched it and never wanted to watch it. I especially wasn't going to watch it when Rex was the HC. I couldn't stand that pompous buffoon.
